I know you won't say it for obvious reasons regarding so-called Hebrew Root "teachers" like this, but I will...the methodology he's using is a prime example of cult "gaslighting."

26:20 it's a presupposition based on the fact that it was never done away with in the first place. It was never replaced by Messiah. It was never amended by Messiah. It's based on the assumption that God, who is unchanging, still has one standard of righteousness for Israel and Gentiles. Both for the Jew and the stranger who dwells among them.

Torah does not mean to "hit the mark". It means "teaching, instruction". One translation for sin in the Hebrew means "to miss the mark".

24:15 Mr. Solberg, 1 John 3:4 was written AFTER Messiah's death and resurrection. So, sin IS (present tense) transgression against the Law. Not just under the "Mosaic covenant."

John 7:19 Moses gave you the law, but none of you obeys it! In fact, you are trying to kill me.”

51:39 - Do you notice that Galatians 3:11 is a quote? What's he quoting? Habakkuk 2:4 says, "“Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but the righteous shall live by his faith." The Hebrew word for "faith" is "emuna." More accurately translated as "faithfulness," or "steadfastness." Whenever one has faith in Scripture, that faith causes them to act. Check out Hebrews 11.

I really appreciate and respect and amount of work that went into this video…but :):):) It’s interesting that at one point you made the comment that Steve was approaching his interpretations through “Torah first” and that it taints his ability to divide the word rightly - but I think you did something similar at the end of your video - you say that Torah does not apply because Yeshua never mentions it - but I think that’s for two reasons; 1. It’s implied in the culture and time He’s living in that He should not have to SAY that Torah still applies, so that’s not really a good argument and is ALSO dangerous, and 2. If none of it applied, then why were Yeshua and the disciples still doing things that were related to Torah? I think you and Steve should actually talk live - would probably clear up a lot of confusion and misunderstanding of “intent” in both of your comments. REALLY love the conversation and think it’s important!

For about the last year now i have been following Hebrew Roots teachers. They sounded good but something just didn't fit. Thank you so much for your teaching! Now I see why something didn't fit! I think some of their teaching is good, at the heart of it, it is wrong! again thank you so much!

In Genesis God told Adam and Eve how they sinned. He said you disobeyed my voice saying do not eat of this tree. And you are absolutely right it had nothing to do with the Torah itself it was disobeying the very voice of God telling them not to do something and they went and did it anyway.

I tried to post a comment from the position of someone who follows teachings from people such as Steve, Sean Griffin (Kingdom in Context), Michael OHMAN (Olive Branch Fellowship), and Adam Fink (Parable of the Vineyard) and it appears to me that only preconceived bias is allowed in the comments so I'm going to make this very simple. How about actually listening to and understanding the positions of these brothers before going off and making "exposing of false doctrine" videos of people when you don't even fully understand their position. Hebrew Roots Movement is actually a label, a term that certain groups label THEMSELVES as. HRM teaches something VERY DIFFERENT from what these brothers (Steve, Sean, Michael, Adam) are teaching. I think going forward it would be wise of you to make a distinction between those who label themselves as a PART OF that movement and those who don't. THESE BROTHERS DO NOT AGREE WITH THE HEBREW ROOTS MOVEMENT. They're simply people with scriptures looking for other people to study scriptures with. They do NOT teach Talmud, Kabalah, or traditions of MEN, they teach SCRIPTURE. THAT'S IT. As I'm sure you've noticed, some of conclusions they have come to are very different from normal teachings. Praise Yah for that! Praise Yah for people who just want to read the Bible and understand it for what is ACTUALLY SAYING! It has greatly effected believers ALL OVER THE WORLD who have a true heart for Yah and WANT to honor him AS MESSIAH TAUGHT US TO. What a blessing! The question isn't "do we HAVE to keep the Torah?" 119 Ministries have to make up their mind, which covenant they want to be a part of. It seems like they have chosen the covenant through Moses, the one that points to Jesus. You can't have both. You are either all in. Or you are all out.

Do you happen to know if the Torah adherents have any explanation of Galatians 4 talking about Hagar and the covenant of the flesh? I haven’t found anything yet. It literally explains Hagar was a symbol of the covenant on Mount Sinai and how we are not her children but children of Sarah (the free woman). He calls it a covenant of bondage and how they are children of the flesh.

1:03:35 - Again, a command does not need to be reiterated in order to still be valid. The command against beastiality is never reiterated in the NT, but I'm pretty sure Christians would agree that's still binding.

The New Testament wasn't written in a vacuum. When the term "New Covenant" was used by people like Messiah and the writer of Hebrews in the NT, it was with the context of passages like Jeremiah 31.

Given the gross misrepresentations and other logical fallacies and outright fabrications on the part of Steve, I find it VERY hard to believe that he perpetrated all those falsehoods and character assassinations accidentally or unknowingly. Those who are in a position of weakness, and KNOW they are, most generally resort to the kinds of tactics in his response. This is textbook fallacies and ad hominem. This video would serve as a great teaching tool for Fallacies 101 and Ad Hominem 101. How could ANYONE with half intelligence NOT know that he was misrepresenting another's words and views? If the deceived knew they were deceived, then they would not be deceived....right?

The irony I see with a lot of people in the HRM is that they will claim Christians need to fulfill the Old Covenant to truly please God, when Hebrews 8:13 explicitly states that the Old Covenant has become obsolete (which means no longer in use) and is about to disappear. This literally happened at the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D. and since that time absolutely no one is capable of obeying the Law of Moses. And simply because one cannot obey one part of the Law of Moses because the Temple is gone does not nullify the requirement. Ultimately, the Temple was destroyed because of Israel's sin, and that does not invalidate any OT Law. So no one who claims to be HR actually fulfills the law. The Law has become obsolete because the New Covenant organically grows out of the Abrahamic Covenant, not the Mosaic one (which was simply added as an appendage to the Abrahamic Covenant), and is thus premised upon a more certain promise. Interestingly, God specifically said the New Covenant would not be like the Mosaic Covenant (Hebrews 8:9/Jeremiah 31:32). It is different because it is built not by obeying the Mosaic Covenant, but by having faith in Christ. That faith in Christ leads one to obey the command of Christ, namely, to obey the law of love. Hebrews 8 explains how the laws of the Torah were types and shadows that find their fulfillment in Christ. Thus, in Christ those laws are fulfilled by all who are in Him by faith. One needs not to follow dietary food laws, or levitical laws, or feasts and sabbaths. They all find their fulfillment in Christ and all who are in Christ fulfill them by default.

I'm shocked that Steve is so far off on what the TRUE Gospel is. The Old Covenant has been trumped by the New Covenant. "For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God." (Galatians 2:19, KJV)

The Torah observant crowd, def 119 Ministries will tell you that its impossible to know how to love God without the Torah instructions. They completely ignore the role of the Holy Spirit. Which is also obvious in their wearing of tzit tzit (tassels).

Im actually astounded how these HRM people align with SDA teachings. Absolutely flabergasted. They say Keeping torah (sabbath commands exc) keeps your salvation, in other words up until you are saved you have forgiveness but once you are saved you need to keep within the yellow lines otherwise you are rebellious and we know what god did with the rebellious at mt sinai....

I have a question that I would love for you to cover in a video. In Romans 3:29-30 it says “who will justify the circumcised BY faith and the uncircumcised THROUGH faith.” Why are two different words used here? Why can’t it just say “Through” and “through”?? Instead Paul uses two different greek words, so I am trying to understand the purpose of that and what he means by each phrase more specifically (I.E. “by faith” and “through faith.”) Would love your help. The actual problem with their interpretation of sin and John 3, is that the word "Law" nomos, is not in the text, as you said. Neither is transgression. NIV is not a literal translation and the KJV they use, also flawed. They can't answer questions like "Which mosaic command did Adam break?"

Solberg when you invent that Jesus created new laws which according to your understanding in the New Testament you believe we have "The laws of Jesus". Yet never did Jesus ever say Christians have new and different laws then what God gave Moses to write down! You error when you add different laws for different groups! Not sure your ready to be corrected, even though you say you are!

Truly, the law given through Moses in Old Testament Judaism (Matthew 5:43; Leviticus 19:18; Deuteronomy 23:6) is not the law of Christ that came by the Lord Jesus in New Testament Christianity (Matthew 5:44; John 13:34; John 15:12), based on Hebrews 7:11-12, Hebrews 8:7-9 (Jeremiah 31:31-32), and Luke 5:36-39. Hope you guys understand each other more but 1 problem is you left out the last verse on Roman chapter 3 and stop at verse 30 cause if we read on he says we uphold the law then goes on next chapter about Abraham. @mr. Solberg. Hi! I am a new Christian and being so there are a lot of things that I still need more understanding. When it comes to salvation, say, yes I believe in Jesus Christ and all of His teaching, however, I do not trust myself because I am only a human being and is still bound to commit sins such as sexualy immorality for instance. I know it's a sin and yet I continue doing so and then repeatedly ask for forgiveness from God and yet I continue doing it still... Will I still be saved? And if, yes, how will be saved still?

We do good works because, for believers, the Holy Spirit is in us and helps us to love God and love others so we want to good works. Not to keep or get salvation but because we are saved.

This is light and dark, truth and lies debating. The reason Steve was destroyed in his arguments is because truth is greater than lies. Did Christ redeem you from the curse of the law that Paul is referring to in Galatians 3?

If the gentiles have been grafted into Israel how can you say you don't have to obey Torah? Have you created your own religion apart from Torah? Sounds like replacement theology. For what text/doctrine did the Messiah, apostles, and the first church follow since there was no new testament? All they had was the Torah, law, and the prophets. What else is there after that? Please explain. If the law was done away with how are we supposed to love him? If we love him we are to keep his commandments. True or no?The words of Yahushua are true.

Jesus kept the Torah as did Paul , that means they kept or obeyed commandments that applied to them, Many commands are only for specific people like women, farmers, lepers etc , This claim we must keep every command comes from man not Scripture

Although sabbath and food laws aren’t what saves us, the Torah is a guide of sin, and a light pointing us to Jesus. So if God said to keep the sabbath day holy and that eating non kosher is sinful, although following the law dosnt save us, shouldn’t we still do it for the sake of goodness? Just like keeping a monogamous marriage dosnt save us, but it’s still sinful to commit adultery, even though it’s not a salvation issue. Can we say that sin is defined as breaking the instructional precepts that came out of God’s mouth. For Adam and Eve wouldn’t it be eating the fruit he told them not to eat? And so if there is no transgression of breaking instructions, there would be no sin right?

Mr. Solberg, thank you so much for taking on the Hebrew Roots teachers that clearly teach a different Gospel, but are very affective in confusing and shaking the average Christian. Plz help me understand if i'm on the right track (plz keep reading). Because the NT apostles explicitly refute and condemn these teachings, I personally believe these are intentional deceivers (wolves). Here's a simplified way i understand the Bible on this subject: Bible offers two mutually exclusive covenants, we can choose either, but we have to execute the terms of whichever we choose. so, if one chooses the Old Covenant then those terms have to be fulfilled without fail (since there's no possibility for sin sacrifice), but the terms of the New Covenant are moot, and vice versa. The terms of OC are in the 1st five books (Mosaic Law) and the Terms of the NC are in the NT. Thx in advance.

Solberg, when Steve says the Pharisees didn't keep the Laws of Moses, it means the same with your understanding of Torah Plus of the Pharisees, when you add to the Torah (or) when you substract from the Torah: Both groups are not keeping the Torah the way Jesus did! Keeping the laws of Moses is under the condition of not adding nor substracting from it. Keeping it exactly as is written, no more, no less!

First, let me say that I love the way you and Dr. Jordan Peterson dress when you make a video. I personally love it and it says you respect those you're speaking to. I so greatly admire the work you do and I pray for you. Seems almost like Paul's day when responding to justification by faith in Jesus, "well I guess you can go out and sin then" and then the Judaizers telling the Gentiles they needed to practice circumcision and follow the Law. Having come out of a Christian cult I know that those who believe and practice these things will ultimately feel the weight of legalism and how they can never be good enough for God. Mr. Solberg, I only just discovered you. At approx. 47 min. Mr. Moutria says that we are KEPT saved by the fruit of our obedience. This is very similar to the error of John Piper who teaches "final justification". I am bothered that so many Bible teachers gymnastically attempt to excuse and explain away his heresy. I don't care whether Piper identifies himself as evangelical, he has departed from the gospel! They are willing to identify J.W. and R. C. trees by their soteriological fruit, but refuse to believe that Piper says what he says. I am sure that you are not lacking subjects, but the Piper subject might be good. Many many people like him but are not discerning.

Mr. Solberg, please address the You Tube teaching (Jesus' words only) which defines "faith" as meaning obedience. I fear that many will fall for this, as they do for Psalm 119 Ministries.

Excellent video Mr. Solberg! My wife and I (recovering Torahists) have been blessed by your lectures for the past several months. There is a definite shortage of ministries addressing in depth the theology of what I fear will become one of the most robust and pervasive heretical movements of this century. One note I will add, at 37:47 you note that Torahism commonly teaches that the seven moedim exclusively are allowed to be celebrated. In my experience few if any Torah preachers seem to teach this and this in a minority position. Rather what is often taught if that in Deuteronomy 12:30-31 the Torah prohibits rededicating pagan rituals and practices to God. They will further make speculative claims that Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and sometimes St. Valentine's Day and St. Patricks Day are reconstituted pagan or Catholic holidays that should not be celebrated. The number 1 point that can end everything that moutria says, the 1 thing hes not understanding: the law was not given to make us all morally righteous. The law was given to point to our sin, show us that we are imperfect and cannot obey it perfectly, and since god expects perfection, points us to a savior, who can help us be righteous and justified of the law. But not by the law.

I could be wrong but when it's said that "we keep our salvation by keeping the law" What I gather from that is that Jesus doesn't save us He didn't pay the price. He merely paid the deposit, made a down payment. And if we don't keep up the monthly payments then here comes the repo man to take it back. 🤔

Great understanding at 45 min. Where you explain Romans 3:29-30 as proving that salvation and justification are not through the law because then God -Who is the One and Same God to Jews and Gentiles- God then excludes the Gentiles who have not the Law. Great connection of the two concepts ov verses 29 to 30.

I just had this same debate with a pastor who holds this Hebrew root theology Blows my mind this man used ecact same verses. Jumped and distracted. I told him I did not want to give my thoughts or my opinions but stick to scripture. He refused to define himself as blood lineage to Jacob aka Israel. He is neither Jew nor Gentile. Why are they stuck on Torah. What is the finished work of the Cross? Which covenant do they believe in. The conversation ended with my ending as it was going around nowhere. I read complete teaching of Jesus, Peter and Paul. He just dismissed the basic new covenant and the conversation was going nowhere. So sad.

About sin being breaking the law it really depends on what one understands by “law”. The Torah is often also referred to as the Law of Moses. However Abraham already kept the Torah implies that it preexisted mount sinai and was only put into writing there by Moses. I disagree with Mr Moutria on his definition of Torah but he could be correct in defining sin as breaking the Torah. Torah really isn’t just about laws but it’s about instructions which apply depending on the place, the role and the situation one is in.

This in and of itself IS a violation of not only Torah but is a principle we find , in the beginning of the Bible (Deut 4:2), in the middle of the Bible, (Prov. 30:6) and at the end of the Bible (Rev 22:18,19). So for you to then you conclude that they followed the Torah very strictly,,,well that's a real head scratcher, Mark 7 is pretty clear on this and how Yeshua felt about these fences. To say that by adding more restrictions to Torah, this was somehow them following it more accurately is completely circular.

Mr. Solberg. I am putting my eggs all in one basket, hoping that you might find them. I have long argued with a brother about the error of the "result" in the NIV at Romans 6:22. I see no substantiation for that word in Greek, and especially not by the clear logic intended in the text. The word "result" seems to be an intentional contradiction of the giftedness intended. My brother believes that eternal life is based on obedience, based on this verse in the NIV. He says, "I LIKE IT".

Watching this just reminds me of the years I binge watched 119’s videos, including when Steve was with them. It wasn’t until I’d left the movement and was later watching Mike Winger critique the ministry, and he picked up on how manipulative they are. All the 119 guys. I never realized that at the time! Now, whenever I see a clip of their’s, its all I can see! And Steve is no exception, he may have left 119, but he took his greasy manipulative tactics with him! He’s playing dirty in this debate, IMO. Also, yes, his “take” on keeping your salvation, its also what 119 teaches. Works.
