@@charlesmomanWe started like most people researching Dometic. Then subscribers on our channel started suggesting more affordable options. We ended up going with the ICECO GO 20 just like you. They reached out to us to test one of their larger coolers. We loved the idea, but found the GO 20 to be a better fit for our lifestyle. They were really generous and were completely fine having us use the GO20.

It is all we will probably ever need. If we end up using the roof solar a lot, I may add a hole in the front and run the wires inside permanently, but I doubt it. With the little use I expect, I would rather have the solar cords stored out of the way in the storage box on the front rack. Thanks for watching.

Helpful tip for you. Buy a small inverter for your truck. Plug the wall charger for the Jackery into the inverter in the truck. Now you can charge at 81w instead of the 42w the 12v dc plug gets you. Twice as fast charging while driving.

You don't need an inverter to charge you can directly charge from your vehicle there is a video where the guy removed the need to use solar. You charge while you drive. But keep the solar so you be ready if the power goes off when on the road and at home. I think the setup has a charge controller to do LiFePO4 batteries. 73

I think it might be better if you have strong hinges bolted on both under sides of the solar panel so that you can unlock either side so that you can tilt the solar panel toward the sun for max reception when you are parked. I tried two panels on the roof of my van, but with them flat on the roof I was not getting the best angle to receive the strongest sun rays. The Sun has to hit my panels straight-on to receive the most sun onto my 100 watt panels at peak hours of the day. Flat, I was only able to get 15 to 20 watt input to my Yeti 400. But then I realized that I was not going to park my van in the sun. And even if I did I could not angle the panels toward the sun. So if I put them on top of my van I would need a way to safely angle them toward the sun depending on with direction I was driving east or west so that I could tilt them toward the South to make using them worth the effort. Driving around I suppose you would just be happy with getting what you could get, and then use the light weight panels that you have to point toward the sun when you could keep an eye on them. I foolishly thought I could keep my yeti topped-off driving around town living in the city.
@charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 4 года назад
I thought about that - I already bought hinges and a kit from Renogy, but in all honesty, I will rarely need to worry about it. With charging while driving, shore power at most places and the Jackery portable panel, I will be fine. We have zero interest in off-road camping, or BLM, etc. Just now and then at a Cracker Barrel and then at national parks.You see almost everyone put their panels flat on every van build and I hope they are not too dependent on solar or they will be hurting. Even skoolies with lots of panels will not gather solar well with them all flat Thanks for your thoughts and for watching. Blessings!.

When it's really hot (even in the shade) I put my battery in a cheap styrofoam cooler with a block of frozen blue ice and a hole cut for the display and controls. Battery stays room temp. Good choice on the 500. Less power is not quite enough to use a refrigerator for 3 days and 2 nights. I use an OKPro 540 plugged into a Zoombros 330w - 870 watts plus active solar charging. The OK has regulated 12 volt, but anyone can get regulated output by using a converter to change their AC to DC. The 12 volt output will be regulated. I tested one with my Rockpals 300W.

No - not the AC fan. We recently added a MaxxAir 10-speed reversible 12v roof fan and a MaxxAir passive vent in our camper. Look for that video here on my channel. That will work MUCH better than running the AC fan. Our new setup will really draw air through better than the AC fan, plus the AC fan is not 12v and would eat more power than the MAxxAir fan.

We have a 280 watt from RockPals. At first it was perfect, then we started adding too many new electronics because of the novelty of it all, but this year we got a hundred watt foldable solar panel from Rock Pals to pair with it. It recharges the entire 280-W solar generator in about 6 hours. So basically with the power consumption we have out there with the solar panel and the generator combined we have endless power. We completely agree with Charles in that these little jackery and rock pals generators paired with a solar panel is about all you need out there. We have a little Pelonis ceramic heater and it just pulls too much power for a 500w lithium. They make smaller heaters, but we now have a 12v mattress pad that does it for us. We do not do a lot of cold weather camping and if we do we usually have shore power, so we can run the heater. We sleep on an unheated porch year round, so we are used to sleeping cold - with lots of blankets and sometimes an electric blanket - at least for my wife. I'm curious why you didn't just cut a hole in the roof for the fixed solar panel wiring? You could seal that up, have the wiring all protected inside, and would not have to mess with the cap system like you have on the underside.
@charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 4 года назад
That is certainly an option and I may actually do that or have the wires come in one of the waterproof receptacle boxes on the front of the camper. A friend of mine did just the recently and I considered doping that, but opted for just a small hole underneath. I honestly do not expect to use either solar panel all that much - maybe only at national parks and this way the cords at stored out of the way in the storage boxes on the front rack. Time will tell if we end up using the solar more than I now expect. We are headed to RMNP this summer for a week and may use it there, though got by with just the Jackery 160 last summer there and in Utah. Our ARB awning has a 12v LED light strip cord that come in underneath or in a new hole on the front. Choices! : ) Thanks for watching.

Hello Everyone. I have a question. I have a B&D 750W 6.52amps inverter model PI750AB. For the most part it works perfectly. But I'm experimenting with using it with a smaller battery in my chicken coops when needed. I have it hooked up to a GT12080-HG 12v 8ah battery. I can run a fan, laptop radio etc no problem. But when I plug in a 200w heat lamp the inverter goes yellow and cuts the power. The battery is fully charged. Why is a 750watt inverter shutting down when plugging in a 200watt heat lamp??? Any ideas?

It’s been so long since I did that, I really don’t remember. I just went into Home Depot and look through the plastic parts and grab what I thought would fit. sorry. @charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 4 года назад
Like just about any modern electronic device, leaving it plugged in does no harm. I have left a Jackery plugged overnight and no problem. You might look at my recent review of the Ecoflow Delta 1300. It has almost triple the power of the Jackery, and yes it is more expensive, but it can recharge from zero in less than two hours. The Jackery takes so much longer. Ecoflow is coming out with a smaller version - R600 - that still has the fast recharge technology. I’m switching my entire system over to Ecoflow. I’m also just about to announce here on my channel, a Ford transit van build I will be beginning in a few weeks and I think you might find it interesting. You might subscribe so that you can keep up with it. It will be a 4 to 6 month van build and we will still use our Runaway camper. I’m pretty excited about it. @charlesmoman
@charlesmoman 4 года назад
It will definitely charge fast with a car charger and I should have included this info. To charge even faster in a car, get an inverter (some cars have an AC outlet in them already) and then you can use the Jackery wall charger - like at home. That will send more juice to the Jackery like you are charging at home. I would suggest a Bestek - I found these two on Amazon and they are similar, but the more expensive one (not really too much $$ anyway) is more powerful. 300 watt Bestek ($29.99) - amzn.to/2XE4jFe. &500w Bestek ($39.99) - amzn.to/3dglvH9. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Earl Gilbert I considered using those, but I am rarely going to use that roof solar panel. I opted to just have it set up for temporary use and have the cables out of the way. I’ve already cut 2 - 14 inch holes in the roof and a couple in the front and one in the floor. I think I’m done cutting holes. If this was a heavy duty solar using camping situation, I would consider something like that. But it’s not, so the way I have it is nice and easy and neat for me. Thanks for watching.

Maybe for a very short time. Very. Short. Running a 5,000 BTU AC with a portable lithium battery pack is the pipe dream many have. Even a Jackery 1000 would not run it all night. They make lower power AC units that would help, but you still would have a depleted lithium battery that would take a long time to recharge. To run an AC every day via lithiums, would take a LOT of them and a LOT of solar panels. Today I am receiving an Ecoflow Delta 1,300w lithium battery pack to test out and do a video on. I think it would run an AC for part of a night or maybe more if the temp setting was on very low cool and it was a low wattage unit. At least with this Ecoflow you can recharge it 10 times faster than all of the other lithiums like the Jackery. From 0% to 100% in less than 2 hours via a wall outlet. Watch my portable power seminar videos and Timmy explains all of this well.

I just got an Ecoflow Delta 1300 and it ran my AC for 7 hours at low cool just fine. It recharged from 0% to 100% in 1:42! It could be run after day as long as you can get to an AC outlet or have 400 watts of solar and a perfect sunny day or plug it into a gas generator. Folks could just stop at a place in town and ask to plug in - there is always a way.
