This is why my mom added a cap on my container filled with dead moths

Been there mate, beatles once attacked my collection and ate few butterflies. Since then I always have thymol in glass vials in closed cases where speciments are. But attack during spreading... that I didn't think of until now.

It seems no matter how careful you are some how these scavengers find a way to destroy our entomology trophies. I bought a mounted turkey from Tampa Florida, drove down to buy it and bring it back home. Well I found out months later it was infested with carpet beatles. I had to remount some of my larger collections because wings started to fold in word. Worst timing because the beatles decided to lay larva inside 50% of my butterflys i was recounting. I had 200 butterflys and moths out when it happened in my spare room. 😖😣 some were from the 1980s completely destroyed. This just happened last may to June. Talk about a bummer man. I know how if feels. Sorry about the loss of a beautiful moth.

I've very luckily never had an issue and I'm not super careful. I fumigate my room and utilise moth balls for my boxes.

atlease he didnt get any wings, legs, antennas because that would be bad i would rather have the abdomen gone than anything else on my specimens

That really sucks, I've lost several over the years by not keeping up with my vapor tape or other deterrents. I absolutely hate dermestid beetles, they are my bane.

mmmm its not that bad tbh ive had worse happen to me one time a few days ago i had a really cool tussock moth it was really fresh and pretty and my damn cat decides to lay down on my spreading board its really annoying hes done that 2 maybe 3 times now where he lays down on my spreading board so now i have to keep my spreading board on top of my fridge so nothing can get to it
