I just found you when you met up with Madeleine Olivia who I have been following for a little while. Yes, it's small but very cozy. I grew up in NE England but have been in the US since our family emigrated here in 1967. Of course I love everything 'England' and I try to give an English feel to my home and garden. It would be a dream to live in a traditional English cottage.

I think it’s time to move the television above your mantle and install built-in shelving flanking said mantle to bring more balance and cohesiveness to your space. A simple suggestion for your consideration. ❤️
Hi Jess, I'm in a really similar situation to you. Living alone in a country cottage in England, also renting. You're my absolute inspiration & my favourite person to watch on youtube. Because I can relate to you so much. Have struggled with my mental health and self-esteem, ending of long relationship. Having to make it on your own later in life. I am 28, so only a couple years younger than you, but I look up to you so much. I especially appreciate how honest and candid you are on here as it makes me feel like I am not going through this alone and I have a friend. I also love your style for clothing and your home & have borrowed many of your ideas into mine to make my home a bit nicer. I always get hooked on things you have and want them and then follow the link and think bloody hell, how can she afford that?! haha. I am currently desperate to decorate my house, but with only one income I am struggling with money massively. Just wondered how you managed financially living alone? I work in the NHS, which we all know pays rubbish, but you're self-employed I would love to know how you keep on top of your finances now you're living on one income. I would incorporate everything in front of the couch in my own house, if I could. It looks so cozy. I’m not sure about the color of the couch though. My dream is to stay one day in a typical English cottage somewhere in England or Scotland 😍.

Lovely job. These are what I’d do as well😄box in the radiator as a beautiful feature or paint it to blend in, cover the tv with a beautiful linen cloth (hate that stark black box look), and more cushions 🤩🧚♀️✨

The room looks lovely! This is the most trivial thing ever, LOL, but I would try pairing up those candles on one side of the mantle, placing them a little closer to the centre, and then adding another small piece or even a couple of pretty books to balance them on the other side. The candles are so pretty, and I think they look a little lost at the moment and that they would have more impact if they were paired up. Don't you just love armchair critics? Seriously though, the room is beautiful and you've done a fabulous job of making it your own.

Loved it. I’d put the telly on the wall to free up the corner a little more, but maybe that interferes with the actual view onto the telly if you’re in the room. I live in Europe and here it’s completely normal to do up and renovate rented places. Good fun and yours looks lovely 💓

It’s a subtle, but definitely a significant change. :) Love what you said about creating a beautiful living space being an emotional process. I lived for many years in a rental and couldn’t call that space mine, it always felt off and by the time of pandemic it felt almost suffocating. Only when I moved into my own apartment and started the process of renovating and decorating I had that sense of relief and belonging to a place. Your place looks so personal and so “you”. 💕 it shows that you’re ready, as you said, to take care do yourself and nurture yourself again. I hope the house and its ambience will help you get over-the-rooftop kind of self-esteem! 😊

I think the TV cabinet takes away from the bookstore. It should be a lighter and white piece of furniture. And I also think that the fireplace would be more beautiful with a frame. so it is too rustic for your sensitive and fresh style! They are just ideas with all my heart. take care of yourself !!

Looks fab, love your chair, can you share the brand ? Personally I think you could get rid of the tv, it would open up the space a lot and you can watch everything these days on a laptop. Just my opinion x

Hi Jessica, I love the cottage and your style I live in an old terraced cottage. The little picture you said belonged to your grandparents is facing a window and I am concerned that the light will fade it as I know it’s not recommended for pictures and photos to be opposite sun light. Heather

The colour scheme is so calming and stylish, and the pink sofa against it all is perfect! 💕👌🏻 I am wondering about something though, and ONLY because I have recently moved and am constantly, obsessively rejigging layouts in my mind, and NOT to criticise your choices at all! 🙌🏻 What if you swapped the TV unit for the mirror in the room where the stairs is? And put the TV (please don't hate me 🙏🏻🙏🏻) on the wall over the fireplace (I KNOW, and I'm so sorry🤣) Your adored books would have a chance to shine, and that beautiful piece of furniture would still be a feature too, just from another angle. (again, so, SO sorry about suggesting mounting the TV over the fireplace, but it might actually minimise the impact of it because the books would have their space to shine ✨✨✨) Really love what you have done with your home, and love that you're making it yours! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 💕😘
