A SKINFUL of Cheap BOOZE in WetherSPOONS and a Dirty DONER KEBAB - The Best in Britain! 

I stand corrected!!! The Courthouse is NOT a Spoons apparently. I'm sure it used to be though? Anyone know?

I think anyone in their late 40's and early 50's experienced the absolute pinnacle of nights out... Back then, even small towns of 30k to 40k had tons of pubs and even a good selection of nightclubs and were jam packed with amazing atmospheres 3 or 4 nights a week... Those days will never be repeated and gone forever so I cherish those memories, even the drunken kebabs lol.

Unfortunately normal pub prices are a joke , take my family to spoons for dinner costs £40 with 2 rounds of drinks for 5 of us . In a normal pub it’s £25 for one round of drinks , costs over £90-100 for food as well. And 9 times out of 10 the food is crap in the pub too.

Food always tastes good after a skinful. Only problem is, what is left you occasionally wake up with it left on your stomach!

wethersoons are good and they cater for everyone i have been in many wetherspoons but give me a proper local traditional pub any day of the week i would rather pay more for a more traditional local brewed pint and drink less

It's always depressing to see old pubs close (or turn into so-called 'trendy' boozers). The only way they'll stay open is if the public frequent them! It's no good them complaining when they're gone... it's too late then. I definitely pop into Wetherspoons when out and about, but NEVER frequent it as my preferred local (if that makes sense). The less money you pay for a pint, the cheaper people you get (obviously this is a massive generalisation, and there's a fine line there between paying through the nose, and paying peanuts). Wetherspoons definitely serves a purpose, but it's becomming a little like fast-food chains (everywhere). Pop into a Wetherspoons... but frequent your local, and support them.

No love for Tim Martin or Wetherspoons at all. As someone who has had close friends work for them up until recently - they do not care about their staff. Not only that but as you mentioned, they force proper, independent local free houses and bars out of business by monopolising areas and aiding the failing high streets. The independents deserve the love and care far more, across all areas of service or hospitality. Loving these videos and hoping your health is on the mend soon, Lee! Sweet chilli simply doesn’t belong on a doner kebab, it’s for Asian food. Not controversial but plain wrong!

Another great video mate. Only thing I’d change with the kebab is the sauce. I can’t stand any sort of Mayo so would change it for either sweet or hot chilli sauce instead. Looked great though so I’ll give it a 9/10. As for Wetherspoons, it is correct that it was untrue that they sacked employees during the pandemic. I’ve spoken to a number of Wetherspoons staff where we live and they’ve personally told me that all the reports during that time were completely false and taken completely out of context. I like Spoons. It’s cheap and cheerful and you can’t go far wrong with them to be honest. Especially if you’re on a budget. Thanks for reviewing mate as always👍🏻

Lee i'm sure the thing that killed most pubs was the smoking ban, there were a lot of pubs closing down well before Wetherspoons came on the scene.

At start you suggested confusion between donner and doner , please be careful if you carry a card , one donates organs to the NHS the other will see your internals revolving on a spit in kebab shop window .

Great video. And yes to review a donner kebab. One must indulge in a beverage. Kebab looked amazing. I think when I was a young un I used to get plastered and then get a kebab and try to eat it on my way home whilst I was singing one voice singing in the darkness. I'd wake up the next morning and thered be chilli sauce on my shirt. Thank you for today's vlog brought back memories and a reminder of just how much I miss the old kebab. Lee I give it a 100 !!!!! I think if I gave it 10 I would be underscoring it.

well done mate for going out in the week on your own to a Wetherspoons. i do it quite regular and noticed there are a lot of people going there on there own as well. cheap beer and people watching. cant fault it.

Since you mentioned reviewing your old stomping ground, I been looking forward to this review. I expected it to be a grimy little kebab shop tucked away up some back alley. The place looked very clean, nice building and the food looked on point. Especially with the chilli's in the salad. 10 from me Lee. That's before your score.

Weatjerspoons have a lot to answer for. My dad had a pub in the nineties in Leicestershire, the spoons opened up in the same town and boooom, loads of pubs shut down including my dads, they was selling beer cheaper than my dad could buy it

I was just reading earlier that one of the tricks that ‘Spoons uses is to ask you (when ordering a short) ‘DOUBLE or single?’ (Always DOUBLE first as that is more likely to make you order a double!) Isn’t the human brain a complicated yet susceptible thing! Plus, a double Jameson’s is acceptable ☺️👍🏻

10 for the Kebab and this episode, very enjoyable, most of us can relate to the "take-away" after the night out on the town...had giant burgers, pizzas and other fare. Its strange to see a decent looking pub now closed in the land of the pubs. "Spoons" must have had an impact on that place. $1.99 for a pint is great value for money and independents can't match those prices. Hopefully someone watching this will see an opportunity with that property

I can get a pint of ruddles for 99p in wetherspoons as a CAMRA member get 50p off a pint of ale or cider. I think having 4 or 5 wetherspoons in Mansfield would be the reason the old school pubs are closing. My town doesn't have one for miles around it and pubs are doing fine and not shutting up. Kebab looked a 8/10 as don't do salad lol oh and why does doner meat go cold very quickly?

Wow Mansfield looked a bit like a ghost town, even for a Tuesday, sad to see small independent pubs struggling but not surprising, kebab looked amazing.

I don't drink alcohol, however I enjoyed this video featuring Bodrum Kebab House, a proper Turkish Restaurant!!! The quality lamb döner looked so tasty stuffed in the pitta bread with the fresh crispy side salad. Yeah as DJ would say definitely " off the charts"👍👌😊

Bodrum kebab place, it was too clean, too nice, too shiny, you needed to go to a place where the window was cracked with tape covering it, no hygiene rating showing, so we know it's a one, and If you want to sit in, then it's the window ledge haha

Hi Lee Where I come from a place called Pensett in the West Midlands 18 pubs have closed over the years and no Wetherspoons in Pensnett. Obviously Wetherspoons are doing something right. So many pubs have closed not just in England also Scotland and Wales.

I sometimes go to Wetherspoons in the day for a few pints of real ale, I prefer it when it's quiter....if I'm alone I have my phone, Wetherspoons News to read and maybe a paper, well practiced! I usually eat in the Wetherspoons I find the food pretty good for the price. I also like the fact that the atmosphere in spoons is fairly laid back, if you are sensible you can still go in there to drink quite a few pints and the staff won't mind. In a lot of food led 'gastropubs' they seem to have lost sight of the fact that a pub can be for drinks only, the staff often get a bit funny if you order more than about two pints without food!

As you know I really miss a Mansfield brew sadly so many midland breweries folding or being monopolised ... Best Kebab I had was after a Nottingham University " Campus 14 " if you know what that was .....

The kebab looked excellent and I would agree with the 10. Your taste in ale? I don't know anyone who would even consider John Smiths a drinkable pint! The first pint, was it Worthingtons? well I have heard of it but never seen it for sale, not a name I have ever heard associated with quality! Oh and Wetherspoons- I love the low prices, I love the reasonable food at the prices they charge, I like the lack of big screen TVs belting out sport and adverts. However in some ways they are like a disease, once a Wetherspoons infects your town, you just know that other pubs cannot afford to compete and often end up shutting down, so apart from the Wetherspoons, most other pubs in the vicinity soon die out. I miss little back street pubs!

Perfection, Spoons, Worthingtons, John Smiths, Lamb Donar 10+ yeah Lee sad about the Pubs but you either pay £2 in Spoons or a £5. The Tim Martin story was that there was a delay in his furlough etc and some of his staff's wages were delayed, but because he was a big backer of Brexit the Remoaners jumped all over stories as per about him, so fake news that was. Did you know that in Belfast there is only 1 Wetherspoons? only 4 in Northern Ireland, terrible, take care ;-)

Been going here for 20 plus years. Nice to find an actual kebab shop instead of a takeaway that dabbles in kebab with rubbish meat!!. But you didn't have chilli sauce,which is served warm instead of out of those fridge squeeze bottles which makes your kebab cold. It is homemade to the same recipes they have always had. I have worked all over the country and had kebab, this is the BEST!!!!

Loved the review as always, and looked a winner of a kebab, but not with sweet chilli sauce!! Where's the scary red chilli sauce? Shawarma King in Glasgow won the best Kebab in Britain, I totally recommend them, Politest queue I've ever been, Queued up before opening at lunchtime. But lockdown and Spoons cheap beer, closed half the pubs in the country.

Lots of fake news about mate 🤣 we had 2 in my town here and they both were closed in covid times of course, my friend managed one and nobody was sacked. All paid too. Recently one has closed down and ALL STAFF have been given work in the other venue best they could. Wetherspoons wouldn't be such a success if the owner was how he is portrayed 👍

Mansfield rivaled Blackpool back in the 90's.. 8pm Friday night queuing for the Swan, Yates's, The Yard.. It was solid! Great days.
