Renee I finally read The House of Mirth and I loved it so much I immediately read Wharton's novella Summer afterward and also really enjoyed that too. Very likely a new favorite author, I'm so happy! You gave me the push to prioritize it so thank you!

I loved Anne Enright’s The Gathering though it is a sad and quite an emotional read. You might call it a family saga but in a darker, twisted way. insightful and quite experimental. An attempt at mapping the history of a very complicated family. Gorgeous writing!

I've heard mixed reviews about 'The Wren, The Wren' most reviews on Booktube, most seem to like her other novels better. I think this is the most positive review I've watched. I love when I find an author I gel with, the latest Amor Towles book arrived through the post last week and I'm loving it. He's a perfect fit for me.

I loved The Wren, The Wren and am glad you connected to it. I haven't read any other Enright, either. I need more of her. Yay for modulating your videos to a time schedule that makes sense. That's what I do and it takes the pressure off in terms of planning and filming. Enjoy your summer reading.

It is funny how worlds collide. Jane Harrison is familiar to me from my student days. She was a classicist/anthropologist and wrote a book called Themis, a study of ancient Greek religion, that was a part of our reading alongside Frazer's Golden Bough.

I've never read Enright but might try The Wren, The Wren although I've heard some people say it's not her best. She won the Booker in 2007 for The Gathering. This one is currently on the Women's Prize shortlist. I think it's eligible for this year's Booker Prize too, the longlist is annouced in the summer :)

A writer could do worse than have Virginia Woolf and Mary Beard on their blurb! Picking out future releases is a lesser explored practice here on booktube, thanks for changing the game Rene! 🤣

Right? It’s so cool! And the book is just lovely. I’d love to see you do some new release picks if you see any you’re interested in, fiction or non fiction. I’m looking at some non fiction which I tend to stumble on rather than be aware of!
