As a British kid growing up in the 1970s the activities of "The Troubles" was constantly on the news and our knowledge of it was sketchy to say the least. It led to me doing research on Irish politics to educate myself and I was also fascinated with the autobiographies of the "touts" when they came out. Fantastic to see this channel, albeit so sad to see the tragic loss and waste of life on all sides. May peace prevail and hopefully those dark days will never return.
Thank you for taking the time to educate yourself on the subject as most English people don't. Without England invading Ireland centuries before, there wouldn't have been any "troubles".
Fine for him to abandon his earlier principles I guess but I just hate how he makes comments like a UDR volunteer had more right than an Irishman to be involved. Give me a break. Have some respect for the nationalists murdered and harassed by the UDR for years. The whole point of Ulsterzation was to cloak the British involvement and redirect the conflict between the two local communities. This whole "flipping sides" part of his story rubs me the wrong way. He doesn't seem actually guilt ridden he seems vindictive and a ego driven.
Exactly. Well said. He was a turncoat with no principles or loyalty to anyone but himself. He ended up serving as an advisor on security to the Ulster Unionist Party for Christ's sake.
I'm 99% sure i clocked him in Glasgow Central train station. He was wearing a del boy coat. (a sheepskin) My first impression was that's Sean O'Callaghan,he had like a leather satchel and he was tall,i kept looking at him,he was on his own. he dissappeared amongst the crowd and i ended up scratching my head, saying to myself.. " I know this Bastard"
@@jameslarkin8494IF yourself actually had this experience, then my response:”Your life is intriguing😮.” However, IF you are lying 🤥 then my response is “😮Nice😂😂😂!”
IRA was heavily infiltrated by informers. What saved the republican movement was the support from the nationalist community, the effective and successful political strategy of Sinn Fein and the cleverness and capability of its leadership. They were smart enough to realise that the armed struggle was compromised for various reasons and they could not achieve a united Ireland by military means. That doesn't mean that they should had abandoned the armed struggle earlier. Acceptable peace could not be reached with Thatcher. The road to peace was opened only after she was gone.
@@edwardodonnell6857 I do not glorify terrorism and I know that many people suffer for the rest of their lives by these actions. The provisionals made many terrible things. Enniskillen, la man restaurant, the Birmingham bombs, the use of a civilian cook of the British army as a suicidal bomb, the assassination of an ex UDR civilian who had left the UDR years ago in order not to become target of the IRA etc. Innocent people are now in wheelchairs, lives destroyed, parents have lost their children. But except the crimes of the paramilitary organisations we must also consider the crimes of the military organisations. Right now in Gaza we have 40000 dead people in just 8 months. They are killed by an army of a so called democracy. In Northern Ireland there were 3500 dead people in 25 years. Just for comparison.
@@gracchusbabeuf9868 People will fight back if unfairly treated we never know our response until circumstances force us to respond.Colonialism never works it’s human nature to want equality.
Was this anti-IRA hit piece sponsored by protestants or the british somehow. Im Swedish but even I understand the sad actuality of "casualties of war", this traitor seems to only want things for himself (such as attention)
Dangerous man addicted to dangerous highs, claims to be on some sort of moral high ground trying to reshape his image and rewrite history, a very dangerous man indeed. "Mountbatten was a hero" - J Ocallaghan Ohright..
There is nothing worse than a tout in both side of the divide, it’s shocking to think this man came from an area I no well, it is one of the most republican areas in Ireland . Unreal
Just awful seeing murdered people just left alone in the middle of a feild or at the roadside a human being left like so much rubbish.Becoming a informer must place the individual under real stress knowing that if discovered it means torture and certain death. If your in a movement and informed on from the inside it means life imprisonment at best torture and death. These awful acts of killing taking life in or for a political cause and it could easily happen if you lived in any community during the troubles to anyone.People say it’s a choice but sometimes circumstances can gradually lead your life down the wrong track a dead end.
British undercover spy's and people who joined up with the intention of informing should for me be judged differently to people like Sean and others like him who volunteered and swore by the cause. To become an informer and sell-out the organisation, your comrades and the cause, regardless of what that cause is comes with consequences and that should be how it is in my opinion !!
