Before the actual sound of thunder, you could hear this sort of static pop. I can tell you that that's what we call "positive/upward streamers" in meteorology. There are multiple in an area on the ground when the lightning is about to strike, but only one connects with the streamer, resulting in the actual strike. So basically, if the lightning channel had connected to the one you heard, the lightning strike could've been even closer with some bad luck!
I played it back on VLC and slowest of speed and I can almost see the (not sure what it called) “trailer” before the discharge…I’m trying to get a snapshot of it
Someday in around of April (if i remember correctly), we had a thunderstorm in my area during late morning, and then bam, we heard the same "clap/pop" sound in the video. The lightning was really loud, so i'm glad I covered my ears lol
I randomly decided to watch this and I HEARD THAT NOISE BEFORE A LIGHTNING STRIKE TOO! I have no idea how close it was to me, but that was the most vicious and terrifying storm of my life. At the time it seemed like our house was almost hit by lightning, and I guess this proves it
I’m positive I put two marks down on Google maps and the distance from where I was to the base of the building is 98 yards now granted it did hit the, I guess above the 10th or 12th floor of the building on the roof. I’m not going to math that lol 😂
Nah. A third of a second of delay. 100 yards is a very good estimate. I was actually listening for the ~1/3rd of a second delay because I wanted to be judgmental, but walked away impressed by the accuracy.
I, too, experienced a lightning struck at close range. There was a little electronic sound that sounds familiar to the games. The sound came like a second or so.
That happened to me in Houston when I was a kid lightning bolt stroke right outside of our condo and it sounded like when you unplugged an old tube TV while it was on. Weird sound.
in my experience about really close lightning, that short “pop” sound before the actual lightning sound is from your electronic releasing a short static electricity caused by the lightning, and one of the example is your phone releasing its static electricity to your hands and actually shocks you (happens to me), so don’t hold your phone or any electric devices when there’s a really close lightning around you
Yep, been there myself. So close I could feel the heat from the bolt. My close strike was back in 2012. Bolt hit somewhere close by my apartment, I was on the door step filming and next thing I know there is a flash, a loud crack, and I'm running inside about to piss my pants from laughing so hard. 😅 fun night. 🤣
Nope sorry if the metal fence Wasn’t blocking my apartment from the bank building it is 100 yards to the outside of the building. The building is 12 stories so not sure you can figure that into the calculations or not
It looks like the lightning hit the tall building, which is more like 600 ft away. However, the thunder, being instantaneous, says otherwise. Is there any reason?
Did you record this for ASMR sleep sounds? I recognize this exact sound of rain and thunder. I use to have really bad anxiety, I still do. I turned a particular rain video on and slept in the fetal position every night.
I actually did and I could feel the hairs on my head my arms going stiff. The funny thing about it is I thought I had the door cracked when I went to open the door I actually hit my head but I cut it off before then lol
@@NRH_Wx This feels like a good opportunity to ask for some details. It's been often said that one can feel the buildup of static electricity before lightning strikes nearby, but this is not generally elaborated, i.e. by how much time. Would you say you felt this effect before the strike? If so, do you think you could approximate the time interval?
@@NRH_Wx I assumed it was up north somewhere when I saw the bare trees. I'm in the northern part of the country so we don't generally see thunderstorms in February.
@@patcola7335 we unfortunately get bad storms all year. In Texas we just wait 15 minutes for the weather to change. Thursday and Friday we had snow/ice and today it got up to 62F
@@NRH_Wx That’s how it is where I live. When I watch the radar on an approaching severe storm, they always seem to want to avoid my city and go around it as if it were an obstacle in its path. I really don’t understand it.
@@NRH_Wx nice lightning strike! Greetings from Texas! 👋 😎✌️there’s currently a storm moving in my area, I have heard thunder but have not yet seen lightning. Winds have been picking up a bit.
