As a long time toplaner this is all very accurate. Only thing id have to add is that there is also the archetype of the quiet psycho toplaner who will not utter a word all game, seemingly calm and composed only to write an essay that would make works such as Mein Kampf pale in comparison if they win.
This speaks to my soul. I let them talk shit and cry and only when the game is over and I win will I get chat banned for two weeks, but chromosome collectors need to know their hobby sucks.
As a top lane main I have to add that only 75% of us are really toxic the other 25% are toxic in chat to stay sane bcs we will go insane listening to the rest of top lane mains and also 101% of top mains are masochists.
I don’t agree with that top lane I only worry about my opponent there so fun to talk to I just had a match with a voli who ask for a truce and then and only kills when a jungler comes when just farm
@@marquisstevenson7036 wow deja vu,same thing happend to me i was playing brair vs garen we agrred on a truce, but when his jungler came and i went to fight him he broke it and joined up on me(i won the game btw and crushed their skulls,i went fulltryhard after that betrayl)
toplane is a survival horror game where you tey to kill your enemy laner but frantically look back at any place not warded remotely near the river to see if enemy jungler is coming to gank you
As a bot(Aphelios) main who recently switched to top(Trundle) I must say the difference between being able to miss everything and still come out on top in a teamfight and playing challenger-level perfect only to get one shot by someone's stare has been so refreshing XD
@@TheTarians it's gonna be probably the most difficult one I think because support can have very different roles even within being support based on the champions you pick. Engagement healing, damage
The secret to being a respected top laner is to convince everyone you don't main top. Now your IQ isn't in question and people are less likely to assume you have brain damage. You also have to never ban any top champions because everyone knows the entire roster is just unbeatable giga chads so who cares what you ban, its ALL op anyways. Now here's the hard part, NEVER tell anyone you're the carry (even though you always are) otherwise the game is lost on the spot. Your teammates with make sure that you lose the next 10 games back to back if even SUGGEST you're useful to them (even though they're all comparable to watch mojo top 10s). Even if you win or lose make sure to type "team canyon" at the end of every match followed by "when does the game start"? Trust me they'll all appreciate it knowing that you really were 20000% of the teams power the entire time.
Genuinely funny video lol, I, as many top laners do indeed have a god complex. blame jungle if we lose lane and flame our team if we lose. - But I will say that while all of that is true, it is also true that very frequently enemy jungler will sit top and just win enemy top laner the lane and it's also very frequent that botlane goes 0/20 and makes us lose.
@7:00 you got balls, if I called someone a looser after being called one I would got chat banned for a week and ranked banned for 5 games to think about my actions
So glad the algorithm blessed me with this, very well made I'll be sure to stick around for more. Yeah top is just a huge pride/mental check, one I have failed an embarrassing amount of times
Ranged top laners often enjoy trolling the toxic god complex bruiser players and they usually just wanna play their silly little yordles. A Teemo player is probably still gonna be chill after losing a ranked game. A Darius player on the other hand is likely to require a restraining order, anger management classes and several therapy sessions after a losing a normal game. Adc tops like Vayne, Akshan and Quinn are the worst of both worlds though.
In Toplane, you can play the ward game in 2 different ways. 1. Actually buy control wards after every recall and put it into well-visited bushes to spot the jungler on time 2. Let your PTSD guide you, that you probably got from all the games where you got permaganked just for existing, only relying on your normal wards and what lane the jungler last ganked or what objective they last took. Even where YOUR jungler currently is also matters and if he's ahead or behind, can't be too sure from which bush that Rengar, Kha'zix or Gragas is gonna jump you from. The bushes always have ears...But hey, at least you get your items earlier from saving those 75g every back.
As a top laner i agree with basically everything in this vid. But heres the thing tho, top lane also has the chance to be the chillest lane in the game. Ive had a bunch of games where there's almost a sort of gentlemen's agreement not to fight, and we just farm and chill in peace. Even had one game where we warned each other about ganks coming up. So it can also be the chillest, most respectable lane, where at the end the tops are like, "yo gg bro good lane" with no in between
Wild rift Sion main here, you forgot one stereotype about us and that is if someone, probably a new player that doesn't understand the game, goes to top lane, we suddenly don't know how to play. Happened to me many times, and the usurper was in most cases Jinx. All things considered, nice video!
Honestly, the addition of the voidgrubs have really helped to break up that complete isolation top lane has had but i still see so many elitist enemy lanes whenever you have help from your jungler
I play top only bcs I like cs and somehow after that helping my team(yorick/ornn). But you are right about how many top mains blame everything on others.
I'm a Kled/Riven/Aatrox toplaner who never flames anyone no matter what and generally doesn't type, and many have no idea how draining it is to keep playing like this, trying to be calm, when my entire team fumbles the early game while I get fed and then dies randomly in the late game leading to a loss. Like I literally get fed in like 80% of games but sometimes it's not a situation I can solocarry because one or more of the enemies are even more fed than I am. But you know what, toplane is probably one of the simplest roles, maybe I have no idea what the rest of my team has to struggle through... it's still frustrating though. At least if I'm playing midlane if I'm an assassin I'm probably somewhat capable of taking out a priority target, or if I'm a mage I can deal good damage from a distance avoiding danger if I play well, but when I'm playing a full melee champion it's like what the fuck do I do. My whole team can't do shit and my only option to challenge the enemy team is to go in and probably die. Go next and get better I guess. I'd rather endure this than be a fuckhead asshole who flames people to their faces for making mistakes in a videogame tho.
I've ran into multiple top laners who laughed off every kill that happened in our 1v1 and just chill in all chat while our teammates are typing aggressive slurs in Polish. Sometimes low elos are best. And no I don't main top, but I play there from time to time
This is true even in pre-level 30 normals. I once got an Urgot who trashtalked me for playing Garen (because he is a "champ for noobs"). He then complained everytime he died from ganks that I can't kill him without help. They lost the game and of course he blamed the lose on his teammates. I also once played against a Nasus who went for a 1v1 and lost. His response was "I hope you know you played that super bad". Yeah sure buddy. Toplane is something else.
me and the boys have a fellow toplaner for low stakes tournaments and so on that doesnt say a word the entire game. he solokills his enemy 5 timss, takes 3 turrets before 20 minutes, solos herald, invades the enemy jungler and will not have spoken a single word until the nexus falls. but lord have nercy if he gets ganked and dies.... as soon as he speaks his first word, you have approximately 5 minutes before buildings get blown up
I remember building zonya as my last item playing morde and getting called "brain dead" by the enemy mid lane after I used it to not only survive but killing them with my passive still active.
That rage is every player in this game. I had an adc call me small brain or something like that for pointing out that i would rather have the 2/3 adc on my team than the 4/7 (as that's like 400 some more gold to the enemy team making carrying that much harder.) Her come back was that she won lane because she was 4/1 in laning and got killed by the enemy Tryndamere after that and couldn't do anything.
You forgot something. If a typical melee bruiser/tank/fighter is strong in a given patch they lose "True toplaner" Status until such time Riot decides to hit them with 3 back to back nerfs and place them squarely in C tier. Ignore the fact that giving Garen +5 to his ad ratio on Q doesn't actually change the outcome of any of the still numerous countermatchups the simple champ has, some site now says he's "S TIER" And therefore if you play him you are bad. I really dislike toplane ever since it became gimmick hell and this video is harsh but accurate in pointing it out. Honestly it's just a contest as to who can face slam into tower harder at this point.
Top lane is basically the Final Destination of lanes. It is the lane where people settle differences and if they don't it's because the jungler or mid laner ganked or the enemy picked a ranged "top laner" and got marked as "That guy who picks ranged champions for top lane". The very mention of "Vayne Top" makes a top laner seethe with steam blowing out their ears and should they encounter such a phenomenon it is considered a community service to absolutely demolish the horrid creature and purge their corrupt spirit from this, our holy lane, and a time where the melee top laner unconditionally adores his jungler for every gank. I know all this because I mostly played top lane before graduating leagueaholics anonymous and still going strong for 5+ years. The fact that the lane was so disconnected from the rest of the map gave it a sort of serenity whenever we never had to deal with errant junglers/mid laners or those vile ranged top laners, so much so that sometimes you get to just witness the two top laners shake hands and agree to "farm and chill" and that's what they do, and if a jungler tries to ruin the peace they are summarily punished as their ally top laner sits back and the enemy top laner caves their skull in.
I play mid when I play to win (as it is easier to pick up 2-3 kills mid and completely render enemy bot useless) but when I want to play for fun, I queue top.
I think the big issue of top lane is related to modern Riots approach to champion balance. Riot themselfes have stated time and again that they no longer balance around "fairness", they dont care if this game, as a competitive experience, is fair or makes sense. They balance League around "fulfiling the power fantasies" [riots own words] of the players who play specific champions, so when a champ becomes popular, they buff him. As the righteous 1v1 experience of League, top lane is where you are the most exposed to the balance monstrosities that this design mindset has brought us, and where this champ meta is so omnipotent that it actualy overshadows player skill. This is why the same 3 champions have 60% presence in top lane on all elos from bronze to diamond in all regions of the world. This is the ultimate lane of meta picks over skill, where stat-cheking your oponent from lvl 1 is often more rewarding than being the most skilled player, where permanently split pushing while ignoring the map and all macro allows you to carry a game much harder than joining (potentialy risky) team fights or roaming. The days of League as a skill based game are long gone, and top lane is the epitome of this condition. This why its known for being frustrating.
It is simultaneously the most toxic lane and the most friendly lane. Never in any other lane have I had other lane opponents spam hugging poro with me and emote at each other and not slap each other until the minions get there. When you are not beefing you are chilling. And that’s fine by me.
As a toplaner i can confidently say that your opinion on top laners mental is spot on. Oh how i love the enormous amounts of copium we ingest on a daily basis.
As a toplaner you forget something really important. The need to actually win no matter of who is the better top player regardless. The delusion and god complex does not matter in the end. It is a simple insecurity that we have. And i say that as a toplaner who has moved passed these so called mental gymnastics. Also have basically quited the game and come back only for arams to kill time. For me toplane is a simple duel. Indeed a supposedly honest 1v1 until the end of the laning phase. After that regardless of the outcome only then it turns into a team game. Mostly due to need or simply being overhyped to prove that you can supposedly 1v5 the opposing team. Thats why most of us turn to teamfights. To show off the difference of toplaners if you are ahead. Or constantly split push and avoid the opposing toplaner until you neutralize his lead and hopefully destroy him in late game, if you are behind. Even in teamfights, if you are behind you avoid the other toplaner most of the time if you are behind, most due to respect out of fear at the very least. If you are a losing toplane and still hand him a free kill by enganging in an unfavourable fight against your advesary, you are basically autopilot throwing. Most of us if we lose toplane, we prioritize beating squishier champs regardless of role only to quickly mitigate the gap between the leading toplaner. Our experience is indeed a constant one upping to the other toplaner regardless of the situation. And we go team oriented when we are behind most of the time. Otherwise very experience of interacting with just one player is getting boring really even when ahead. We always would hunt the best player of the opposing team to beat him just to feel better for ourselves. Until we actually mature and realize this is just a game. If any role is actually dreaming of going pro is toplaners. Being paid to be an overcompetitive jackass is the wetdream apparently, at least we are pretty self aware of it and do not really care that much. If adc mains are the most toxic playerbase, then toplaners are occupying the second place.
Tbf top lane was really fun but after this recent wave of jgls going top its gotten annoying But it'll come back to being fun again soon because midlaners exist to threaten everyonr
As a Toplane Urgot OTP. I was laughting through the entire first 2 min of the Video. an than i simply agreed while smiling. u sir got Toplane down 101% xD
My enemy top laner laner said top diff, because he killed me when he was full health and i was below half. After wiping out his entire team. His teammates and my teammates proceeded to verbally direct him on how to use a noose.
tip number 1. ALWAYS fight darius until he gets his 5 stacks, the 5 stacks reduces his armor by 10 each which means that you can kill him once he gets 5 stacks so dont run away from darius once he gets 5 stacks.
As a jungle main, ganking top lane is strictly about causing mental damage to the enemy top laner and preventing your own top laner from mental booming
I started playing toplane lately simply because I like to play tanks and fighters and the jungle is too much for me LOL. I will never fit the stereotypes and I enjoy teamfights and ganking too much, but at least I'm having fun c:
ok first of all... i absolutly agree with everything... i found myself in your "terrible" descriptions of top laners... but riddle me this pls: what am i, as a toplaner, supposed to do other than blame the team, if, after 10 mins or so, my personal kda is 5/0 and the over all teams kda is 6/12????!????
I am a top laner, never really played ranked, so I don't have a rank, but usually play against gold and platinum and luckily I didn't face too many toxic opponents and if I did it actually was usually the fucking mid Yasuo or Fizz that keeps shittalking... or Riven mains, so I can still totally agree.
tbh, I can't abide solo lanes for the most part, I did my first mid match in likes months yesterday and did very well in it (22/8 Akali) but I just want to roam and participate in teamfights too much so I often get behind in CS and become relient on murderering people too much
Idk, a lot of top laners are pretty chill, relatively speaking. Every role has its spergs, but I would rank it like adc -> mids -> junglers -> tops -> supports. I'm a top laner myself, so take that with a grain of salt, but we're mostly cool people compared to some of the egotistical psychos who play this game. Top is such a snow-ball role, and you're mostly just all by yourself, so you know when it's your fault lol.
That would be an interesting one to try... especially since I'd need to get footage of me playing off meta stuff... I guess I need to embrace Darkk Mane powers
I played exclusively top for six years, and I can vouch for the fact that any champ that is not a masculine, bulky and sweaty man will in fact be hated by any real top laner (the likes of yone, teemo, vayne etc.)
Top lane feels like a volcano waiting to erupt, everyone on the map is doing their own thing than all of a sudden your top laner or enemy top can no longer match or contain the other and boom they just take over the game. The side lanes they are on are being crushed, you dare not go near them unless you bring the team and if they join dragon fights it feels like a tidal wave of pressure. That's why i play the role, i love the level leads and how much of a raid boss you can become. Im a wholesome juggernaut and tank enjoyer, I hate and despise ranged tops and even the cringe try hard champs such as fiora, riven, jax, k sante, yone, and camille.
I'vent played league for 4 years now and I was a top player for 80% of the time, and a weirdo that chooses Top Laners in every other role for 20% of games. I can say this, it felt bad to get a kill if I had help from my jungler or suport.
I'm only one minute into the video, where he mentioned that top laners never look at women, and I would just like to add that the four horsewomen of toplane would like to disagree. (pls don't take this as an insult/negativity, I just came from your mid guide and I thought it was hilarious; I'm assuming the same for this; I love these kind of parodic videos)
top lane is for either sadists or masochists in a bipolar way and every time you go into a game as a sadistic top laner the enemy top laner is also going to be sadistic and vice versa.
I don't play top often (support main), but when i do just to change things up occasionally, i'm fairly sure i fall under the gimmick champions category (teemo XD)
