Are u telling you are like that ones who forgot how God saved them from the hands of the Paraoh and invented fake gods to worship in the span of 40 days?
Ever since I first saw Nina Paley's film "Sita Sings the Blues" at a Vancouver Film festival over 10 years ago I have been a big fan! Her original and humorous images that depict historical myths and biblical stories are absolutely fabulous and I never grow tired of sending or showing them to my art students. THANK YOU NINA PALEY!!!
This is my very first time to approach today! I didn't know that Bible can be interpreted in such a lovely, cute, & rhythmic images/ cartoons! I fall in love all at once from the MV "Moses goes down to Egypt" while I further search her other masterpieces. Incredible! Nina Paley... How miraculous of her works! ❣❣❣💘💘💘
Everyone saying "Moses didn't hit the rock twice in the vid" it's because you can't put every event of the Exodus into a 3 minute video. She chose to highlight Moses' place as the human manifestation of the law, which is absolutely correct (see Matthew 17, Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus, representing the law and the prophets, and in the video, Moses' head is in the shape of the 10 commandments). Moses did disobey, but that wasn't the point of this video. The people were to obey Moses (the law) and they failed repeatedly, yet God was still merciful to them. Giving them food and water was a merciful act, regardless of whether or not Moses' himself disobeyed.
The point is, Moses STRUCK the rock rather than ASKING it for water as he had been instructed to do. As punishment for his arrogance, God decreed that Moses not enter the Promised Land (it was Aaron who led the people the rest of the way after Moses' death.) Therein lies the genius of Paley's choice of sound: Moses is telling the Hebrews, "I'LL be there," rather than crediting God for their blessings.
@@josepherhardt164 - God sent the flood because the world became so violent, it was already going to destroy itself through endless war. The Bible says that humans had become totally corrupt and that God was brokenhearted. He didn't want to send the Flood, but He had to take action before the human race killed itself. "The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that EVERY INTENTION of the thoughts of his heart was ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it GRIEVED him to his heart." - Genesis 6:5-6 ESV You recognize that God allowed Noah's family to live. That was an act of mercy. God allowed the human race to live through Noah rather than killing it off forever. God did not toy with Job. Satan did. You guys really need to stop blaming God for all the bad things that happen in the world when Satan or evil humans are at fault. No, God allowed Job to have everything taken from him, because Job's faith was only based on what God could give him. Job needed to learn that only GOD HIMSELF is the source of our hope and purpose, no matter how rich or poor we are. Our motivation for following God shouldn't be "hey I can get rich out of this!" but "wow, God loves me and I should love Him back." God also gave everything back to Job when the trial was over, because He is okay with our stuff, but not if it becomes more important than He is.
Now if you feel that you can't go on Because all of your hope is gone, And your life is filled with much confusion Until happiness is just an illusion, And your world around is crumblin' down; Darling, reach out (come on girl, reach on out for me) Reach out (reach out for me.) I'll be there, with a love that will shelter you. I'll be there, with a love that will see you through. I'll be there to always see you through. When you feel lost and about to give up 'Cause your best just ain't good enough And you feel the world has grown cold, And you're drifting out all on your own, And you need a hand to hold: Darling, reach out (come on girl, reach out for me) Reach out (reach out for me.) I'll be there, to love and comfort you, And I'll be there, to cherish and care for you. I'll be there to love and comfort you. I can tell the way you hang your head, You're without love and now you're afraid And through your tears you look around, But there's no peace of mind to be found. I know what you're thinkin', You're alone now, no love of your own, But darling, reach out (come on girl, reach out for me) Reach out (reach out for me.) Just look over your shoulder I'll be there, to give you all the love you need, And I'll be there, you can always depend on me.
That mindset of "Reach out for meeee" is what ultimately cost Moses the ability to enter the promised land. The song makes more sense if Moses is singing it as conveying a message from God, but the way it looks like he's saying it alone and they're bowing to him makes it seem like he's claiming more credit than he should. The second time Moses created water, he struck the rock despite God telling him to speak a command instead. This may have been a combination of anger at the israelites for constantly being unfaithful and ungrateful, pride/thinking he can do it his way and make it seem like he was the one giving the israelites the water by striking rocks to conjur it, and a lack of faith that God can do it this new way as opposed to the now tried and true method of striking the rock. Note "may have" regarding the pride thing as it's simply a theory I've heard.
@@svetlin_dpDoesn't matter if that's the original purpose, we will still claim it to Rightfully Adore and Praise GOD. If such is indeed the original intention, I Pray its "creator" will come to know Truth.
@@svetlin_dp I don't understand how this video is direct blasphemy, many people here are led to think it's a Genuine Christian Animation made in Good-Faith-in my opinion that indicates that the content is not horrendous, and thus can be salvaged.
Wow, amazing! So much symbolism... all the people are men, Moses crushing the Goddesses, what looks like a phallus at the end.... so much patriarchy! I also LOVED the imagery - the pillar of fire is just incredible! Thank you for this.
Was it not religious patriarchy that got the Jewish people freed from slavery to Egypt and made 1 of the 2 foundations for western civilization? Where was pagan matriarchy when the Jewish people were in slavery?
@@zacharymoss2994 do you realize how nonsensical this question is? the Jews of the time simply did not switch to that system because they wanted women in a subordinate position. As if the social system of matriarchy has any agency to implement itself.
@@zacharymoss2994 Brace yourself, Zachary. There is absolutely no historical or archeological record of the Hebrews EVER having been enslaved by Egypt. Nina Paley is simply parodying a work of fiction.
@@pricklypear7516 I'm sorry but you have been mislead. Multiple ancient hostorians mention them being enslaved and expelled from Egypt. Manetho and Hecataeus chief among them. And the Brooklyn Papyrus 35.1446 lists Hebrew names of Egyptian Slaves.
Listen to Song of Songs, it reminds you what real romance between a man and a woman was supposed to be, before you got jaded by the gender war, and both men and women are guilty of being jaded, or “stiff necked”
Fun Bible/Torah trivia: What most people know as the ten commandments were never carved into tablets nor put into the ark of the covenant in the story. Both separate sets of the tablets are quite different, even from each other.
STFU demon Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant-the Ten Commandments. Exodus 34:28 NIV
Love these animations!! I would have loved to see Moses hit the stone twice since that is what ultimately kept him from paradise (ie not trusting in God) :)
@@walleras I thought it was hitting the stone the second time he did the water thing. The reason was, according to my professor, perhaps that by doing so, he was acting like he was the one making the water from the stone, rather than simply being a conduit for God's power. So I think it may be a combination of not Trusting God and pride. God was quite angry with the Israelites several times and Moses interceded for God to spare them rather than what God offered of creating the chosen people through mainly Moses' line and wiping the ungrateful and unfaithful Israelites out. That's the ironic thing about this animation to me. Moses basically acts like this the whole time, making the israelites bow to him for Mana and singing about how "I'll be there" and "reach out to MEEE"
You stiff neck people..... We still don't understand the message... You will continue to keep walking... So sad they read it and even in a animated video and still don't understand the message is for everyone how is alive 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@KarePassion Obviously not, it's meant to acknowledge that this structure and similar ones relating to it have centered around race more often than not in the last half century
Interesting note, the first chorus during the bead falling from the sky is spoken from God's narrative. It's implied God is singing that part of the chorus. When Moses hits the rock however he sings it, it's not coming from him. This was when God told Moses to speak to the rock but out of his ego Moses struck it instead. For this he was condemned to die without ever entering the Holy Land.
Bullshit. Neither Moses nor any other prophet ever disobeyed, they were faultless men. Any sins were commited by mistake and they were informed about it instantly and forgiven. Whats taught about corrupt messengers is false records written by corrupt scholars looking for excuses for their own evil deeds so they can say "better men did worse than me".
@@laythibrahim1306 Either you're simply ignorant, or you're stupid. Either you believe in the Bible/Torah or you don't. If you believe that Moses in the Bible existed then you should know that in Devarim/Deuteronomy/Numbers 20 Moses disobeys a direct order from God and this is why he's ultimately forbidden from going to the land of Israel. If you want exact passages in English or Hebrew from either the old or new testament I can provide them. If you think that "lesser men" rewrote the dang things to make Moses look bad then why do you believe it all if it's a document that has been altered by mere men.
@@victorqwilleran3331 "They said, 'O Moses, indeed we will not enter it, ever, as long as they are within it; so go, you and your Lord, and fight. Indeed, we are remaining right here.' Moses said, 'My Lord, indeed I do not possess except myself and my brother, so part us from the defiantly disobedient people.' Almighty God said, "Then indeed, it is forbidden to them for forty years [in which] they will wander throughout the land. So do not grieve over the defiantly disobedient people." Therefore woe be unto those who write the Scripture with their hands and then say, "This is from Almighty God," that they may purchase a small gain therewith. Woe unto them for that their hands have written, and woe unto them for that they earn thereby. But those who were unjust changed it for a saying other than that which had been spoken to them, so We sent upon those who were unjust a pestilence from heaven, because they transgressed. Do you then hope that they would believe in you, and a party from among them indeed used to hear the Word of Almighty God, then altered it after they had understood it, and they know (this). Most surely there is a party amongst those who distort the Book with their tongue that you may consider it to be (a part) of the Book, and they say, It is from Almighty God, while it is not from Almighty God, and they tell a lie against Almighty God whilst they know. And when Almighty God made a covenant with those who were given the Book: You shall certainly make it known to men and you shall not hide it; but they cast it behind their backs and took a small price for it; so evil is that which they buy.
My parents decided that the best way to explain everything was "If you don't do this, you're going to burn in hell." Needless to say I found that complete and utter bullshit.
Kodoku Pierrot I really hate when Christian Adults teach kids the wrong way about Christianity, Like people should be taught that god is a loving god and you can always redeem yourself
@Omar, that's called willful ignorance, then. Sin is a part of all of humanity, and to say that it doesn't exist is mental gymnastics. @Rick, boy what are you talking about the west is the moral center of the world!
God watches not from on high but from within and therefore all the suffering you endure in his name he also suffers through in return. The soul is God's true domain and kingdom..
@@andreadato6447 Well I personally believe in Christian mysticism which puts forth the concept that to put it very simply all human beings are a piece of God or a fragment if you will made manifest in the material world and therefore all the pain and suffering you experience in life is also felt by the soul which is the essence of God. Meaning to put it even more simply we are him and he is us and so he sees everything through our eyes and feels everything we feel and I think that's even more so the case when we undergo hardship in his name.. I hope what I said made sense
+Dante Jager dick mountain is a reference to the phallyc references in biblical religion. They kinda wanted to make sure there was no female association with god +Joshua Gasparac thanks for pointing that out.. can't unsee the seen
watch "Tribute to the Goddess ( the golden calf ) Woman" and hopefully youll understand why it's a "penis mountain" if you still need help just reply back to me
Incognito yes it does fit better but at the same time that moment holds importance for Moses because it shows that he did not do exactly as god told him to do which led to him being not allowed to go into the promised land.
I think it's just the artist's commentary on how many ancient pre-Abrahamic religions were focused on fertility goddesses and did not view the nude form of woman as vulgar and sinful, but as beautiful and something to be worshiped because they represented fertility and the continuation of life. At 2:15 (in the golden calf video), there are dancing 'Venus of Willendorf,' figures - this is one the oldest known fertility goddess statuettes ever found dating back to Neolithic times. Also the women emerging with breasts exposed, bird on their heads, and snakes in their hands are a reference to a 'Minoan' fertility statuette as well.
W0lf B0NE well if that's the case, then she's wrong.Because nudity (for both women and men but it's more to women) was in fact objectifying yourselves.Heck, a study actually proves that.
Because the producer of this is a feminist who sticks her own narratives into history. She thinks ancient pagan societies were matriarchal and it was monotheists who were patriarchal which is a hilarious claim.
@@apples8232 Regardless of anyone's personal beliefs, it IS based on the biggest piece of literature that has shaped Western society, and a good chunk of Eastern, too. I think we're safe calling it educational.
It's all good vibes and good R&B until Moses comes down, sees the Golden Calf and 1 minute after saying no killing, says that God has commanded that all those who doubt his word be put to the sword. But hey, Moses had Swing singing.
