A lesson in humility, perspective, and skepticism, I dive into everything from the expansion of our universe, to lag and stutters plaguing Tarkov's performance for months, my tests conducted to try to get to the bottom of why this happens, explaining what PlayerRTT means once and for all, and my theory for everything. I hope they clean up the code soon, as I'm tired of bugs that are years old still being a problem or reemerging after several patches. Stuttering and matchmaking problems being examples of the latter. Dsync and weapons reloading changing the magazine (if one is available) when you assemble a weapon after building it in the "edit preset" feature are examples of the former. I've been an actual game tester (EA, Sony, Bandai Namco) and did both alpha and beta testing on PCs and consoles and Tarkov..........is NOT in beta. It's mid to late-range alpha. At best. Especially after Nikita saying it's approximately 65% done. That's an alpha number. Not a beta. Beta is when the devs think it's done and they want QA to test it to see if they missed something or to try to break it and see if it needs to go back or a day-1 patch is sufficient. You don't have screwed up tasks or have half the game's maps missing in beta. I may not know coding itself, but I did see/experience the difference between alpha and beta games and many actions by devs when either they're over worked or don't actually know what they're doing and BSG is showing signs of both. I could be TOTALLY missing something obvious and be talking out my ass, but that's how I see Tarkov at the moment and it's not looking good. 12.8 did bring a TON of much needed quality of life improvements and some of them did make it easier for new(er) players, but it also undid a bunch of work in patches and sometimes I feel like I'm back in 12.5 or whatever when in-raid stutters were still a big problem. Hopefully, some of my concerns will be proven unfounded in the video when I watch it. I love Tarkov, as it feeds a ton of my mil-sim needs, but it sometimes feels like BSG is polishing a new paintjob on a 1987 Honda Civic with an engine that misfires in 2 cylinders and has a 4 speed automatic transmission that skips 3rd when driving over 3000 RPM. EDIT : I've now seen the video and it's AMAZING!!!! Excellent work, dude!!! The scientific method is a powerful tool and you learned a lot about Tarkov as a result. My original comment pretty much stands, just not as "frustrated" or upset emotionally speaking. So anyone reading this comment a second time, thus seeing this update, please reread the original and adjust accordingly. Now having a pretty good idea of what's going on, client-based control, there are new questions. Where does BSG and the community go from here? Is there something that can be done? Is it permanent? Will a fix be so massive that they would essentially be rebuilding Tarkov from scratch? For context for those who don't know how game development works. Sometimes a bug won't appear until a certain component of the game is added. Meaning A+B+C=Failure. Point A could be a "flaw" (unknown at the time, or totally normal but incompatible with flaws B or C and the incompatibility is unknown) in the ambient lighting design. Point B could be the type of rendering used with the flashes of a gun that were sourced from actual gun fire. Point C could be the engine it all gets processed in. The "bug" or visual problem that occurs? The sky is rendered improperly and the ambient light on surfaces, say blue from a mid day sun, flashes pink whenever a gun is fired because the engine (for some reason) can't render both separately so the colors get mixed. The problem? The engine used to render graphics has been in use the entire time and the code used to render the sky also renders the collision and if the collision code is changed in any way, the game crashes 100% of the time when a gun is fired. This example is completely out of left field and most very likely totally wrong is how coding actually works, but it's to get people thinking about coding and how a patch isn't as simple as it seems. Changing code is delicate work. Think of it like Jenga. Each "block" represents a line of code and every time you try to change the code so you can get the stack taller, thus "building" more of the game, you create potential flaws and weak points. You may make a cool part of the stack look like a natural pattern, but you created a weak point in the process. And some times, a string of code is the only block holding the entire thing together and if you try to move that block, the entire thing comes crashing down. So with all of the new information in this comment in mind, I hope people now understand what Vertias is trying to do here. Educate the community on the problems of Tarkov and what may be causing them.

Hey Veritas. I'm disabled now due to a chronic illness that hit me around 2 and a half years ago. I dropped out of CS/Software Engineering at LSU around that time. I haven't been able to work and I am lucky to have a family that loves me the way they do. Because of their dedication I'm finally feeling like I'm turning the tide, although it remains to be seen if I'll ever be the person I was. The point of telling you this is, Tarkov helped keep my worries, stresses, depression, failures, etc at bay. You were one of the reasons that Tarkov helped do that for me. I haven't been following as closely as I used to only because I was taking a break and skipped last patch. I'm hoping to jump in again soon. Anyway, I feel like I've definitely had a huge unlucky streak early in my life. But you inspired me to get better at Tarkov, to try and stream when I can eventually afford a setup, and to invest much more time outside of college into learning to code. You have your flaws, like everyone, but I look past the things I don't like because it doesn't change the big picture. Self improvement is great when you do it for your well being and not for the view of others. Be as happy as you can and enjoy life. Spend time with those who mean the most to you. Im sure you know this, but I only learned it after my downfall. Family, friends, and love in general are the most important things in life. They are the key to true happiness. Viewers will always find a reason to be unhappy just like I have before. However, knowing you have people who would do anything for you, helps put your inner doubts at bay. Though you make great content that is well thought out for the benefit of not only yourself, but your viewers, and the devs. Which is absolutely great. I know eventually it must be a drain for you, when viewers harshly nitpick every little thing when you thought it was fine. Just want to say don't let those shitty people get to you. Read the constructive comments and the compliments. Let those who truly love and care about you be the ones to shape you, because they truly know you and will be there for you when you need it most. Keep doing great things and I wish you the best success, you are somewhat of a role model for me. At least in the sense that what you do is a big dream of mine. It also happens to be one of the few things I could still do from home if I never recover. Obviously that depends if i'll be as successful as you are. Good luck and great videos.

All three of these videos were awesome dude. I have shared them with a bunch of mates, and even link it in Twitter when people are just being whinners about the game not being perfect. Thank you for these.

Honestly the only series I look forward to on youtube right now. So much back end reasoning, differing perspectives, and just general information dumps. Hopefully it helps bring in more experienced hands to try and reach that end goal of the ultimate tarkov experience

This series was absolutely phenomenal man - it's given such a broader understanding of a game many of us love to hate, but keep coming back to.

One of the few videos that left me speechless. The effort put into this is astronomical. This video cements my decision to go into Software Dev/Game Dev. Whatever you do, do it well and do it with humility. That’s what I’ve always been told. You are the living example of this. Thank you for what you do. You are a great role model. Thank you.

This is an amazing video. I've been hooked on your getting Tarkov'd series and can't wait to see more. Absolutely fascinating and I really hope that this gleans some positive results, even if it's just a better understanding of the issues when they occur.

Kudos brother. Trusting your intuition that's in sync with your knowledge and experience, while stripped of an ego, is an amazing achievement by itself. Your visual dissection of the game mechanics is very important as it gives an insight to the "younger" population (whether by age or by experience) and makes them instantly "game empathetic". THANK YOU for doing this and I"ll keep on watching and lurking in your Twitch channel while equally enjoying your moments of sincere joy and (baby)rage, just as much as your brilliant interludes of guitar and keyboard. P.S. sorry for "Ze English" - it's not my first language 🙃

I must admit, and sorry for my French... I fucking love your videos Veritas, and I love how engaged and dedicated you are to the projects that you set yourself. You have my utmost respect! This video can and should be used not just for tarkov, but for every single multiplayer shooter where people gets frustrated about the game and starts blaming the devs, game etc.. I have nothing else to say than, you really hit the top of the nail with your in-depth videos!

Thanks for the video. I have of course like you and many been experiencing similar problems with the stuttering. It is a great support knowing these issues are being brought to light in this considered and informed way. Also as a youtube and twitch viewer/audience it is also good to have 1) the direct contact with yourself and 2) the knowledge that your ideas are not falling on deaf ears...as in you having a direct contact with Nikita. Well done for perservering especially with overcoming the negativity and for looking passed the trolls and toxicity. I watch the pogcasts you do with Jesse and enjoy different perspectives. As for your gaming well keep going and maybe one day I can try and shoot you if you ever venture into european servers.

I was thinking about this video more. I guess my take from an emotional, coping situation, is that I take these micro stutters as a form of Fog of War. The chaos of not exactly being sure if your bullets are going to hit true. That is how i deal with it. How I live with being "Tarkoved". How I try not to be salty. I've a good guess that the opponent is over there and I try to click on head. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have a crappy internet, I live in a rural area. But I love the game. If I'm eroding other's enjoyment due to my slow connection, I'm sorry. I play very ratty, picking my battles very specifically. My survival rate, which I know is meaningless, but for the sake of showing my cowardness is sitting at 71% at the moment. I run away. A lot. Running a night helps a LOT, avoiding PMCs like the plague. But I enjoy this play style too. It is not just necessity. Veritas, this series has been enlightening. I've really enjoyed learning more and I hope the game evolves with some of the things you have brought up, in mind.

This video is actually amazing, i am really inspired by this, being a new game developer i am really looking forward to bring this kind of issues to the table. the part where you said short comings and misunderstood really hit me hard. Thanks for this and keep up my man, going through something similar. Keep making great content.

This is amazing! What a fantastic breakdown and holy crap you put a ton of work into this. This explains a lot of what i have experienced, and it makes me feel good to know that someone has figured out, at least to some extent, what is going on and proposing an idea, rather than pointing blame. I am def guilty of getting mad, maybe even unreasonable about the gameplay experience, and if this does end up fixed in the future, I am hopeful EFT will become an amazing experience. Again, thanks for all the hard work you put in, it means a lot.

I usually dont comment on videos but I have to say that one of the main reason I keep watching this series and wait for the next episode is because the script is very well written (or at least for me) and the delivery of it is on point. The content is super interesting and digs deep enough that the majority of people watching can understand the concepts talked about. Great series! I want more :)
