5 crucial things I had to change to survive. I had a very rough week...my very close friend's husband filed for divorce after 39 years of marriage...and her sorrow is mine. But she is doing much better this weekend. This video was sparked by feeling down and realizing how fast I get back up...and I want to share these things I do to help me really live a better life. Jones Road Balm! I review it!
I share with you this crazy week I had voting, medical tests, and doing a lot of walking by the river and thinking things through.
My grandfather was the biggest influence in my life and he taught me the importance of a swing-and-miss compared to the failure of never making it up to bat.
Please feel free to jump in and make this one great wild conversation about aging, womanhood and never giving up!
Saturday night kisses...I vote yes.
I love you so much!!!!
Best Wishes Always, Susan & Desi

Personally, I feel we were brainwashed to think we need to do all that doctoring. I doctor when I feel the need. I eat healthy, I exercise and I know my body. If I feel something isn’t right, I seek the help of a doctor. I’m much happier not obsessing over Medicine. I’m 73, no meds, some supplement, grounded in Faith and so much happier. My mom is like this, she went through breast cancer at 76. The whole 9 yards. She said she wasn’t once afraid, but saw fear in everyone’s face that was there. She did what she had to do and went on with life. She stopped the mammogram at 85 and is now 91. She said “ I love the Lord and that’s all the matters - I don’t care about giving all of it thought anymore” - I hope to live as long as her.

One thing I’ve enjoyed as an older woman is having the luxury to sit and savor a morning sunrise, or a steamy cup of coffee without being rushed. I loved all of the seasons of my life … the student, working mother … but now I have time to just sit back, reflect on my blessings with gratitude, and enjoy this season. God is good to allow me this.

I’m a retired nurse from the VA of 35 years. I’ve lost two husbands my high school sweetheart at 20 and my soulmate at 59. A year later, our Puggle Lizzie passed away. I think I’ve had enough grief, and been on that journey too many times. Lost my father to leukemia two years ago. So at 65, I got two tattoos, I’m living the life I choose, I’ve stopped people pleasing, And I pray every day to God, and thank him for the life that he has given me!

It was a good week that ended with sheer mental exhaustion. I am 71 years of age, and decided January 3 this would be the year I would buy a house. I signed the paperwork February 27 and became a homeowner. I have been single for 19 years and yet at this age, I feel more powerful, resilient, healed, and blessed than I ever have in my entire life. All the folks who say do this or don't do that at a certain age may have good intentions, however, to live life is to feel pain and joy no matter what age a person may be. I look forward to Saturday evening with Little Poet. I wish you the best. You are a young woman of 69 doing well. You inspire women to continue to progress in their lives of any age. ❤

Well done you. The only thing I was ever really good at school was drawing and painting. But was always told that's not for the likes if us. I am nearly 60 and I started watercolor about 5 years ago. Within a couple of years I was selling my paintings. I couldn't believe it. I always thought that you would have to be perfect for someone to pay money for something you had made. But I realized people like what the like. I love painting. I hope you will find the joy for it that I have.

I retired and moved to Nashville and let me tell you girl, it's the best decision I've ever made in my life ! I feel like I have reinvented myself. I've met so many new people and have made several good friends in my neighborhood. I feel happier now than I did as a kid, because I have time to go out and explore my new city, it is alive and growing with adventure. The precious little time I have left, I aim to enjoy it. I'm excited about waking up every day ! I never expected to retire, but after getting stuck in a rut at work, I handed in my resignation and out the door I went. As soon as we realize our Saturday nights are fleeting, we wake up and change our old ways, for new ways and make our golden years shine with joy ! It's later than we think, Live as much as you can, while you can. Love & Hugs Meme

I've been watching you for years - since I discovered my husband of decades was having multiple affairs. Since I packed up and sold what was left of our retirement (after he had given it all away to women or blackmailers) and at 64 moved across country with my dog to start a new life....at 64. Broke. Alone. But I did it. You helped. I'm 67 now. Living in a teeny apartment , which I adore (no more heavy cleaning!) by a lovely river. In a small city with ballet and symphonies. I'm starting my own dream business. I have built a Bank account so I'm not scared anymore. I have a wide circle of dear friends so I'm not alone. My grown-up grandchildren love to travel anywhere in the world with me ....I have a good life. You helped. You encouraged. I feel more "girly" than I have for a long time. This episode was your BEST!! Life at our age doesn't stop,.it becomes OUR OWN. Maybe for the first time. Don't waste a moment of it. You are right, it's a job - but I've taken other jobs, motherhood, wife, teaching; very seriously, I can take take this one just as seriously too.

I totally understand your mindset. My career was in the medical field. Stage 3 cancer here. When my brain returned, I read the latest medical study (2021) which stated my odds of hitting 5 yr survival dropped from 13% to 8%… my oncologist is a straight-shooter.” I asked her if what I’d read was accurate. She confirmed it was. I just started year 3, headed for that coveted first 5 year mark… Some ladies in that study had to make that 8%, out of thousands. Why can’t it be me or you? God knows (or whatever you choose to call the higher power) what the future may bring?! Adding you, Sister, to my prayer 🙏🏻 list. ❤

I have had a good reasons for not trusting doctors, too many have failed me miserably, including 6 who never diagnosed my low thyroid and by the time I found one who did, I was nearly dead. I had been telling them for 6 years that something was wrong and no one listened. But let me tell you a story that some would call sychronicity. Thirty years ago, I was going to get a divorce. Before that, when I was 44, I had a perfect year, everything flowed and I was following the Moody Blues music, just having discovered it all over and was going to their concerts with my girlfriends all the time. So, this one Tuesday afternoon (get it?) I had found out I needed $1700 for a lawyer and I didn't have it. I would have put it on my Discover card, but i hadn't gotten a new one for two years and didn't have a current one. So, driving home from the lawyer, it was that Tuesday and that song came on the radio. I was crying because I didn't know what to do about the money, but I was also singing along to my fave group. I got home just as the song ended, and went to the mailbox. What do you think was in that mailbox? A Discover card. Now, it ended up I didn't have to use it, but just knowing that I was being looked after that day by God and my guardian angels was a lesson. I know you understand.

I think Desi’s singing causes a ripple of smiles and laughter too across the entire country. Happy Birthday, Buster. I’m sure Desi is your best buddy… for sure he has the best singing voice and that’s saying lots when he’s hanging out with Beagle hounds… love your boy, Susan. Already looking forward to next week’s video.

Hi Susan, I'm turning 60 this yr. I wish I could say I had a rough wk, but it's actually been a rough yr. I let myself become afraid to leave the house for almost the entire yr, & literally stopped doing everything & gave up on myself even though I have 3 grown kids & have been married for 34 yrs..(the last 15 as roommates) & last wk, I felt so awful that I just stayed in bed, all wk. I had lost all motivation, but when I watched your video tonight, your words started to resonate with me so, tomorrow I plan to finally put on some music in the house again & start dancing like I did yrs ago. I'll probably only be able to dance to 2 songs, but It's a start..., & once I can get to 20 min or so I too will start making appts for all the tests I've also avoided. So thank you for the encouaging words you give as they really mean alot, you always sound so sincere & that you care about your viewers & I think I really needed to feel like someone cares...so again thank you. Wishing you & Desi a great week... ❤

go to a psychiatrist and get on meds, you will feel 100 times better and then once your better and, on your way, you can probably wean off the meds. Don't get them from your regular doctor they don't know enough about how these meds work you have to have constant contact with your doctor while on them in case something happens.

I start each day reading the Bible. I keep God with me and have an ongoing dialogue with God, that really doesn't ever stop. I realized years ago, everything is not about me, that released a great deal of unnecessary emotional weight off my shoulders. Oft times, I realized my personal reactions to difficult situations of others...was becoming about me. My mantra for the past several years, "It is what it is." For me, that became a peaceful revelation for me. God's blessings to everyone this week. May it be a week of God's love and peace.

Don’t let anyone tell you how long deep grief “should” last…. It will take as long as it takes. But in the meantime, try to take gentle care of yourself and make thoughtful decisions as we would have when our husbands were with us. First off I want to thank everyone who prayed for my son, he had his 3rd Open Heart Surgery on February 20th, at the University of Florida at Shands Heart and Vascular hospital. He was in ICU for 9 days, surgery was complex but by the grace of God he pulled through. I am so happy that this past year has been the best year for you. I am 73, I keep up with my health checkups now because of my heart, High Blood Pressure and if that’s not enough I have diabetes. I took my health for granted not anymore. So,proud of you Susan dancing is one of my favorites way of exercising. I used to have “thick” hair my beautician said the same thing as we age our hair thins, dry and brittle. I use Moroccan oil, and a shampoo that has Keratin and my hair shines and it’s so soft. Have a blessed week❤

I spent last Friday in the hospital. Went to the hospital Thursday night at 11:30 pm, with chest pains. I am almost 77 years old. After ct scan and ultrasound of the heart, etc. Diagnosis indigestion. On the plus side, I know my heart is ok. Now I have lumbar scoliosis and bulging discs in my lower back, but not a lot of pain. Old age isn't for sissies.

No it isn’t for sissies. Or whiners! I have had a problem since early adulthood that makes me exhausted after a normal tasks. All my muscles ache. No doctor has diagnosed anything or seemed concerned. When I hear someone my age complain about having to slow down due to various aches and easier exhaustion, I am speechless. They seem to feel this change is terribly unfair. It would not do a bit of good for me to say, “ Welcome to my world”, but I sure do want to.😊

It is empowering to make the list and cross those check-ups off as they're completed, hopefully with positive results. The best exercise routine is the one you love and do. Some days I like breaking it down into smaller bursts of movement. I love TLC foundation too, and the tap tap tapping stimulates circulation. Do find something new and fun to fill the gaps, change can be exciting. ❤️🌻🙏

Add some more medications. 🙄 now waiting for cardiac clearance for the umbilical hernia. If the anesthesiologist hadn’t cancelled the surgery I would’ve never found out about these other issues. I'll be 69 in May. I've noticed that I was slowing down, having trouble with stairs, and nervous when walking my dog, I was afraid I couldn't control him. I splurged on a treadmill, something I've been wanting for years. I do it 30 minutes a day, and I can't believe how much it's helped! My mobility is much better, I'm physically stronger and more confident. I live in Chicago and I broke my leg a few years ago on an icy sidewalk. With the treadmill I can walk all year round without fear of slipping on ice and breaking my leg again. Plus, regular exercise helps with depression. I'm so much happier now, and all it takes is 30 minutes a day.

But the bright side is I am getting a tax refund that will cover probably 80%. Now thats a blessing! I know I go against everything I'm supposed to do... but my mother and my spouse both died of cancer at age 59. They did all the right things, went to the doctor regularly, but they are gone. At 59 I stopped going to the doctor except for one complete metabolic panel a year , I will be 74 this year and I am still here. My doctor says I don't know what you're doing,, but everything looks great, so keep doing it. I worked in the medical profession for 44 years before retiring.I say if I feel this good.., don't look for trouble!!! Also about missing being a girl... its not just women. I remember when my Dad, who passed at 95, seeing himself in a picture when he was 89 saying ... who the hell is that old guy? haha Inside we still feel like the girls and guys of our youth. On Tuesday she got a call to come out of state that her younger sister was taking to the hospital in bad shape. Bye the time my friend got there her sister was on life support. On Thursday she passed away. On Friday as they were planing her funeral they got a call that her nephew was taken to shock trauma after a fall. He is now on life support. I also have very heavy beaded gowns, same...but I love them and I will always buy them. Like you buying vases...I buy very high heels I can’t walk in and gowns that have never seen a ball. Years ago, you made a comment on your channel that the way mature women applied makeup made them look harsher and older. This was a time when influencers were singing the praises of full coverage foundation and often applied a shade darker and warmer than their natural coloring. You were so right about heavy makeup aging us. Luckily, times have changed, and good skincare under a very light touch of serum foundation can give us a touch of youth. Thank you Susan, for setting me on this trail all those years ago. I watch a chanel, French for a Day, and she uses a light hand for all her products.

Hi Susan. I’ve found that staying away from the medical system has made me healthier. Acupuncture, meditation, vitamins, herbal supplements, exercise, yoga, Pilates and many other more holistic practices have strengthened my immune system and cleared out toxins from medications. I’m not condoning boycotting doctor visits, but the medical and pharmaceutical industry is very big business and I am very discerning with my health. I just love your videos and wanted to share another perspective. You look just lovely and healthy. I just bought Miracle Balm as well and I’m pretty impressed! 😊

I agree with you. Everytime I've had a mammogram, I'm asked to come back immediately or in 6 mos. because there's something suspicious, or else they claim I need a breast biopsy! Even scaring me to death with their "Birads 4 !!!" mammo classification. I've never had cancer or any breast cancer symptoms, and I'm 72. I've had many unnecessary biopsies (and titanium markers put in to mark the biopsy spot). Like Susan, sometimes I skip a couple or several years with the mammograms, because I know I'll never be told my mammo is fine, even though they really ARE! But the good news for me is that the American College of Radiology Association states there is no evidence that having mammograms after age 74 lengthens lives. It's even posted in the mammogram waiting room. So, I'm almost there, age-wise! (Of course, if I ever get a symptom, I'll go for a mammo, even after age 74.)

My mother just turned 88 so I am blessed but have lost many friends that didn't live long enough to collect their hard earned social security. They followed doctor's orders. Eating healthy, supplements and exercise are the keys to good health. And Susan's approach to life itself is part of that...finding the joy, loving friends and a good dog are what feeds our soul.

Also joined a walking group in my area that is there if I feel like some company. I have also started strength training hoping I can get my arms looking better. Yep Exercise is the ticket and walking is the best!!!!

I’m 79 and a yearly mammogram saved my life. There was a change in one year and thankfully a lumpectomy and radiation was sufficient. My brother died of colon cancer and I had surgery four years ago on a malignancy on my colon and 1/3 of my colon was removed. I go to Silver Sneakers three mornings per week for one hour. I go to get cardio exercise, maintain stability and strength. I like your hair blonde and the style is flattering.

@kathybriscoe1474, It is so wonderful that you had your mammogram in time!. I am 78 and was told by my doctor a few years ago that I didn't need to have mammograms if I didn't want to. Do you mind me asking if there is a history of breast cancer in your family? I have never had a negative exam, and there was no family history, but now I am wondering if I should still have a yearly exam.

Hi Susan, I just wanted to share and I know that not everyone can do this for various reasons, but when I turned 60 I stopped coloring my hair. I swore I’d never go gray. I have very thick and loose curly hair. I lost most of my hair when I got pneumonia. I used a concoction of essential oils and my hair came back with a vengeance ( that’s the words my hairdresser used!) It’s such a pretty , natural white platinum in the front and I wear it in long layers. I never thought I’d say these words. Wash, conditioner, put on a small amount of leave in conditioner and a product for curls. Don’t touch until fully air dried and then pick out the curls, I flat ironed and dyed my hair for about 17 years-now I just enjoy my natural God given hair. Never used hair spray. A masque once a week is important.😊🤗

Hi Susan and Desi! So what has helped my skin is water and walking. I've changed my diet too! I walk about a mile and half 5 times a week or more and sometimes 2 miles. I've reduced my calories gradually, so my body could get used to the deficit easier. Which I have adjusted to just fine. My skin and hair are better for it and my waistline has come down 3-4". My dress size used to be a 1X I'm now a XL to a Large. Most of my tops are a med/large and I have big boobies LOL! Changing my diet and exercising has helped my appearance so much. I'm 65 and a woman thought I was in my 50's, lol I'll take it!!! Make up can only help so much but taking better care of our insides first, will help improve the outside too! Hugs and have a blessed week!

Bonjour Susan, I so look forward every week to watching you and listening to you and see your cute little Desi. I just turned 75 years old two weeks ago, 3/4 of a century… that’s quite something that this body has supported me all these years and for that I’m very grateful. I totally relate to feeling like I am not the same as I was years ago. Like your neighbor said wearing the high heels and the low-cut dresses are not for us anymore. Men my age, don’t look at me, they want women younger, and that saddens me not to be desired so much anymore. I had sort of a rough week also. I understand about car situations. I have to work, it is what it is, and when I came home the other day, I looked at my front tire and saw that it was really bald and the metal was showing on it, so the next morning I had to go out and buy another tire. You’re absolutely right about what you said about The small cost you had to pay but it saved your life. With all the rain that we’ve had here in Georgia I could’ve slipped off the road as well and I’m grateful that I was able to get that taken care of and be done with it. I find it difficult that as we age, we should be blessed with more, but in fact, we get charged more for everything. My car and health insurance were raised, my rent was raised and so is my Internet. It’s hard to understand this world anymore, I’m not being negative but it is a fact. I wish you a wonderful upcoming week and I very much look forward to hearing from you next week. With much appreciation, MarieClaude
