Thanks for this very nice tour of another heritage railway, Sam! Many interesting pieces of rolling stock, but as I'm particularly a fan of small diesels, it was great to see a Class 14 for the first time. An HO version (perhaps minus the buffers) would be perfect for my layout. Cheers from Wisconsin!

G’day Sam. I have just visited the Hotham railway at Dwellingup, near Perth, in Western Australia. It is a place of stark difference. It went down hill all the way and the return up hill with sections at 1 in 30 so many twists and turns all on a metre gauge track. The locomotive was a 4-8-2 W class with the back up of an F class diesel. The latter looked like a class 20, sounded like a class 20 but had A-1-A bogies and an 1100 hp power unit. Yes it was an English Electric loco built in 1958. The train consisted of 5 South African coaches which neither loco could handle by them selves. The steam loco 3 and the diesel 4. On the return the train stopped to allow the steam loco to build up pressure. The main difference between your video and this railway was the condition of the stock the British one looked immaculate and well cared for. The Hotham looked untidy and in need of quality restoration and some one needs to teach them protective care as rust was evident every where. They have 3 problems one is finance two a lack of volunteers and 3 they are in the middle of nowhere over an hour from Perth. A really good railway to visit for the experience.

Great idea you have here to share with us the visit of an heritage railway. It's the strong point of Britain, the active heritage railways societies all around the British isles. From France, it's something to do when you love trains, to see at least one when you are traveling in Great Britain. I put the Ecclesbourne Valley railway on my list of "to visit" railway things in the UK.

I cannot believe you missed saying and the "Teddy bear has got sprung buffers!" 🤣Its very unusual to see a Preserved Teddy in BR black as oppose either BR Green or the later BR Blue! The connecting corridor gives you an idea of what a steam locomotive crew have to contend with, when working between the loco and the tender. Thank you for venturing into the yard there are some great reference points in the video for this rivet counter, you could spend as much time detailing the interiors of model coaches as you could with the rest of a model railway. Plus are you going to now manufacture a traditional W.C. and sink? Excellent video and I am sure the staff at Ecclesbourne Railway will be delighted with your visit and the mention on RU-vid. There are loads of 00 gauge road/rail vehicles in the Oxford Vehicle range and the shop that has the most extensive selection is Frizinghall Models & Railways. (I hope you don't mind me mentioning them, I'll delete the shop mention if you wish).

Having gone on a passenger excursion recently, this video was a real treat Sam. Class 14’s a nifty little loco. Loving the coach interiors, will definitely take inspiration with future coaches. So engine tanks aren’t necessarily part of the boiler… interesting. A model railway within an actual railway… that’s poetry. And rebuilding an extinct diesel is cool! Glad you had a great time Sam. It sure was fun to watch! Cheers!
@SamsTrains
@SamsTrains Год назад
Thanks David - yes the class 14 was awesome, handled all those coaches with ease! Yeah, I guess the tank really does just saddle over the boiler and is completely removable. The 10000 is awesome... such a cool project! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Coming up to a year ago I went on a driver experience day there and drove the 121 Bubble Car, the single car Derby Lightweight and the class 47 (which was a last minute replacement for a broken down class 31) The 121 was in mainline use with Chiltern just a few years ago, so its all modernised inside - driving it and the Derby Lightweight was interesting because they have manually controlled gearboxes and sensitive vacuum brakes

Hattons has a new run coming up later this year and... oh. They're made by Heljan. Oh dear. Well, the review video will be interesting, that's for sure! I’ve driven “Eric” before. Probably about 10 years ago on one of those driving experience days. If I recall correctly, they told me that it has a 3000bhp engine but tops out at about 11mph. Although it looks to be moving a bit quicker in your video. This is one of my favourite railways. When I went, it was closed to the public and the staff literally ran it like it was a big train set! Just messed about shunting wagons in the yard and going up and down the line. Anyway, nice video!
