The allure is quite fine Amel 50, and allure are pretty much my list. Now as you probably know, a very important part of boat construction is the stringer system. These should be fiberglassed into the boat for strength. If you check the video on Sailing Aurora repair and on a couple of Beneteau, expedition Evans is one. The stringers are glued onto the hull. Sailing Aurora explains why a full layup is important. The Jeanneau 55 brochure comes right out and tells you that the stringers are glued to the hull. Also Jeanneau puts laminated woodwork ( made in Italy) in their boats. That is also in the brochure. Here is the quote on the Jeanneau 55 EXTERIOR Construction • Vacuum infused hull. Solid laminate in keel area. Barrier coat used to guard against osmosis. • Glued hull counter-mould • Infused deck and contact counter- mould • L-shaped cast iron keel • Twin rudders with self-aligning roller bearing GLUED HULL CENTER MOULD This refers to gluing in the stringer system. This decreases the strength quite a bit. Between this defect and the laminated wood, Jeanneau is committed to selling the bling and not a high quality vessel. I would post on how the stringers are attached to each vessel. Laid up or glued. Given the new Jeanneau is glued and a 2007 Beneteau is glued, I suspect they are all glued. I could not copy the brochure file here. Best Joe I was here about the moody. I am working on the stringer issue. We know that Hanse glues their Hanse yachts. Moody is owned by Hanse.
I know I will upset many old geezers (I am getting there) who refuse to accept that old and sexy are incompatible but I don't understand why Americans are quite innovative when it comes to most things and yet resist modernity when it comes to sailboats. Passport is a pretty boat but at that size and budget I would definitely go for the Allures 51.9 (Olivier Racoupeau design) which is aluminum construction, hard Bimini, centerboard, double helm, extremely functional and spacious cockpit, fun to sail...I can go on. Passport doesn't come close. Allures 51.9 is one of the two best cruisers under 60, the other being, if you have the money, the Oyster 565. Garcia Exploration 52 is also a player if you want to do a Northwest passage. I'm surprised you even paused before choosing that 2022 Amel 50.
