As someone who first had therapy with BetterHelp (with a very mixed experience, it wasnt the best) and then moved on - what you're saying completely resonates.
guys I get if the background music is annoying but this video is very well done! especially for only 26 subs. You are such an eloquent speaker and you definitely have therapist vibes lol! I wish the best on your RU-vid career!
Thank you for talking about this!! I can see how this platform may be helpful in some sense but this is not and never will be the equivalent to seeing a legitimate therapist.
I was seeing a psychiatrist who was walking distance from my apartment and she started only doing online appointments so I just stopped seeing her and never replaced her with anyone else.
I am a BetterHelp therapist. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I wanted and needed the extra clinical experience. Just like everywhere, you have good and bad workers. I care, I listen, I give action plans and treatment plans, I research diagnosis and symptoms after hours. My messages are always open. I have liability insurance and make sure I am ethical and following protocol. I am a damn good therapist, and my clients love me. I'm grateful for this stepping stone to my private practice.
As a nurse I knew Better Help was not a good platform! It may help someone for a minute just to be able to talk to someone and that is about it! Another big business man trying to provfit off something he knows absolutely nothing about! Thank YOU for telling the truth and not trying to be an affiliate with them to earn a commission like other you tubers are doing!
The therapist can option out of texting with clients if she worked for Better Help she would know this. Everyone is licensed ‼️ this is bogus and clickbait and what’s up with the booty music in the background
Watch till the end. She detonates the bomb at the end - start with 20:38, who ist the founder of the company (a tech company, that is owned by another company, and for good measure let's throw in the IDF). Well done, thanks for your research.
I agree. Text therapy is not true therapy! Over the years I have seen 3 therapists and none of them helped me, unfortunately! I was numb at that time and they had no idea how to bring me out and help me to release my pent up traumas! Not everyone who goes to therapy has a clear picture of what exactly their issues are and a good therapist would know how to help a client get in touch with their emotions and issues! I never found one!
And better Help sold data for advertising (breanking their promise of confidentiality). Despite making huge profits they pay the therapist 30 USD for a video session. So they are not going to attract the seasoned therapists, that's for sure.
I think issue is less that there is music and more that it is mixed poorly. It's distracting because it's too loud. If it was done right you wouldn't have noticed it.
@@theschoolfortherapy I second that. No music is necessary when the content is good (and it isn't a movie that wants to evoke emotions. Or a department store that wants you to spend money.
Thanks for your insights. It's a very interesting perspective. The music didn't really bother me, maybe it was just the volume or music choice which was distracting for some.
Valid points but consider there are people like myself who have never been able to 'unmask' in irl therapy. I don't trust you (therapists). You're a complete stranger who's paid to listen to me. Not to mention the vomit inducing 'sterile' environment of a therapist's office has always made me violently uncomfortable. The soft colors to trick your brain to relax, the scent of lavender and eucalyptus, the little mini diffuser or air purifier on the desk... I could go on. It's not like I've ever had a particularly bad therapy experience, but that environment has never given me even an ounce of comfort and while that's probably worth exploring, it's worth exploring over chat from the comfort of my own home. I will not unmask in in person therapy. When a difficult question gets asked, of course part of me doesn't trust you and doesn't want to answer, but a much larger part just shuts down and I can't even think properly when I TRY to answer. However over text I can answer way more honestly and quickly than I ever would in person. I'm not sure I trust BetterHelp and I have been using it for only a month but I'm deciding to be optimistic because at the very least I'm actually being honest with her which is not something I've been able to do in therapy because I don't trust y'all. Having the screen between us helps immensely so don't knock it too hard. I am still a little wary though. I didn't finish your video because I gotta get to bed but you're making valid points about in person therapy being better. I think it's good to be wary of these online therapies but try to think of them as a gateway to in person therapy. Especially for men who historically have had trouble talking about their feelings, especially in the context of the classic couch therapy sessions. I'm sure there are plenty of customers who are walking out of the BetterHelp experience discouraged, maybe even discouraged from therapy in general because of their experience. But that happens from in person therapy too. Therapists are people and sometimes they suck and make people's mental health worse. It happens. While it's obviously just about making money because "capitalism"... I think it's good there's a few more methods of therapy for people nowadays.
Your occupational distrust for therapists doesn’t seem to be rooted in any imperial evidence of malpractice. So much of our growth is sprouted through discomfort. Sure, there are bad therapists, but that doesn’t change the fact your healing is 100% contingent upon the work you put it. Good luck!
I'm interested in doing therapy with them. As a therapist are you able to make $1,000 a week with Betterhelp? When I look up pay it seems some people say they make NO money but others say they are ablet to pay their bills easily. 🤔
You lost me when you complained about clients wanting to contact you when you are in distress. This honestly just put me off for therapists if anything.
This is really informative, and I wasn't aware of most of this. My significant other is becoming a therapist and loathes Betterhell(p). Would you ever be interested in making a video about common mistakes therapists make? That is something I have been wondering about. Solid video btw
