you need stand close to these to feel the power...videos dont capture the force they generate.. Not only do the RAF boys and gals,defend us they rescue us when we do stupid things at sea and on seashores...and the real stuff with mariners etc at sea...they have my greatest respect 1 and all..

Oh god i know. The first time I saw one as a kid I already knew I was gonna become a pilot because my parents both are but seeing the s-61 and he landed right over my head coming straight over my back and landing in front of me. Once I got the back half the helo which is the most powerful wash on any bird I physically couldn’t stay in one place as a 12yr old. Also it was 36F degrees outside so I could not breath at all. It was like being suffocated. As of today I’ve been in the wash of 53s 47s but for some reason that s-61 as a kid is the worst wash I’ve been in. Probably cause I weighed 100lbs max.

One of these landed in Castle gounds cardiff taking paitient from ambulance station to hospital....it was at idle when came across it...was about 30 feet away...when she cranked up the engine to take off speed...ground shook and it seemed it would shake itself to bits...amazing power in such a med helicopter....never forget the rumble and the boneshaking sensation...amazing.

Takes me back to when I worked on these Sea Kings at Finningley and Ascension Island. I also generated a training course for Air Comms and Air Radar people. Good times.

I remember seeing one land on Barmouth beach..it was amazing. I've been obsessed most my life.. I live by Cosford airbase and when the chinooks go over I'm in that garden 😂 like a kid

I have been lucky enough to fly in the Sea-King with the Air Sea Rescue Crew. Went on a rescue training mission on the Cairngorm mountains. Amazing skill shown by the pilot, hovering over an icy loch with those rotor blades about an inch from the cliff face. TBH thought I was about to die that day, but still a fantastic journey.

Hi DOG, thanks for sharing that amazing story. The Sea King was certainly one of the best SAR Helicopters ever built for its time.

@@DRWvids Certainly a very precise and controllable machine or the Pilot was superb, maybe both.! Those blades, looked just a bit close to the cliff for comfort. When we rose out of the narrow valley there was a herd of deer on the hill top, with the lead Stag puffing out his chest eyeballing us, (Monarch of the Glen style). Showed no fear! What a sight and what a flight, flying through snow capped Cairngorm mountain range, "Nice"! Thanks for sharing the video, and bringing back the memories. Cheers!
