I remember when SEPTA ran to Parkesburg. I rode on a fan trip with Reading MU cars to Parkesburg on a hot summer day with all of the windows open. The sound of the gears and traction motors at speed was earsplitting and fantastic. We pulled into Parkesburg and shouted down to the people standing on the platform with a straight face that we were lost and asked for directions to Reading Terminal in Philadelphia. They were actually giving us directions...lol.... Everybody had a good laugh. I rode on electric Metroliner cars from Harrisburg to Philly when the cars were new. It was night time and the arcing pantographs were lighting up the countryside. The passengers on the car I was in thought a thunderstorm was coming up. I explained to them that it was an electric train and that the pantographs were bouncing on the overhead catenary and putting on a light show. Funny the things we remember from decades ago.
The Keystone corridor is getting all of the wooden ties from Lancaster and Harrisburg replaced with Concrete ties which will hopefully lead to smoother and faster rides
@1:22:20 one of the first catenary power switching stations with switching inside and bus bars on pin insulators on its roof. I just read about these yesterday! Afterward they went to outdoor lattice towers and transformers. That is the first time I've seen one thanks to your video.
there really is nothing better than a good rain storm on an amtrak i rode 58 in a severe storm and it was super cool seeing the world take shelter from the rain as we rolled on by
The old P&W trolley Strafford branch used to connect to the station right there in Strafford up until '56, when it was abandoned. My dad lived in Devon at the time and used to take it down to 69th Street and catch the elevated from there into the city. All that's left of that ROW now is a hiking/bike trail from Strafford down to Villanova Junction. It's become pretty popular with the locals.
No, I felt fine. If I didn’t I wouldn’t have been doing that believe me there wasn’t any ventilation in that compartment so that was my main discomfort.
@30:18 so "Title text here" is before lancaster? Thought is was closer to Philly? I keep waiting for the demon on the wing from twilight zone to suddenly appear in the window behind the raindrops.
@@3985uprr it's funny you upload this on June 5th, as you had just missed me the day before (June 4th) when I rode on the 42-Pennsylvanian from Johnstown to Philadelphia, which was a rather relaxing ride
