Nice work. I've had my Zed blasted and epoxy primed (a few yrs ago here in NZ) Hope to get into it soon (done all the mecanicals). Those belts sanders seem to do the trick really well, I'll defineately get one. Love watching your progress.
Hi Jacob, I’m not an expert on 2+2’s but I don’t believe they are the same due to the different bumpers, but have a search around the forums and you should find the answer.
Filler / bog aint so bad..as long as its over primed metal and not rusty like yours (and mine!) make sure they epoxy prime the car right after blasting, and that they don't use too abrasive a material!
Haha too true! Yeah that’s the plan, epoxy straight after. These guys only do cars so they know what they’re doing in terms of abrasives, I can’t wait to get it done and start replacing metal! it’s been a long time coming!
For the 1st panel you got did you measure the metal on new panel and cut the old off? Or just straight across i just ordered my panel to replace my rusty rear end
I feel your pain, got mine blasted after finding filler everywhere. Saved loads of time but it came back looking like Frankenstein's Daughter...... prepare yourself.
Nasty surprise, but the surviving z cars have lasted this long. Not bad considering the metal quality being used by Datsun - Nissan at the time. Fiat was also experiencing the same issues with there models in the 70s. To add to that these cars weren't worth that much a few years back so no one took the time to fix them properly. I'm afraid that's down us, the current owners. Take solace in knowing many have gone and are going through the same issues, just take a deep breath and focus on completing the job irrespective of the hurdles thrown at you. It's well worth it in the end. All the best with your project. Looking forward to more of your adventures and discoveries.
A smear of bog’s one thing but that was outta control! I really, really don’t understand how someone - a “professional” panel beater, potentially - could do such a crap job and feel good about themselves. Your work, on the other hand, looks to be great.
