The kind of music we need in this day and age. It expresses the sufferings of the modern world, gives catharsis and yet also reaches beyond. Schnittke knew. Hearing this is like finding a brother you can talk to, with full honesty. A rare feeling. The same effect on me as a Dostoïevski novel.
More from the disgusting contemporary modernist scene. It isn't any wonder why I, and the rest of my generation (Gen Z), connects more with Rachmaninoff (his second piano concerto is trending on tik tok rn) than this. We will never need this type of music. Let the dissonance and atonality, and the intellectual exercises come to an end.
@@aidandavis7657 This concerto moves me to tears, friend. What can i say? there is nothing you can tell me that will make me stop loving this music. Rachmaninoff is good too. There is enough space in the world for different music. Atonal, tonal, noise, avant-garde, electronic, traditional, rock, metal, pop, you name it. There is an audience for it all. It expresses human diversity. Maybe this piece will reach you one day, maybe it won't. No big deal.
@@thefxbip315 Spoken with grace and dignity. The previous commentor seems more interested in making a fatuous political statement than in being open to the possibilities of art, or for that matter in having a civil conversation.
@@aidandavis7657 Yes, Rachmaninoff is great. I love him, too. That's good that he's "trending". And it is perfectly acceptable for anyone to dislike a piece of music out of personal taste. There are many modern composers that I have no taste for. But your specific hostility here has nothing to do with art and everything to do with silly and pompous political posturing. And of course more people would understand Rachmaninoff than Schnittke, just as more people like Rhiannon than Rachmaninoff. As a commentary on art, none of that means anything. Uncalled for nasty and idiotic comment on your part, sir.
It's a great soundtrack for 2020-22'+...:: The dynamics and brooding and fretting and curious dissonances; Schnittke seems quite prescient..?!?? Really though, how did you perform this from memory?...🤔😂😅 Wow.❤
Mesmerizing. Passionate and precise. Poetic but also fierce and vigourous. Beautiful sound from the orchestra and the pianist. Rich strings sound that cuts like razor but somehow envelops the mind. Bravo.
I am familiar with Ewa Kupiec's version (with Frank Strobel conducting the Berlin Radio Orchestra) but I find Kosmieja's version very deep and moving. The orchestra is very "thin" and dissonant which, I believe, is Schnittke's intent. The result is a very special and very precious interpretation of this beautiful concerto... Thanks for posting !
very good version. Greetings to all from Argentina. From minute 8 on, it has a musical air to the tango of Buenos Aires of the XXI century. Very good musical work
Adam Kosmeija, thank you for your magnificent interpretation of that avantgarde piece of musical genius. I believe Alfred Schnittke will be delighted in heaven. So, I am.Greetings from Bulgaria/Belarus.
W końcu zdałem sobie sprawę, jak powinien brzmieć ten koncert! Nie rozumiałem niektórych momentach. Doskonałe wykonanie! Uwielbiam ten koncert Schnittke i koncert Górecki. Dwa z moich ulubionych koncertu!
There used to be a video with the piano playing being spot on. The performance was incredibly interesting with the pianist languishing and falling into the piano. Anyone happen to know to which performance i refer and where that video might be? This performance (the one we re listening to) is spot on and remarkable for the pianists interpretation being similarly demonstrative WITHOUT the physical gesticulation - also much appreciated.
I do not believe the sounds that Schnittke extracts from the instruments be it the piano or the strings, I know he was a follower of Shostakovich in the start but after meeting with Nono he converted to an avant-guard and god what a wonderful composer he became, much deeper than where he was in the beginning, Just listen to his requiem and you will believe it in your mind and heart.
