An introduction to a Riviera Travel Autumn cruise along the River Rhone from Avignon and Arles to Lyon.
We took this cruise at the end of October on the William Shakespeare, which was built in 2014. This is a comfortable ship with cabins on 3 decks. Free wifi is available but a bit patchy.
The food is very good with 3 meals included in the price. If you buy the drinks package, you will be served better wines with your meals.

River cruise boats on the Rhône River are designed to provide a comfortable and immersive experience as passengers traverse the picturesque landscapes and cultural landmarks of the region. Here are some common features and characteristics of river cruise boats on the Rhône:
Intimate Atmosphere:
River cruise boats on the Rhône are generally smaller and more intimate than ocean cruise ships. This allows for a cosy and friendly atmosphere, fostering a sense of community among passengers.
Staterooms with River Views:
Staterooms on river cruise boats often feature large windows or balconies that offer stunning views of the passing scenery. The cabins are designed for comfort and typically include amenities such as en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, and storage space.
Public Areas:
Common areas on board are designed to maximise passenger comfort and enjoyment. These will include a lounge for socialising, a dining room with panoramic views, and outdoor spaces where passengers can relax while taking in the scenery.
Dining Options:
River cruise boats on the Rhône often feature gourmet dining experiences with a focus on regional cuisine. Passengers can savour local flavours and wines as part of their inclusive packages.
Entertainment and Enrichment:
While the emphasis is on the destination and cultural experiences ashore, river cruise boats also offer onboard entertainment and enrichment activities. This might include lectures, live music, and themed events that provide insights into the local culture and history.
Sun Deck:
A sun deck is a common feature on river cruise boats, providing passengers with an open-air space to relax, enjoy the sunshine, and take in the scenic views. It may also include a small pool or loungers for added comfort.
Fitness and Wellness Facilities:
Some river cruise boats offer fitness centers or wellness areas where passengers can stay active or indulge in spa treatments.
Shore Excursions:
Shore excursions are a key component of river cruises. The boat will typically dock in or near town centres, allowing passengers easy access to explore the destinations on guided tours or at their own pace.
Cruise Director and Staff:
A dedicated cruise director and staff ensure that passengers have a seamless and enjoyable experience. They provide information, assist with excursions, and create a welcoming atmosphere on board.
Wi-Fi and Connectivity:
Many river cruise boats offer Wi-Fi and connectivity options, allowing passengers to stay in touch with loved ones and share their travel experiences on social media.
Overall, the design and amenities of river cruise boats on the Rhône aim to provide a luxurious and immersive journey, combining the comfort of onboard facilities with the rich cultural experiences found along the river's banks.
