Dear Pastor Bob: Should a believer make a promise to stop sinning? For example, I have a habitual sin of lying and being untruthful. I have struggled with this my entire life. It was much worse before I was a Christian, but some of this has carried over into my life after being saved. I am not proud of it. I have been married for almost four years and my wife notices when I lie about stuff. Some of it was intentional, and other times I was unaware of it. Since I have been doing it for so long, it’s almost second nature for me. I don’t lie to hurt my wife, I just do it because it is engrained in me, it seems. My wife asked me to promise her that I would never lie again. Is it right of my wife to make such a request? I still struggle with other sins, but not as much as this one. I love my wife and I know she means well and wants me to live a Holy life. What advice might you have for me?

This summer, I realized how important it is not to make a promise. God takes promises very seriously! Let your nays be nays and your yays be yays. You need to be a person of your words. Christians who loves God enough to do the best you can at not sinning. When someone lies, it's because they don't want to own up to the action. Or to disappoint someone. You have to try to do what is right in actions and when standing up to who you want to lie to. It's hard at times. I remember my husband lying to me, and I lied to him. Because we knew the other would not be happy with our actions. As for myself, I would rather hear honesty so that I could of trusted my husband more. Then he wondered why I couldn't trust him. Because, I knew he was capable of lying when he found it necessary. I am sure it was the same for him.

Dear Pastor Bob, I have a question concerning something my wife and I were talking about. (This is not about you or your ministry) I love to watch as you promote your products. There are teachers who sell merchandise to support themselves. Some sell books. Others sell shirts. I could go on and on. My point is that there is nothing wrong with it. She has a problem with a RU-vid channel that I like. She doesn’t believe he should sells stuff. Many of the channels we watch are monetized and also sell goods. I have absolutely no problem with this but she does only if she doesn’t like the teacher. What is the best way to look at this?
