Man, I just love the sound of that lather being generated in the bowl. In my opinion, half the fun of the shave is making that sweet lather. Really satisfying. That’s a great quality lather my friend. Congrats Matt and have a great weekend!

Thank you brother! It really has a nice sound to it doesn’t it? I think that bowl would be great for an ASMR shave, even the clinking noises from the brush are satisfying on that copper! You’d surely enjoy this bowl! Have a great weekend as well, Aaron!

Congratulations on your graduation! I love bowl lathering also. It helps with the aroma therapy of a great scented shave soap. Have a great week.❤👊🏽

Thanks Mel!! It really does help with the aroma therapy. And I find that face lathering leaves me with brush burn and just isn’t as enjoyable for me as whipping up a nice lather in a bowl! I hope your week is going well!

I use the Captain's Choice Obsidian and am equally thrilled with this bowl. I decided against the standard bowl because water and ultimately dirt accumulates under the bent edge that cannot be removed.

Congratulations on your graduation Matt👏! That CC bowl is on my wish list, love the copper which reminds of my father working with copper pipes when I was young, he was a Master Plumber. The clinking sound is just natural and wouldn't bother me. Nice lather demo as well. Take care Matt!👍🤠

Thanks Uncle L! That would be a nostalgic piece for you to add to your den for sure! The feel of the copper bowl and everything about it is just so satisfying, even the noise! It feels great in the hand and heats up quickly under hot water. Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great weekend! 👍🏻

Congratulations, hey my recommendation from using this bowl for a while now is to spread the soap across the entire bottom within the grooves so it’s a nice thin coat. Then you can either put a little hot water on top to let it bloom for a minute and then use a dry brush to whip up a great lather. Or soak the brush in hot water and go about it that way with no water in the bowl. Either way it works out great.

Thank you! That sounds like a great way to use it as well - I’ll have to try it and compare!

Congrats on the Masters! Pretty awesome grad gift, don't have much gear left that I'd like to acquire, but that CC copper bowl is on the list. Cheers

Try "Uncle Bob's Slurry Method". It is way faster. 1) Measure 1/16 tsp of soap (aka a PINCH) 2) Add 1/2 Tablespoon of distilled water 3) Mash the soap in the lathering bowl with your thumb until the soap/water mixture becomes a slurry 4) With a slightly damp brush, whip the slurry into a gorgeous lather. My method is much faster as you have added 24 times more water than soap to begin with. No need to add extra water and because the soap is all dissolved, it whip ups so fast. I use a cheap pen knife to scrape every last bit of soap out of the measuring spoon. It makes enough soap for a 3-pass plus wash face shave. The distilled water also really helps make the soap pop. A PINCH measuring spoon is available at a kitchen specialty store.

I use a synthetic brush only. A badger brush will absorb too much water.

@shavingtheday Год назад
Thanks! I’ll have to give that a try and pick up some distilled water!

@@shavingtheday No problem. I have been experimenting with this method for 1 1/2 years. I have tried it with many artisan brands like Lothur and Barrister & Mann and it works. Be sure to use a synthetic brush.

Hi Matt. I have a bit of a shaving bowl obsession and have wanted to try one of these bowls for years. I just never got around to it for some reason. I was recently lucky enough to win a giveaway from Captain's Choice (shout out to the owner Scott for being so gracious) so I was able to get one. I wasn't sure whether to try this one or the heavyweight and decided to try the standard one first. What a great bowl! I agree that I got the best bowl lather yer using it. The proportions are just about perfect but the real magic is in the slight drag of the copper surface on the bristles. It causes a bit more friction than I get in any of my other bowls and I think it makes all the difference. I recently bought an expensive handmade pottery bowl with a beautiful glaze that is almost frictionless and I have a heck of a time making a good lather with it, especially compared to this bowl. Thanks for the review. I hope you are having a good week!

Hi Eric! How cool that you won the giveaway and were able to pick up one of these bowls! I had a hard time deciding between the standard or heavyweight but I’m beyond happy with the standard! You’re so right about the friction from the copper, I was trying to figure out what about it other than the ridges helped it whip up such a nice lather and it definitely is the drag that you mentioned. I’m so glad you’ve had such a great experience with it too, and it’s beautiful also, so I don’t see myself ever really not using it haha. Thanks for sharing Eric and I hope your week is going well!

Great review, I have the Captains Choice Copper Obsidian bowl and agree with everything you say. I love it. What I do for lather consistency is to start with a rounded 1/4 tsp of soap and intermittently add 8-10 1/4Tsp of water. I smear soap in bowl like you did. Wet my brush and gently squeeze it (try to do it the same each time). Start working the lather and when it looks kinda pasty add (2) 1/4 tsp of water. Whip a little more then add (2) more 1/4 tsp of water. Continue this method until you have added 8-10 tsp of water. I get beautiful, consistent lather and have enough for 3 passes with soap left over. Enjoy your new bowl

Thank you! The obsidian bowl looks absolutely beautiful! That sounds like a great way to get consistent lather every time, I may have to try the teaspoon method, thank you for sharing!

When I apply the finished lather to my face, how much water should I have on my face? Should I wipe the water off my face and then apply the lather to my face, otherwise the water on my face will dilute the lather I worked so hard to make?
@shavingtheday
@shavingtheday 27 дней назад
@@yc-ju9us depends how you like your lather and how hydrated your lather is! My face is always at least a little wet from rubbing warm water on my beard to hydrate the whiskers and it never is enough to mess up my lather
