Thanks so much Keekre, that means a whole lot! I'm so glad it kept to engaged the whole time, it turned out to be such a long video, I was worried it wouldn't keep people's attention! Glad it did, thanks so much!
@@woodenrailwayonly Wow thanks so much Wro, that means so much to hear! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it, I hope it has rewatch value! I definitely think my strongest skill is storytelling, so it feels great to have it reaffirmed!
Edward - “Believe me, if there were, I’d be sending Gordon a hefty bill.” Amazing work Lemmy, you’ve once again shown us all your outstanding story writing, custom making and filming skills! I can’t wait for more! And also, can’t wait to see TWR TUGS continued!
Thanks so much Victor! Glad you liked that line, it's definitely one of my favorites haha. Your compliments mean the world! And if you think this is good, IMAGINE what we're gonna make _together_ . TUGS TWR is gonna blow everybody's minds, and I cannot WAIT!
James: “no offense Edward” Also James: * proceeds to insult everything about Edward * This film was amazing! The cinematography, the models, the jokes, it was amazing! My favorite line is James complaining about not getting robbed by “fashionable steam engines”
This was epic! The villains, the sets, the writing, especially the dialogue. It’s always nice to see a Salty story, and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint.
@@MasterOfTheLemons Will their be another episode with red rail if so I have an idea. This takes place a few months after this episode Red Rail and gang become a part of the railway and everyone grows to except them except for Henry Salty and James Red rail makes friends with Skiff and Thomas Skiff tells her about his time with sailor John Then Red rail tell Skiff that she knew him as well then she goes to sleep at Tidemouth sheds where Henry and James annoy her Duck and Gordon look at each other and rolled their eyes like here we go again And Edward just pretends to be sleeping while Percy looks scared While Thomas stands up for her The next night The engines are watching the news And it appears sailor John is back on sodor then Red Rail and Thomas look at each other and that night when the other engines are asleep both of them sneak to Harwick where they wake up skiff and since he wants Justice too and then they see the gold mine and they also see sailor John threatening to kill the miners if the don't give him all the goal they have With his new method of transportation another rail boat then they fight sailor John either gets blown up or arrested again with a life sentence and the fat controller congratulats them
Okay, when I saw how pissed Edward was that Redrail tried to drown Salty, I ACTUALLY, LEGITIMATELY thought he was going to bash her into the drink right there and then!
Lemmy what the fuck this was actually my favorite solo Thomas fan film thing ever. It was genuinely hilarious and even a little emotional, especially at the end. The pacing was incredible as well, I never got bored while watching this, something was always happening and it was always important. This was fucking next level, amazing work buddy. Please help me write comedy like you also 👀
Thanks so much Ronnie, that means everything to hear! I'm so glad you appreciated the pacing and structure of the story; I think that's my favorite thing about this project. I expected it to be 15 mins, and it ended up double that. I wanted to cut it down, but everything seemed too important to the plot. I'm so glad to hear it actually was, I was really worried people would be bored. So glad you liked the comedy too, I had a lot of fun with this one haha!
“PLEASE DON’T TAKE MY SIGNED PICTURE OF SIR NIGEL GRESLEY!” Lmfao. Best shit I’ve ever seen. I’d also like to think during the chase, Duck, Gordon, Henry, Donald, Douglas, and Derek and Boco of all engines, beat up both diesels by ramming them into sets of buffers. Gordon finally shoving them through the shed wall
But seriously, this was incredible! Finally someone gives salty a fitting & interesting backstory, really fits him & the pirate theme. The sets were awesome, the scenes are gold (the sheds mainly), the voices & characters were awesome & the music was phenomenal, really fits the mood. However judging by the ending, I know this story ain't over, keep it up dude.
Thanks so much!! Glad you liked the orgin story I wrote for Salty. Tbh though, I bet there's still a LOT more of Salty's past we don't know. I think he's been all over Britain, if not the world haha. Glad you liked the sheds scenes, and I really worked hard on the music, so means a lot to hear a compliment there! We'll see if I ever continue this. I wouldn't bet on it, but you never know! I ended up really liking Red Rail as a character by the end, so maybe she deserves to return to my stories one day? Never say never!
@@MasterOfTheLemons wait you composed the music? ive had that one theme that plays during the opening stuck in my head for months! maybe a year! maybe longer! please release the OST, the theme that's presumably Red Rail's theme has been driving me mad because I can't find it anywhere. I need to listen to it on repeat for hours on end !!! in all seriousness, the soundtrack sounds great. also the writing. also the... literally everything !!
A few things I wanted to say 1.I love how everyone just accepts that its a very salty thing to fake your own death. 2. I love how the sets are made. Good mix of great props and great lighting 3. Why does Duck deny he knows nothing about the Seafaring life? Never thought he’d just outright deny it to Edward and Boco. 4. If Snapper and Seahorse were to try and pull cranky up from falling like in the movie then they'd just be town down aswell. 5. I like how Edward sends James out with the gold train even though he knows whats going to happen. Like that could've gone south really quick had the sheet not come off. 6. what happend to James? What happend to his train he abandond? 7. 20:13 EXTREME CLOSE UP WOAH 8. I like the fact you drew in the humans. Much better than just having the out of scale wooden figures or the still out of scale lego characters. 9. did gordon ever get his signed picture of Sir Nigel Gresley back?
1.Haha yeah that's just Salty being Salty 2.Thanks, I tried to get the colors to really pop in this one with the lighting! 3.I think Duck is denying it to himself too. In my head, All At Sea is still many years away in this universe, and he hasn't come to terms with the very un-great western idea of becoming a sailor yet 4.You underestimate their strength.... And stupidity 5.I think Edward knew the diesels would leave James alone once they stopped him and found nothing in the train... Maybe. 6.James's train was picked up by Arthur an hour later. He was stuck at the junction due to all trains being halted. As for James... He came buffer to buffer with the terminating road in Tidmouth Station, and vented to the stationmaster until nightfall. The stationmaster, unbelievably kind and patient, pulled up a crate and played therapist 7.OH YEAH 8.Thanks, I really wanted them to be able to make gestures and use body language, and I thought drawing was the best way! 9.He did, and this time, he had it BOLTED to the wall with the finest Doncaster rivets. It's not going anywhere now.
Seeing Salty have a pirating past exposed was so well done. The first scene was made with the big conflict and Cranky looking like he had no idea what was going on. Seeing Salty's side that doesn't want people to bother with him is something we don't see too often. It was so nice seeing your Tidmouth sheds layout again with your well drawn faces. James was brought into the story in a hilarious way, "Robbed by diesels with a cheap pirate gimmick and no sense in eyepatches!" had me in stitches. Not as good as Gordon's signed Sir Nigel picture though.
I had a mini heart attack when I saw how long this was. Lemmy, this tactic of never revealing things until they’re released is a most brilliant tactic. Btw I will write a separate comment after I watched the whole thing through.
Oh my goodness Lemmy this was spectacular the pirate OC's were interesting and when sailor John showed up I technically did not see that coming. This was amazing man.
Thanks so much Roman, your encouragement was crucial. Thanks so much, you're an amazing friend, so glad you enjoyed the final product! (Also I know this response is 4 weeks late but figured I'd respond anyway haha)
"I'M PULLING THE GOLD TRAIN" I'm beyond words, this was an excellent mix of action, humour and lovely model work as well as the animation around the faces and humans! It was a very tugsesque story too, which us a win in my book. Glad to see you back Lemmy, and i can't wait to see what you got in planned for the future!
“I’m being robbed by pirates?! Oh my god, why did no one warn me?!” James, Edward tried to warn you earlier but you wouldn’t listen! XDDDD In all seriousness, this was extremely well done. Salty’s one of the last characters I’d expect to get a backstory of some kind, and I loved how you pulled it off. Kudos!
An unconventional story yet thoroughly entertaining. The story, sets, voice acting everything was great, especially the humour. Well done. Can't wait to see more from you.
This was insane the scenery, story, everything I almost cried seeing Salty get thrown into the drink also James’ character was on point it was hilarious 😆
We need more of this, you have so much great story ideas that most of us couldn’t even dream of. This was more than brilliant, this was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Lemmy
This was a wonderful unexpected surprise! Love this take on Saltys backstory, as well as the characterization of the pirates. In fact I love the characterization of all the engines! You really know your way around these engines, and it makes this story amazing! Keep up the good work!
Have to say, this was randomly in my recommendeds, but I'm glad I saw it because this really blew my expectations away! :D I must go back in your channel and see your other works right away! Can't wait to see more in the future!
It’s crazy how I always never expect what you will make next. Everything about this, from the sets, the characters, the customs were top notch. The weathering on the pirates was spectacular, and I love how Tidmouth looks especially in its RWS shape and TVS painjob. The editing as well was astounding. Never once did I skip a scene, or was I ever bored. Always exntering. It was so achievable being simplistic, yet it blowed my mind. This was awesome. Love you Sam.
Just saw this now Will. I know you've already said all this to me in calls and in person and we've already had the reactions, but I wanna respond to this comment too because it means a great deal to me. Your compliments mean everything, thank you so much. Love you too Will.
But what happened to Gordon's signed portrait of his dad-- I mean Sir Nigel Gresley? Joking aside fantastic work: really fun to get a Salty origin story and it's great to see him co-star a special with Edward of all engines! Especially loved the moments with Duck outwitting both the big engines and Redrail's gang.
I'm only 16 minutes in and I already love this story,Salty's back story is a very interesting concept and the editing and custom making skills look fantastic, you've done a amazing job
This was incredible, one of my favorite Thomas fan productions ever. A compelling story, great original characters, and great gags that didn’t feel forced. As well with that twist ending which I won’t reveal. Also that D&D line at the end *chef kiss* encapsulates one of the many reasons I love the characters, what writing!
I was just commenting to my friends how much I missed your original content since...basically Old Souls in 2016. So, imagine my surprise to see this in my subscriptions! I was not disappointed. Every single character, every single scene, every single face, every single animation is perfect. Let's start with the faces - HOLY CRAP those digital faces scream emotion and fit every scene, not to mention elevate this to a whole different level. It's amazing to see how much you've gone from the old paper cutout face masks. I love how every character shines from James being the drama queen, Gordon and his pride, Duck being the smart aleck, Cranky genuinely caring about Salty, Edward bravely rising to the challenge, the villains being legitimately threatening and scary, and (of course) adding so much more layers to Salty's backstory. I am astounded by your drawn animation for the human characters. They look BRILLIANT. It shows how talented you are as an artist as much as a train modeler and writer. The story is so riveting and wonderfully paced. The witty, harsh dialogue slaps. Each beat hits just right, up until the very climax where I was floored. You took a lot of risks, and I think they paid off and then some. Oh, and that reveal at the end was so clever! All in all, this was a hell of a ride, Lemons. If you do more content like this in future, I will be elated. I truly missed seeing your extravagant work come to life like this.
Wow, thanks so so much Thomas, that means a great deal! All the specific character dynamics/traits you pointed out are so wonderful to hear, because they're all exactly what I was going for! Glad the faces are emotive, I try and put a LOT of emotion into them! And it means a great deal to hear the humans are up to snuff too. I had to cut some corners on them because there were SO many drawings to do, so I'm so glad they were good enough!! And all the storytelling compliments... Just, thank you thank you thank you. This fills me with confidence, so great to hear!
@@MasterOfTheLemons I know that I'm late to the party, but would it be possible for you to upload a step-by-step tutorial on how you did the faces? I think there's a lot of people here who would like to learn from the master. Either way, this was phenomenal.
Good show Lemmy! The faces and characters are very well done and it really brings the story alive! Certainly one of the finest fandom stories in a long while!
I love your series and was a bit sad when I saw it ended. I saw this floating around on twitter and I had high expectations, Lemmy's first film in 4 years! And it went above and beyond my expectations! The models, the voices, the faces, the soundtrack. All of it was perfect! I've already watched it three times since it came out! I can't wait for anything you do in the future!
I found this one random morning two years ago, this is so good, I remember I watched it over at least 3 or 4 times that week, probably more. I’m honestly not sure, why i like this story so much.
The humour in this is incredible and the characters are on point! This is honestly how I envisioned what a modern Thomas show would become and I loved every second of this video.
Nah she doesn't have one, I just made her design up on the fly! I'm quite fond of it though, glad you like her and the hench-diesels! They were a lot of fun to write for haha. If Red did have a basis, I imagine it would have been built in the early 60s around the same time as Salty's.
this was a really interesting story to see. The tone felt truly original whilst still paying homage to those from the series. I also really like the faces here, they're very expressive and original, not being a simple edit of a model face over the wooden.
This was so good Lemmy!!! Your writing is second to none. I love a deeper look into Salty’s past. I think being a part of railway pirates is appropriately fitting. I also love his relationship with Cranky and Edward in this cause it shows a side of Salty we’ve never really seen. I especially enjoyed how you brought Sailor John into this, very clever man.
Wow. What an adventure. Genuinely my favorite of your works. From start to end I was HEAVILY invested - I hope we see more things like this again in future!
This is amazing! I loved this so much. Glad it was that long. Great work! The faces and villains were great! Loved the editing! The voices And that unexpected person! Lastly great animation for the people and the engine faces! I always wanted to see a story about Salty's pirate life! And this was incredible
Can we give a round of applause for this awesome video, the sketches on the humans looks amazing and stands out from other creators and that’s awesome, the sets and story are also amazing, editing as well, i could go on and on to be honest. Great work lad!
im so sad that this has dislikes the love and camera work and the faces are incredible good job i love every second of this video i didn't skip a single part! And the customs for this are incredible good work!!!!
I'm so happy you did a whole story on Salty! I've always loved your takes on TTTE characters on the community channel's character gallery, and Salty's is one of my favorites. Thanks for making my hospital stay more enjoyable, I'm having a sleep study done. I hope you'll make more amazing visual stories or try your hand at writing!
Lemmy, this, this is amazing!!!! The way you worked Salty backstory, just everything!! My favorite part was when duck stopped the turn table and said "no you dont"
Thank you soo much, means the world to hear! Haha glad you liked that part, that's one of my favs as well! I always love when Duck gets a chance to show how cool he is haha.
I feel so bad for salty but I'm glad he stick to he's words and have he's heart in the right place and show those no good pirates what he can do salty is one of a kind of pirates.👍🏼
I just love everything about this. The comedy, the overall plot, how Edward reacts to the situation, how we get to see another side of Salty's character, and ofc the banter with the other engines, everything's so well put together here. Spot on Lemmy.
So many things I love about this video holy shit. You did such a spectacular job, mate! 1. SUCH a compelling story! AND SALTY LORE!! Tbh, I never cared about him that much; he just seemed like your generic rugged pirate lover. But this adds so much to him 2. THE PEOPLE ARE DRAWN!! And they're drawn so well too! I love that!! 3: The other characters' portrayals are SO good. Lemme just list a few of em off -EDWARD!!! AND HE PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM HERE -I love Cranky in this. He doesn't seem to care but really he DOES and that's awesome -Big Engine Gang banter!! -Goddammit James, you iconic bastard. lmao -Gordon absolutely has Gresley's picture on the wall. That is now canon and no one can change my mind -Okay they were only really featured at the end, but it makes complete sense that Don n Doug knew a lotta pirates back in the day. What if they had Scottish bar fights, except they were engine shed fights,, 4. Speaking of the end, I was completely not expecting Sailor John. But that makes so much fucking sense holy shit that was so clever
This was so well done lemmy ! I can’t tell you how much I missed your stories . I loved everything about this video , especially the customs . That ship at the docks was amazing ! Great job
Thanks so much, means a lot that you've missed my work, and means even more that you enjoyed this one! So glad you enjoyed the model work! As for the ship, I got him at a decor store years ago, he's called "The Alabama" and he's been a cherished member of my collection for a long time. Always liked that ship; he made a great backdrop for that shot, if I do say so myself!
Wow Lemmy, this was incredible! You haven’t lost a step at all in your video making, and this story perfectly shows that. You managed to capture my attention for the while 36 minutes without fail. I applaud you for such an interesting story, good work! Hopefully we can see more like this in the future from you!
14.50 Very clever wordplay there, bravo! Cute story! Great twist on the Salty character; he was one of my favourites way back when. Really liked the Hanna Barbera-esque humans too. Great job!
Y’know, I never had the time to watch this until today. (Sorry lemmy 😞) but I do today! And I must say, this is beautiful. The camera shots, the story, and the ART! HOLY SHIT THE ART IN THIS IS AMAZING! Lemmy your art is something I always smile too everytime I see it. Keep up the great work!!!
Well worth it in the end. No matter the style the one consistency is that you always tell a good story. The characters are so well written. I love how James forces his way into the circumstance and is equally as mad as the pirates in the end. Maybe the real pirates in our lives are the ones we least expect. Edward and Salty’s relationship is great but Salty and Cranky’s is even better. This episode proved how much Cranky cares about Salty and that he’ll put his life on the line, literally, for him. This deep dive into a shady past for Salty was amazing. Salty’s always spoken as a hardened engine with experience and this provides great insight on that. The pirates were great designs and even better. You balanced comedy and drama well in this story. Humor isn’t the first thing I think about with your work but Cranky, James, Gordon and even Edward had some great laughs. Loved the story and I can’t wait for many more.
Wow! That was amazing! Definitely, some of what was said in The Character Gallery about Salty shows up here! A good amount of comedy is thrown in as well. It was also a great touch to see their drivers be apprehended as well, pirates, be human or engine are held accountable for. Even if a certain sailor gets away. :-P James was freakin' hilarious. Would be impossible to ever rob something from him, his yelling would be heard for a mile 'round! Really enjoyed this, a nice surprise too! Although what happened to the gold? Hmmmm.
What a great video. I love how the faces were done and animated. The writing was fantastic and clever. The people being animated was also a great plus. Lots of work was put into this and it really shows!! Great job!!
Ok that was absolutely brilliant Everything was absolutely brilliant and even the picture of Sir Nigel Gresley and even when Red Rail just decided to take it anyways that was hilarious to me and when Duck just stopped the turntable was just so chill I flipping love this Also Red Rail has a really secured door with all of that
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked the Gresley picture joke and Duck stopping the table, those are two of my favorite moments in the whole thing haha. And yeah, Sailor John is VEEEEERY paranoid haha
Amazing story lemmy, it was an exciting adventure from start to finish, the models are amazing as always and sets, holy cow the sets are even better, the story, I just love the story, it was so good, i really liked the backstory you gave salty, not to mention the pirate oc’s, they look fantastic, especially red whale, it was amazing, fantastic work lemmy
OK I have a lot of things I want to say first off wow what an amazing what can you call this a special it was amazing I loved that you start salty in this it was absolutely amazing all of the characters were absolutely amazing the backstory for all of the like Pirates amazing I thought it was great and Edward was perfect for the role also I like to twist at the end with sailor John that was funny
This remains one of my absolute favorite Thomas fan videos even after two years of being released. Lemmy, you have such a deep understanding of these characters that I’ve seen in very few people and you’re able to make any dynamic between two or more characters seem so natural. Not to mention you can make a face value silly concept as “pirate trains” into something fairly realistic, fun to watch, and connected to the existing characters of the Brendam branch line. I know you said you’re done with telling stories using physical models, but good god I’m glad A Salty Story got told in this fashion. TL;DR: I enjoy the funny pirate train video
This story was amazing. The sets, the facial expressions and Salty's backstory. I love the idea of Salty faking his own death to get away from his pirate crowd. Also Donald and Douglas with wrinkles is amazing.
Thanks so so much, means a great deal! The "I faked my death" line is a fav of mine as well haha. Glad you liked the twins with wrinkles. I always picture them that way; makes them feel older and more world weary, which I think is fitting.
This is absolutely epic, the vilain red rail has a awesome and creative design. Everyone is in their character. James is an fashion icon. Salty's story is perfect and is perfectly executed. The length isn't to long or too short. The jokes were hilarious. I want more stuff like this. This was AWESOME 👏👏👏👏👏
I enjoyed all 36 minutes of this. This is truly a remarkably sensational piece of work by you Lemmy! The story genuinely felt like a short Brenner era special. The steps were wonderfully crafted, the human animation was stupendous and I loved the expressions on the engines faces! So I congratulate you so much! Well done. It was nice seeing some backstory to one of my favourite engines and the concept of the Red Rails gang was genius. I also loved the reveal of Sailor John at the end. Also, arguably one of the biggest highlights - Gordon’s signed Gresley poster. XD
I finally got round to seeing this and this was amazing! The pirate life story of Salty I’ve always wanted to see! Your animations, filming, storytelling, and music made it such an epic tale. Kinda gave me some Pirates of the Caribbean vibes too. Excellent reference with having John as the ringleader. Well done man!
