Hi friends, you are on the Made Simple channel. Here I make very simple, understandable and affordable projects that anyone can repeat with a minimal set of tools. And of course, all projects will be useful and will please you and your loved ones.
In this video, I make an interesting product from the simplest building boards that you can buy in an ordinary store, no preprocessing on the planer and planer, just as you like from the store. Frankly, at the end I polished the product a little)
Projects and plans will be published in this group:
/ ivancrazyworkshop
Subscribe to the channel, there is a lot of interesting things ahead!

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ru-vid.comUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I like this design. I haven’t done much with dowels and this project will get me going. Also, to build this a minimum of tools is needed. Saw, drill, dowel jig. The edges on the boards could be eased with a sandpaper block, don’t even need a router. A very elegant design.

A drill is something I bought years ago as you need it over and over. I also bought a dowel jig for 15 Euro last year. Sure it is not as nice as the one in the video, but it will work just fine. I don't have a router, so yes I give you that, bit have done similar works (putting a chamfer on boards) just using sandpaper and a piece of wood as a sanding block. I also started woodworking just at the end of last year. So I am also not a senior in this. And if you go with pine wood which is used in the video the wood for this won't cost much. Also you can try to rather check lumberyards, instead of a hardware store. Might be cheaper or at least better quality. Of course this depends on your country of residence

Stack up straight dimensional lumber to get close, then wedge the glued pieces in with wedges driven in tight enough for gluing. The whole thing was coated in wax to prevent gluing the pieces to the top. I now have three or four smaller ones for small glue-ups. @MRing1107
@MRing1107 4 года назад
@@barpluc3977 I think the point about the lumber was the video title says ordinary, but it's not just regular #2 or whatever. It's one of the nicer appearance boards. Looks like 1x4? That can still be found at Lowes, etc, but if we were looking at 2x4s you'd have to either spend an hour digging through the garbage lumber or go to a real lumber yard (and I don't even mean an 84 Lumber), or you have to bring out the kind of gear beginners wouldn't have, like a planer. It's a fair knock against a lot of "beginner" RU-vid videos that are along the lines of "look at this beautiful table we made with simple 2x4s!" Then they show these beautifully clear, twist, cup and wane-free S4S boards you just won't find at Home Depot.
@barpluc3977
@barpluc3977 4 года назад
@@MRing1107 That is completely inaccurate. Lowe's Home Depot, Steins, Riters, nearly ANY lumber yard that carried 2x4's will carry 1x4's and all of those also carry select pine 1x4's. Two minutes selecting through the pile of #2 1x4's can produce MORE than enough lumber for this tiny table. And if the lumber has a little twist or a little cup, what of it, its a beginner project, NO ONE including the beginner should expect furniture store quality results, hell the beginner shouldn't even expect results similar to the video, he's a BEGINNER. This IS a beginner video, that someone BEGINNING to work with wood AND intending to keep doing so. It is NOT a video for people who want things handed to them on a platter, who want to walk into a lumber store and have perfect lumber handed to them. NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING in this video is extra-ordinary, NOTHING is beyond anyone who can cut a semi-straight line with a handsaw. I have a similar table I built in the sixth grade (60 years ago) with a handsaw, nails,hide glue, and old cutoffs from barn build. The joinery is a little different but its about the same size. It was TRULY a beginner project. If you want a step-by-stepin depth instructional video that takes you from lumber selection at a big box store to marketable projects, there are dozens of those out there, go find one of those. Or you can just bitch about this video doesn't match your unreasonable expectations..

"Beginner" is such an ambiguous term. Personally I think that beginner projects shouldn't use any fasteners beyond glue and nails, and should be accessible to kids under 10. However this is a fine first project for a teen or adult who has no shop experience. It's simple enough to understand and requires minimal tools. A saw, drill, sandpaper, glue and dowels. Simple tools easily learned.

This is cool, but not exactly the simplest project. Can you share a link to the dowel hole tool that you used? Also, where did you buy the dowels? Can you get them at Home Depot or Lowe's?

How long did you have to let the wood sit out and dry before you started?

Everything he did could he done with hand tools. It will take significantly longer of course.

He only used basic things. The router which if you get a corded handheld one is about $60. Other than that. Everything else is presumed you'd already own. But honestly that step isn't required. It just softens the edges.....drill,hammer,square,dowels,wood glue,pencil, level, tape measure, and clamps.
