First car was a Model A with a 49 Flathead , three 97's on an Edelbrock alum manifold , and Edelbrock heads . I'm 70 now and miss the ride ! Miss it BAD !
Flathead ford is the only way to go for a real nostalgic hotrod. Simple, loud, and fun. Didnt need a paint job with a big enough price tag that it could buy you a new honda.
the modern day "old hot rods" are way too shiny !!!...that's not very authentic....back in the day, the hot rods were either primered or showed some wear on the original paint...not everyone could afford nice paint...they put their money into going fast....sure, there were some care with nice finishes, but from my experience, this was not the case in most instances....flatheads have that certain appeal to us old folks, and I just love the way they sound...stock or modified !!
The Flathead V8 has an fascinating history considering it was first developed and produced in the Depression era. Hot rodding it could it could be argued began much earlier with"hopping up"of Model T Fords common practice in the 1920's.
Yep, the model T engine from the teens to the late 30s was like the 350 chevy small block of today. Cheap, reliable, and easy to hop up. Some of the earliest hotrods in the late 30s were 4 banger model T flatheads.
Back in the day when punkrock came out with sex pistols etc, they and their follower were not car fans at all, on the contrary they *hated cars guys and many car guys "hated" them, at least where i was back then , so its a bit odd how some nowdays mix in punkrock music with old hotrods , really weird , LOL 😂 but well if you were not around back then you would not know I suppose ;) But great little movie still ;o)
