Poor Ryan, being attacked by a large stone and hurting his finger, finding out that someone died near his apartment and now not being left in charge, never mind, we're here for you son! Be brave!
I agree, there have been many that passed away in the convent. Especially during WW2, and perhaps even WW1 that nun took care of that were injured and died.
I'd like to request that Simon read a children's book in that quiet comforting voice of his so I can play it over and over again when I have trouble falling asleep. It lulls you. I'm not saying that what he's describing in the videos is uninteresting, he just has a calming voice.
You should consider having a hanging display cabinet to showcase all the "archeological finds" recovered during the renovation. Also, perhaps a plaque with the names/companies who contributed to the renovation.
Billy, you seriously need to get the convent blessed. Now you know there was a suspicious death there, it's better you have all of your bases covered....also reassuring for Ryan. Much love & light. 🙏💖
I love how Simon and Yanis are using a wheelbarrow to put the dirt in they’re removing rather than tossing it on the ground and creating extra work. Work smarter, not harder.
I love the way that Simon explains things. He draws you in to understanding what he is doing and I am learning things. I am glad to be following you on this journey to fix up this beautiful building. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
When I saw the title, my first thought was, Simon dug up skeleton bones in the floor! 😆 I'm loving all the work being done. Simon and Yanis are gems. I hope Ryan didn't hurt his fingers too bad. Enjoy your holiday!
5:12 I'm wondering if workmen a few hundred years ago used that sloping stone as a ramp to get wheelbarrows up into the building. The original floor before the stone was laid down would've been at about the height of the back of that stone.
The red pottery reminds me of samian ware. It was mass produced in Gaul (France) in the 1st/2nd century by the Romans. Roman glass was very thin. The grey bowl/cup is wheel made, and the fact you have the profile will make identification much easier.
Yes, Simon. I’d really like to see more archeological finds. These pieces add so much to the understanding of what went on in this, what seems, to be a multi use building. Billy, I still think putting up a night camera would be cool.
Hundreds of years ago, Christian buildings were built atop much older pagan sites as a way of honouring the site itself, and to keep it for the people, as it was always used for worship. Perhaps you have an old stone that was kept out of respect for the site itself. And it's at the doorway, a portal. Something to think about.
Beneath the large stone, partially uncovered at the door entrance, is the waterproof box containing diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and gold which was hidden there during WWII and then forgotten.
We had a house fire that damaged 85% of our house. After renovations, we still got a seepage like that drip down the wall that you saw in the first room (in the top apartment). It's toxins from the smoke that are seeping out of the wall as it sweats due to humidity in the room. Definitely a fire and/or heavy smoker in that apartment. Also, Simon, that looks like it might be a French stoneware cider jug, maybe Calvados.
What a great team Yannis and Simon are! The convent slowly reveals it’s secrets….The young woman who died likely panicked from the fire, and slipped and fell down the stairs.
I hope Billy will be getting an old glass front cabinet and place all these remarkable items you all have found through the reconstruction. It would be a great piece in the entrance hall. Alex, loving your intros....they are stunning. Yannis, always moving at warp speed!
Just wanted to say that Yanis (sp) is worthy of some hardcore respect, that guy has a solid work ethic. And some massive patience, I hate being called "young, son, child, kid" by older people. LOL Although, I usually get em back by giving them grandpa walkers for gifts. :D --- EDIT - Look at the ceiling, or above the ceiling in Ryans apartment and see if there is any fire damage there, also look above the top apartment seiling and look to see if there is any fire damage above the ceiling. Since most people will do the bare minimum to fix / repair things.
@@ludovica8221 no, I neither attacked you or belittled you, but as I said, you've obviously got some issues to deal with, which will probably iron themselves out with age and maturity 😊🙏🏻
@@artslife3876 Or instead of assuming you know all, maybe ASK Yanis how he feels about it. My POV, your POV, Simon's POV doesn't matter. Only what Yanis feels in this situation matters, which is why I said. "Yanis is more patient than I." (or something to that effect.
It’s quite possible that the odd center stone was actually used as a fulcrum to hoist the threshold stone into place just as YOU used it with the steel bar. Maybe they just kept it there to steady the threshold while they filled in underneath. Have a wonderful (and well deserved) holiday Billie ! Simon should be part of the new Time Team ! Good archeological finds ! It’s wonderful that he pays attention to these small but important details ! 🧐😉
Well Ryan, if you hear strange noises in the night or see objects moving or flying across the room you know you have a roommate. If the walls start bleeding “Get Out” it’s time to move back downstairs to the original apartment! 😂
Ryan actually looked stunned and I wonder if he’ll continue with the refurbishment spending his own money with the intention of living there or will he carry on just to help Billy out 🤔 Only my opinion of course.
Simon is the calmest person I have ever seen. Great teacher too. So does Ryan have a roommate?? Yeah, I would haunt Ryan just to mess with his brain with lame jokes. 😆
Oh dear.. BILLY, PLEASE DONT LET THEM PLAY OUIJA BOARD. Please please please don’t. I’m serious. Don’t want anything freaky deeky affecting your life and anyone else’s. 🥺🥺🥺
I love the Time Team flavor being added. As far as future episodes, would love to see Simon's progress on his own house once the windows are installed.
Very interesting-another convent story. It’s full of mysteries. Simon’s attention to details is so impressive-a true artisan. He is so lucky to have Yannis, too.
I think Simon is a very clever man . I love watching his tips. i watch your videos everyday and love the progress the convent is taking, well done all.
After centuries these building held life and death, joy and sadness. Once the buildings are done bless the building. Yes to the metal detectors and a display case
I hope eventually Billy that a room in the Convent will be made into a museum room to display all the things you find whilst doing the renovations ……! A photographic display of every step of the journey would be good too …..! Xx
This place was a somewhat secluded convent. With an adjoining hospital. Through some of the worst times in history.... You have no IDEA how many people died in that place! One more or less doesn't really add up to the legions of ghosts inhabiting the place. You have to live with all of them - or don't.
Me, mam, always said, "It's not the dead. it's harm you. it's the living." But I'd say there the night. Certain convent in the UK, use to Bury children, when born out of wedlock. Wonder if this happens there. 🤔
Simmon has really become a natural in front of the camera. We are beginning to see that nothing fazes Simmon. Always has a smart comment to follow any situation. He is very funny.
I was watching the video of when you brought your parents and grandparents with Gwen to look around, I think just prior to purchase. How far you've come since then
Yay!! On the metal detecting and just searching the grounds!! SOO cool! Love finding bits of history on grounds of older places!!! 💪✌️❤️🙏 😂😂🤣🤣 now there is just three of us ... 😂😂I'm glad Ryan is ok
Those stairs to the 3rd floor apartment are so steep. I can imagine someone running away from the fire, missing their footing and ending up with a broken neck.
Even if you have a newer building, the earth on which your building has been built still carries a history. Which can be felt in the new building. Energy stays on the property.
I think that step at the entrance was part of an older building. It was pretty different to the existing building in style and it's depth certainly suggest it's from another time period. I think the oddly laid stone was a ramp for barrows. Possibly the archway was permanently open and the doors into the building started either side of the corridor?
Could be, but it's also below the corridor flagstones, which, with inclusion of the basement entrance, probably original to the convent as we know it. It's probably fairly easy to check for older buildings on this site? I'm assuming France also has an equivalent of the doomsday book? Especially as it was the French that implimented it here in the UK.
Finding pottery at an historic excavation site can tell a story about life at a site. If there are not enough fragments, it can be puzzling at times unless experts can identify what they are is key to knowing about them and what they were. An American in St. Louis, Missouri (The 2nd Empire Strikes Back channel) had a guy come over to metal detect his front and back yard for discarded historic bits and pieces. He has kept them as mementos hoping they belonged to the previous two owners.
Another great episode!! Whew! Alex makes vids even more of a joy to watch. What an incredible, talented team you have, Billy! They will continue to make you proud, while you enjoy a much deserved family vacay. Poor Ryan, new info threw him -- as it did me. More to come.
We had a fire with extensive smoke damage. We paid a com pany to come in and midigate the soot. They did a great job. Years later i opened up a toy to put in a new battery and found soot inside of the battery cavity.
I had a favorite bear as a kid. It's what I grabbed to save from a fire back then. Decades I found it in a box of my stuff after my mom died. I could still smell the smoke.
I'm thinking that that large piece of granite / flagstone was put there as a way to keep the mud from coming in to that entrance. And I think the cobblestone was put later. I can feel old feet on that piece of granite in Old leather shoes tied on top. I know you may think I'm weird, but I can't get images and feelings from something when I look at it
Fascinating about the pottery find. More please! Suspicious death is interesting. Surely France has archives of autopsy reports, and police records. Is Ryan freaked that it might be his apartment?
The first pottery chips remind me of what was popular in the 1970s. The second glass piece is like antique glass, as drinking vessels were made paper thin.
Firstly, Billy & family - enjoy your first proper holiday together. Secondly, it is really sad that a woman lost her life in the building. Very interested to see what Simon is finding whilst excavating. I am amazed at how big that granite piece is in the doorway. Excited to see what will be happening in Billy’s absence - and Phil coming to help. Loved the music at the start 💜. Ps. Hope Ryan is ok. Noticed he hasn’t put a video up. ❤️
She may have tried to run away from the fire, tripped and fell down the stairs and broke he neck. So Ryan, if you see a ghost with their head either cockeyed on their neck, or their head dangling on their neck, you met your upstairs neighbor... 😄
I had a house fire 6 years ago last week while I was out of town. The neighbors were alerted when something in the kitchen exploded from the heat and called 911 and it was put out before it spread beyond the kitchen. The smoke, however, was so pervasive that the firefighters couldn’t see in front of them and permeated the entire house. The entire interior was stripped down to the studs. I immediately spotted characteristic damage caused by the steam created by the water used to put the fire out. I spent a lot of time going through possessions before the renovations commenced and was very involved in the renovation process, so had plenty of opportunity to get a first hand education on the aftermath of a fire and cleaning of possessions. The work I contributed allowed for upgrades and alterations to make a more functional home.
Simon you will be finding so much good old stuff around your place. Will be nice to see it all. Anointing oil or Holy water maybe? Watching all the work you guys are doing to bring life back into that beautiful old place is very heart warming. Thanks for sharing. LOVE seeing the finds. Glad that Simon is "into" the history part. God bless and protect. Have a wonderful holiday with the family. The convent is in great hands.
a very interesting video, a real shame about the poor lady that died, may she R.I.P. bless her, hope Ryan's fingers are ok? Yanis and Simon doing a great job together, and I hope you Billy Gwen and the children have a super holiday, well deserved as you all work so hard, and well done Alex with the video's
The fire probably started by a cigarette! The woman probably woke up and tried to run downstairs and fell, either, from a heart attack or injury from the fall!
Simon, you have a trained eye for archeological finds. That is awesome. Ryan, I hope your fingers are OK. Billy and Gwen and boys, I hope you have an awesome, well-deserved vacation.❤ That is very sad about that lady. May she RIP.
I hope you and your family have a lovely holiday Billy. It sounds like the team have an interesting time planned for us while you're away. I'm loving the little finds of pottery. You may want to speak with the insurers again and find out if anything else of interest happened at the convent. ❤🐨
Can I say I just love Alexes videos, his choise of music, everything. Billie have a nice holiday with your family. As for the pieces of potery I think it might be some oil lamp hence the glass. Can’t wait for the other videos. Crack on Alex and Simon and Janice👍😎🐕🦺🐈⬛
