The black cement 5 is probably my second favorite Air Jordan of all time behind the white cement 4. IMO JB nailed this release the embroidering of the "NIKE AIR" on the heels is awesome. My only contention with JB craftsmanship is that the embroidering and font is dead on with this black metallic 5 but not so on the maroon 6 and black infrared's. Granted you cannot see the fonts on both 6's because of the thread is the same color as the panels on the upper but the font is shit IMO.

great comparison. it's funny that some of the fine details on the 2000's would make a lot of sneakerheads suspect fakes in 2016: the jumpman buttcrack, half-assed stitching on the logos/branding, logos touching the seams, widows peaks on the panels... all that stuff is basically what distinguishes a $230 pair of real Jordans from $70 Chinese fakes in 2016. shows how the quality of fakes has not only improved, but forced Jordan to tighten up on the details of their own shoes to stay ahead of the growing boitleg market.

were the pairs in the 90's "AIR JORDAN" behind the tongue upside down? I noticed the 2011 and your 2000 had the AJ spelled right side up but the 2016 is upside down..

Great video. Very detailed. JB did a great job of coming pretty damn close to the original 1990 pair. 7 years later and mine are still crispy, the blue tint definitely slowed down the yellowing, it’s more like just a clear sole now as I’m sure many of you know. I’m kicking myself for not getting a pair to rock and one to stock. Got my 2020 Fire red 5s on ice still, and the blue tint is still there after 3 yrs. Again, great job on the video dude. 7 yrs later lol

I actually like the 2000 pair better

I haven't watched the full video, but is there any way to prevent that yellowing? I'm 17 now and I plan on wearing these for the rest of my life (I'll be the flyest 70 year old ever). I wanna keep these shoes looking as clean as possible, and the yellowing on the sides and sole make them look kinda dirty. Other than that this is probably my favorite shoe of any brand or style of alltime.

Technology has a big thing to do with stitching and lines. It's always improving so I think if you own older pairs you're golden as a collector cause you truly have something that's not going to be done. Newer owners are a bit spoiled cause you won't run into those vintage flaws. I'm a 70's baby so when I'd see glue mistakes etc I knew I was getting something ground breaking in terms of manufacture. Resellers of the five black aren't going to capitalize as much. The shoe for a wearer is a true classic a must have for your collection.

I have a pair of DS 2000 and a pair from 2006, just picked up a ds 2016 for 80 bucks, ever since Adidas took over the market, Jordan and Nike reselling came crashing down, they are hella cheap now compared to 3-5 years ago, got my 2000 pair for 300 bucks, 5 years ago they would've sold for 700+

imma have to say the 2016s look way better than the 2000 except for two things, the icy blue sole and the toebox. i prefer the slanted toebox on the 2000 pair and the icy sole on the 2016 just throws me off as well. besides those two things, the 2016s were very well made

Excellent video. Nice in-depth comparison. Let's face it guys, this video shows just how great of a job Nike did with these 5s. Does it warrant the $220 price tag? Probably not. But it's only because of that high price tag and also a general release that I was able to get a pair and not pay reseller rape prices. Hats off to JB for these.

maybe it's just age, but the whole 2000 shoe seems to have a lower profile. interesting how much style has changed... we def love big tongues in 2016. i guess it has to do with the skinny jean thing, where more of the shoe is being shown than gack in 2000 where mf's was wearing huuuge jeans and sagging to boot, that the top half of the sneakers just got covered up.

They weren't the Sang ones, but a brand called CalPro. They are deadstock from 1985. I was wondering if they were worth anything for if you were interested! Definitely a cool find!
