A Rainy Day at Six Flags New England - Agawam, MA 

I use to buy my season pass at Great Escape because the season pass was only $59. And got you into all the parks. It was a really good deal before Covid.

This is my original hometown park. I use to go all the time when I was young and it was called Riverside Park. Was glad Six Flags purchased it and made a lot of great changes. It’s a fun park but they need to extend it and put more rides.

Looks like fun, but Six Flags really needs to get a few dark rides into this park.

Hybrid coaster is actually the correct term for either a wooden coaster with steel supports or, as in this case, a steel coaster with wooden supports. I believe the one in this video is an RMC (Rocky Mountain Construction), a company mostly known for converting old wooden coasters that are at the end of their life to steel hybrid coasters.

I grew up in Enfield CT, just a short 15 minute drive away on the other side of the Connecticut River. As such, I've been visiting Six Flags New England since the early 1970s, when it was Riverside Park. That carousel and the roller-coaster, The Thunderbolt predate me, and so I've been seeing them for more than 50 years.

Jacob, come to The Big E in West Springfield, MA. It's THE State Fair shared by all the New England states, most of which don't have their own. It runs from September 15 to October 1.

I remember going there when it was still Riverside Park. When my dad was young, he used to work on an auto racing team that regularly raced on the tiny track that used to be in the park. Unfortunately, the race track is no longer there. I believe the Superman ride was built in its place.

I'm so glad to see the Houdini ride is still there. That was my favorite attraction from back when the park was still Riverside.

When I was a teenager and twenty-something, back in the 80's and early 90's, me and my friends would go to this place every week during the summer. It's only a 45 minute drive from where I live. I live about fifteen minutes from Lake Compounce in Ct. This park was called Riverside Park back then and it was different. It was long before Six Flags swooped in and scooped it up. The place is still "Riverside Park" in my head and I still remember my way around it and where all the rides were. The park looks completely alien to me right now, and it's lost quite a bit of the charm it had when it was Riverside Park. There's very little I recognize. The Thunderbolt is still there, but a lot of the rides we used to enjoy are gone. One of our favorite rides was on the roof of the building right next to the entrance to the Thunderbolt entrance. It was a ride called "The Rotor". You would go into this cylindrical room, and you would all stand against the wall. the room would spin and you would stick to the wall, and then the floor would drop out from under you leaving you about 8 feet up above it stuck to the wall.

In my area , but this 6 Flags will always be Riverside to me .

I was shocked when you mentioned that they charge for parking. When that place was Riverside Park, there was no charge for parking at all. You only had to pay the entrance fee. And Six Flags charging what you said, $40 for parking? That's just insane. When I was a teenager, we used to go to that park every week during the summer. We would NEVER have been able to afford $40 parking plus whatever entrance fee they would charge on top of it.

The figures on the carousel were carved by Marcus Illions (not pronounced or spelled like the state of Illinois). Illions carved the figures but the W.F. Mangels company made the machine. They both had work shops at Coney Island and collaborated on many carousels. Mangels designed and patented the overhead crank system that makes the horses gallop; he also designed and manufactured the whip ride.

Oh so that is what happened to Riverside!!! We went there as s kid when I lived in CT in the 80s.

There were more than one Brown Derby in the Hollywood area--it was a chain. And one of the buildings still exists, but, not surprisingly, repurposed and renovated beyond recognition.

Call it what you will. It will always be Riverside, to us oldies. We remember the good old days. The racetrack - watching future NASCAR drivers.

Whow, Agawam. Used to drive from NJ to Agawam to visit my aunt and uncle and also went to this park before it was Six Flags. Really enjoyed this video.

For Six Flags Great Adventure, my computer class went there in 10th grade (06/07), but, I didn't go. I didn't know my classmates that well and I was afraid they would drag me onto a ride that I don't like. Aww, those stairs are so cute.

Local here. Thanks for showing this Jacob. Riverside Park was really ahead of it's time building the mind eraser which six flags kept (riddlers revenge). Six flags kept a lot of the themes around the park. When they built superman in 2001 it was the place to be. Then the batman ride. After that it really slowed, probably money issues.

The Houdini ride scared the LIFE out of me when I was like 12 lmao, neat concept for a ride. was here in '04 when the big new england blackout happened, was like 4 loads out from loading on the superman lmao.

Hybrid roller coaster are usually made by RMC rocky mountain construction. Great coaster company that's good at doing that, Transform old wooden coasters turn them into amazing Hybrid coasters

hoping to go again this season. my sis and nephew and i were gonna try to go yesterday but on Sunday my sis had issue with car so had to go be fixed. it's about an hour drive to this location. went in july and that was our first time back since 2016

If you are still in MA, there are 2 carousels in Boston proper. I think one of them is fully hand carved. You know if you find a carousel with a camel, you gotta ride it.

I spent a little longer with Jacob and my fellow CB fans today. Jacob, I'm always glad you're here but today and tomorrow are now/are going to be harsh. I have a baby parakeet who was bleeding from a wound on her back yesterday. Upon investigation, I found a big yellow tumor showing through her skin on her back. I'm not looking forward to what I'm going to have to ask the vet to do tomorrow. So spending extra time with you was a good form of escapism for a little while. I'm sitting here laughing and sniffling by turns. But I'm glad your vlogs are here. You have no idea how much they help people sometimes.

Years ago I used my Six Flags pass to get in free at the Madrid Spain theme park location.

They should do a walk-through dark ride called Wayne Manor and have it where the villains have taken it over you could have real people has jump scares .

Heee, I do love that old carousel. End up taking selfies with and riding the dear often enough on visits. And like you... yeah, I'm pretty sure both deer have real antlers. Too much detail compared to the rest of the carving, and not that difficult to obtain.

Demonia or Tasmanian She-Devil is her name. She's Taz's wife and appears when he does, but she's the dominant and is seen hitting him a few times with her rolling pin. She appeared in "Devil May Hare" then "Bedeviled Rabbit". She also appears briefly in "In the Looney Tunes Back in Action" disguised as Mr Smith.

You mentioned summer of Carousels you want to see an old one come to westerly ri they have a gorgeous old one and in providence at the zoo is another great old carousel

Jacob, if you're still in New England, you need to go to the carousel at Slater Park in Pawtucket, RI and the carousel in Riverside, RI. There's one in Fall River, MA you should visit, if it's open

You could hit the Indiana State fair first then go straight to Maryland after that then hit the fairs in South Carolina as well as the brand new LPC kitchen restaurant and new parts of the Nexton development area here in Summerville sc
