Personally, I don’t mind whether the watch is simple or complicated. The joy of watching your videos is the explanation of your expertise in spotting then dealing with problems when they arise. I am in awe of your effortless grasp of the tiny little problems that you spot and then correct that make me admire the skill of a true craftsman at work. I do believe that mechanical watches are miracles of engineering and you, Sir, perform miracles in your simpatico understanding of them.

I agree...the stories and descriptions are wonderful. I have a fondness for classics especially pocket watches from the old days. A lot of these new watches with 1000s of movements and parts don't really hit me like a classic Rolex or a Geneva

Hi Stian: It doesn't matter to me whether the watch is complicated or simple, because what I enjoy so much is your informative and educational commentary about how the watch works, what the parts do, what problems you find as you work on the watch, and how you resolve those problems (especially when you explain how you carry out a "repair" on a part). So this video was very enjoyable because of your thoughtful explanations of the burnishing process and adjusting the endshake.

I enjoy the simple ones also, maybe with day/date complication. For now it's about accessibility---the more complications, the higher the price maybe. Of course, even simple high end watches have high price tags, but since I'm scrounging low end watches right now the more simple ones you restore/service, the more content I have to learn from. But I pretty much watch all your videos anyway.

To answer Your question, Stian: I'm happy to see elegant technical solutions to whatever problem. So I'm absolutely fine with a "simple" mechanism like this one. What intrigued me most, actually, was that they took the effort to put an anglage on the bridges and even give the movement faux chatons. Who would do this nowadays? However, I have enjoyed watching You work on more intricate complications as well and I understood them better afterwards. So just keep doing Your thing and share the projects that show something special, be it cheap or expensive, simple or complicated.

I guess it's time to confess that I'm not actually that much of a watch guy. I don't have favorite brands (in that I favor one over others) and I'm not a purist (in that I don't prefer mechanical watches over quartz). I do, however, have a love for beautiful things, watching things work, hearing about how and why they work, but mostly I love to watch and listen to skilled professionals work their trade. First, Stian, let me say that I throughly enjoy your RU-vid channel. It is an absolute delight! Second, your name is not strange to me, as I have a very close friend with that same name. Then, I want you to know that my ancestry is primarily Norsk. Finally, I very much like this particular repair. Simplicity is good for me. I wound up being a Lutheran Pastor, but I nearly when to watch makers school in 1970 (that tells you how old I am!). But I did not (though many days I wish I had). Today, I am a bit too old to do much work on watches due to my age and steadiness of hands. However, I live vicariously through your videos! I have a small (unimpressive) collection of watches, but I watch with envy (sin) the work you do and the watches you make come to life! So, keep doing what you are doing, I look forward to each episode I view. And, in the end, I love your wonderful Norwegian brogue, I think you must have wonderful kids, and I think your spouse must be a saint!

Thanks so much, that's very nice to hear :) God works in mysterious ways and so do watches sometimes! Watch repair is a hobby you can pick up even at a mature age. I also have issues with shaking hands, but there are techniques that help you steady them.

The debris in the chaton looked like a bit of brass plating or gilding that flaked off from somewhere. It's a great example of the importance of close inspection. It's obviously what caused the odd wear on that one pivot, but would also be easy to miss unless you looked for it.

Thanks! :) The clip of the debris wasn't very high quality, but the debris probably wasn't metal but seemed fibrous. Thus very odd to find but certainly adding to the problems of the watch.
