The shrieking women lol. I’d say they were the angriest because the soldiers had wrecked their wee house the night before. This was terribly handled. If the brits had been more organised and had better orders they could have made the searches a lot less disruptive. You can just see how this got out of control very quickly. Very good documentary. Some fantastic footage.

I know of a person who had a kid jump out and point a gun at him, he would of been in his right to shoot him. as this was most likely a set up by the IRA, he just stood there and smiled. all so in early days I've been told even the press would pay kids to start trouble just to get a rise out of the troops, so yes that stuff did happen

Soldiers should never again be used to police the streets of any part of the UK. If we have learned anything it should be that. The outcome was sadly predictable. But then hindsight is a wonderful thing to have.

The police run away from Far-left, Islamists, and Roma rioters - and you want to keep the army off the streets? We have learned that two-tier policing in the U.K. is a failure, sadly the Notting Hill Carnival 'activities' are the result.

I know I have to be careful with what I say as the UK Gov seem to be arresting and jailing people for saying words on the internet, I certainly don't condone any form of violence or hatred. One thing I will say is look at the tour dates, years they served and with what regiment especially "the paras" (parachute regiment) because that itself can reveal a hell of a lot more to the story than you might think; you might be asking why, that's because the paras in 71 were responsible for the Ballymurphy Massacre and in 72 Bloody Sunday. Some soldiers here are in the Saville Report I won't say who but Soldier H is in this and others, so pay close attention folks. I'm only 4:30 into it so there might be at edit in my comment soon. Edit: 5:30 that's Robin Horsfall who was in the paras and would join the SAS and storm the Iranian Embassy in 1980, Peter Taylor even made a documentary about it, I know Peter very well, he's a man of pure integrity, honesty, respect, unbiased (despite us both ending up in some sticky situations, story for another day) and ultimately one of the best journalists I've ever worked with. I truly would and (probably already have) put my life in his hands, we put our lives in each others hands that way you don't need to watch your own back because your friend already has it covered. Sorry bit of a rant as normal, but watch his documentary on the siege, it's far better than that six days heap of crap. Robin Horsfall also helped recapture the Falkland islands in 1982 serving with the SAS at the time.

Very interesting watch. I have studied the troubles extensively and consider myself knowledgeable on the subject. In my opinion the overwhelming majority (99.9%) of soldiers discharged their duties in an exemplary fashion. No foreign army could have operated with such restraint to keep the lid on such a highly volatile situation with such professionalism. I do believe a very tiny number fell short of these standards but we should not judge the majority by the actions of a handful. I for one am thankful for your service.
@jamesmcelhinney1023
@jamesmcelhinney1023 13 дней назад
I think, from personal experience, it’s more like 40 percent of the military personnel performed there duty without malice and in an exemplary manner. Your name, religion or accent determined how you where treated from the military and security services.
@bogbay
@bogbay 10 дней назад
You'll have a complete understanding, then, of what happened in Ballymurphy and on Bloody Sunday. Nothing tiny about those operations. Orders came from above, soldiers ran riot. Pivotal incidents in the conflict responsible for a surge in recruitment for the PIRA and notable for gross unprofessionalism on the part of the army. This has been admitted by the British state and an apology issued in Westminster to the families of the victims. The Paras went rogue on the streets of the UK and murdered civilians. The Saville inquiry proved beyond any doubt that the army murdered innocent people on that day and to suggest that they "professionally" "kept a lid" on the situation is absolutely ridiculous when their actions were directly responsible for super-charging an already volatile society. Any peace-keeping they did on a day to day after those events was trumped by the sheer barbarity of what happened and the British state attempts to cover it up. "These things will happen" covers a multitude in this documentary. As a matter of interest, what would you have done if your brother was murdered on Bloody Sunday by Paras?
@clp91009
@clp91009 10 дней назад
@@bogbay I don’t disagree with you about ballymurphy or bloody sunday they were both terrible events and the army acted wrongly on both occasions. I’ve always said these events should have been investigated properly at the time and the soldiers and politicians responsible dealt with severely at the time, and not 40 years later. My overarching point is that the majority of the army did not behave this way, they were restrained under extreme provocation. I’ve heard former soldiers say bloody sunday was wrong, everyone knows those people killed and injured were totally innocent. What would I have done, I don’t know.
@bogbay
@bogbay 10 дней назад
@@clp91009 This is entirely a matter of perspective and reality. The reality of someone who lived through this is very different from your perspective of even-handedness. "The enemy" these lads talk about were people who believed that the British Army was an occupying force, simply because that's what they were. The soldiers themselves described how they were greeted as saviors first but when British Government policy shifted completely behind unionists, attitudes changed. What choice did people have? You saw in this video how soldiers went out of their way to intimidate people by wrecking homes during searches. They only did this to one side. The way the army implemented Government policy was the trigger for PIRA recruitment. Nothing even-handed about this whatsoever.
@clp91009
@clp91009 10 дней назад
@@bogbay Your points are well made and I know I can never fully comprehend what people had to deal with, that’s fair. What I would say is that some loyalists were also treated badly by the security forces. I watched an interview with a former UVF member who described very brutal behaviour towards his person by the police. I’ve also seen interviews with soldiers who say they would shoot anyone who had had a weapon be they republicans or loyalists. Point I’m making is that the brutality wasn’t exclusively against republicans or nationalists.
