Hello from my homestead in northwest Florida growing zone 8b. I'm gonna be digging my two patches soon. Last year I grew some of my favorite sweet potatoes, the asian ones with red skin that have the antique white flesh, up by my shed behind the house and some beauregards sprung up by compost corral. This year I have patch of both of those in my big garden area in the back end of property. The patch by shed from last year volunteered this year so I let them grow, I think they did better than the ones I planted intentionally in the big garden. LOL.

Hello friend! That’s fabulous! We do deep mulch gardening and and while we were transitioning over we deep mulched around the rows of plants. A zucchini seed accidentally fell into the mulch and it grew faster and larger as well as bore more fruit than the ones intentionally planted! lol We also had a volunteer butternut squash in our burn pile this year. Love it! We’ve have not tried the Asian ones but now that we live in an areas where they are happy, we will try different varieties. We are zone 7b Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

Some of the smaller root-like ones I got will be dehydrated for dog treats. They love them too. ❤

@@HeartandHomesteadwithDawn My grandparents lived on a 5 acre or more farm and in the fall every year us grandkids would help harvest the sweet and ice potatoes. He used a potato plow on his tractor and would take his time doing each row while we picked up the potatoes. It was a good time because it was one of the few times us kids could get together and “play” in the red clay mud without getting in trouble. At the end of the day we would put the bushel baskets in the shed and cover. We would be rewarded with fresh pies 😋

Your soil is very loose. How fid you amend it? Did you add peat moss?

Hello 🙋‍♀️ thank you for watching. What you are seeing is a beautiful soil that is a result of one foot of wood chips breaking down over 2 years.
