I keep my compost in the freezer :) you can get a small bin with lid or what I do is buy a box of small compost bags. I fill this bag and twist it closed after each time I add to it. When it’s full I put it out in the big compost bin (in the bag) no mess, no thawing necessary! :)
I don’t have a Junk Drawer. I have a well curated Miscellaneous Drawer containing things that are actually necessary to own and must be kept handy but have no other logical home. I wish I could manage the rest of my house as well as I do that drawer 😂.
I’ve marie kondowed my whole house 3 yrs ago but the kitchen is the most difficult to keep on top of. After seeing your lovely video I am inspired to go through the cupboards again and be ruthless. Oooh how I will love the results later on☺️

I have decided to re-visit this vlog as I really want to simplify the contents in my kitchen and remembered loving the calm, beautiful space you have created. I am constantly trying to solve not having much storage space but I am just realising I have to simplify and be ruthless. Ok - here goes 😘
We had a very large kitchen with a lot of cupboards in the house we’ve just sold. So yes, I had a lot of stuff in my kitchen. Now living in a rental( waiting to our new home is built) with a very tiny kitchen, I had to get rid of things because my new kitchen will be small too. I think that more of 70% was giving away or went to the second hand shop. Now using only the things we use it feels soooooo good. There are still some boxes on the attic, so I have to go through my stuff again haha. Love your kitchen especially the shelves. And oh, how I regret you we’re not filming the decluttering, it would have been very realistic.🥰
By sheer coincidence I was staring in the cupboard at my fancy dinner set that I never use as you mentioned yours, and I feel so called out right now lol.
We live in Brooklyn and got a small metal trash bin to put our compost in the freezer. The metal won’t crack from the cold, and it’s big enough to only have to take out 1-2 times per week... and we avoid smell and worst of all in nyc- pest problems!
Lovely kitchen! In Japan we kept our food scraps in the freezer because for nearly 6 months of the year it’s either super humid or over 30degreeC so it’s to prevent smells & space was also an issue in my teeny tiny flat...

🤣 I totally understand, there was a lot of arguing going on when my husband and I remodeled our kitchen. It's Just sooo stressful. But in the end it was all worth it, it looks great AND....... We are still married 😉
ha ha testing times. He thinks I'm a total control freak and his lack of any structure drives me mad. It's those shared spaces that are the most testing for sure.
Your kitchen is so cosy. I can't wait to go charity/antique shop shopping. I have a year old modern white kitchen but I would like a kitchen where I feel like I don't have to put everyhting away ALL the time. I am a good few years away from replacing the kitchen I have now but I am planning already LOL. Thank you for sharing your lovely kitchen. The peelings in the freezer is for flats etc who don't have compost bins so they are taken in a compost site once a week this is outside UK. Remember you can cook peelings that have been frozen to make veg stock.

No, you don't defrost it, just dump it in the compost pick-up bin. We keep it in a plastic dish tub in the freezer, then it doesn't smell and attract bugs!
Idk if you’re gonna see this but my mom and I used to keep compost in the freezer in this storage container that was deep maybe like a gallon deep? (Idk if that makes sense I hope it does) lined with a biodegradable compost bag and at the end of the week we’d drop it off no need to defrost it’ll do it on it’s own
I love how you have maximised your space and I agree that you don't need to hide everything (unless really ugly) and it's handy being able to have quick access to your jars. We have a Sage Barista touch on our countertop, which is our most used item (more so than the microwave/stove, ha!) our huge challenge is keeping our counters clear. They seem to be a magnet for everything from keys to suncream and leaflets etc. Can you recommend any UK sites for pretty storage containers and trays? I recently purchased some Muji containers for our spices for inside the cupboards and while they're useful, I'm not a fan of the plastic and would prefer some nice wire baskets/non-plastic trays. I put my compost in the freezer 🤷 it's just a little thing of Tupperware that I take out frequently. I live alone so my compost pile stays p manageable

Most Koreans seem to put their food waste in the freezer, but that's for the sole reason that their recycling is very strict and to ensure that there won't be any foul smells etc. They simply put it in a plastic bag in the freezer until it's time to recycle it. Don't fully know how it is in Japan but I know some areas have extreme recycling, so I can see it being used the same especially if living in a flat. So I don't think it applies to your case. :) Such a cute kitchen, me and my husband are looking into buying a cottage, we've found one we're absolutely in love with and the kitchen is small etc so my mind is going all over the place of what I could do if we do buy the house (who knows what will happen during times like this eh).
Having lived in Japan, their recycling is about standard of other well-off countries, but they are extreme at sorting their rubbish. That’s because most of it is incinerated, but “burnable” trash is incinerated at a different temperature than plastic rubbish, hence the extreme sorting...
Love it! Your kitchen it my dream! Very beautiful. Are those all the pots you have? Which plant is the one behind you? English ivy or chain of hearts? It’s beautiful! I love the shelves and the cottage look and would love to create that when we have a house. We are currently in an apartment and we have no say haha. I have created a wall of shelves to store flours and beans and dry things because I purchase in bulk and also I think it look lovely. I have a shelf of books that I could honestly eliminate as it is taking over the shelf. I really love having everything visible. We have had a cleaning of chopping boards and cheese boards and we eliminated quite a few. I was fed up with the amount of space it was taking and I wasn’t using all them! How can you?? If only I was an octopus then I could chop so many things and then I would need more boards. 😹 I find we have a weakness for mugs and cups. That is definitely an area husband and I could work on. We love coffee and love diner mugs and have collected few from different shops, we have a lot now and think we could donate a few that we don’t like the design of. We will see if husband cooperates. Love your tours! I am quite nosy of your home and would like to open every drawer. 😳😹🤥

I love having everything visible too, I feel like it says... come on in and help yourself. It can feel so sterile so quickly when you have less stuff so it's nice to display it all. OMG I love a mug, I could easily have shelves full of them even though I know I'd never use them. We all have our thing x

I know it's quite often the case for people in NYC apartments to put their veggie scraps in the freezer and then when they have a bag full they take to a communal composing point. I'm assuming these people don't cook at home much because I would run out of space after a couple of days!!
yeah I just watched the trash is for tossers vid and it helped me get my head around it. We fill up the biodegradable bags every other day and the council collect them every week. Might see if I can talk J into at least giving it a try to see how it works for us. He thinks it's disgusting lol.

And your garden is so lovely, it's such a lovely spot for a cup of coffee and nice book in the afternoon :) ... But I am not sure about this idea with putting compost in freezer. I cook every day, and use a lot of vegetables and fruits, which produce a lot of compost. And that would mean that if I wanted to keep the compost in my freezer , I would need to open it something like 6-8 times a day, and that would waste so much energy ( I randomly found the following data " The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida says that being careless with opening and closing your fridge door wastes 50 to 120kWh a year. To put that into perspective, 50kWh of energy could run your dishwasher 20 times and 100kWh could run your washing machine 50 times - almost a free load of laundry every week for an entire year"). So, I really believe that having good old compost bin on the counter (especially the pretty one like the one you've got), which is emptied and cleaned regularly is much better option . X
@@JessicaRoseWilliams lol, I can sort of understand, waste=gross but it's not like putting the contents of your dustbin into the freezer! My parents just put everything in the one bin and I think that's kind of gross 😂 I guess it's what we get used to. Good luck!

I do! The white tray in the window was the wash station I talked about but it's perfect for leaky oil bottles and the salt/pepper mills. That copper tray is house doctor from Trouva x
Does the open shelves by the range get greasy? I would love to have them on my kitchen which we are renovating this summer, but I'm afraid that they would be impossible to clean.
