That is a bad ass machine Joe! Thanks for sharing. Please show us some more of your composting area, nice setup!

Yes, it is! And thanks for the suggestion on showing more of the composting area. I'll add that to the list and get something out soon!

I have one and works great. Had an issue with SP cable but they quickly got another in the mail out to me. It works so good I go up and down my street doing everyones house. I have a small property.

When using the hose, you cover the snout intake creating good vacuum via the hose.
@joegardenerTV
@joegardenerTV 7 месяцев назад
Exactly. The hose connects to the snout VIA a designated connection in the snout.

We just ordered one after watching you. This was after yesterday and we struggled it’s a vacuum type that didn’t work very well so we finally bagged them up. Can’t wait to try it.

Good to hear. Three things you'll want to keep in mind as you use it. First, try to work with dry leaves. It will be much easier to suck them up. Two, it gets very dusty around you as the leaves are being ground up and blown into the collection bag. And three, there's a black plug on the front of the snout that you can take off to insert an extended hose to use it more like a vacuum to suck up piles. But...the plug can detach on its own and you won't know it. Happened to me on Sunday. So I advise to tape it in place with duct tape as an added layer of protection. I lost mine and wonder if it got vacuumed up when I ran over it inadvertently. Hope that helps!

This looks great but what about the critters who lay their eggs or form a cocoon on the the leaves? Do the leaves get shredded and chopped? Leaving the leaves can give the invertebrates shelter and food for the winter but not if the leaves are shredded.
@joegardenerTV
@joegardenerTV 8 месяцев назад
Totally agree, Elleen and you are correct. The leaves do get shredded during the vacuuming. Unfortunately, any eggs or cocoons already in or on the leaves at the time of vacuuming are at risk. it is far better to leave the leaves or rake or blow them for collection to relocate to another part of your property, unshredded in tis case. But, putting them in bags to be picked up by the trash company to deliver to the landfill is something I wish would stop. That's what happens around here where I live and it's such a shame. In those cases, there's a 100% chance that anything living in those leaves will die in the landfill. Better that they be sent to a composting facility at least or better, kept on property to naturally breakdown. I urge people who are open to raking or blowing to simply relocate them to a part of their property where they can just leaves the leaves alone, unshredded. That's always best. For those who want to vacuum up the leaves, there's a much lower risk of sucking up overwintering insects and eggs if you can get to the leaves frequently as they're falling. Before they are populated by cocoons and egge on the ground. And then, redistribute those shredded leaves into garden beds, where they can safely be used by overwintering insects and other wildlife, undisturbed.

No info on the hose attachment?
@joegardenerTV
@joegardenerTV 7 месяцев назад
No because they were out of stock so I had no way to try it and demonstrate it. I'll do an update once they get back in stock. But last time I checked it was going to be several months, well past leaf season for this year. But I am particularly interesting in the hose vacuum and wanted to include that information in this video.

This appears to be such a perfect machine that fits the needs of my property. I am leaning towards purchasing one, but I wonder if you can address a couple of my questions that have come up in the research phase… I have no need for the mulched/grinder intake on the side, but I have read that the non-self propelled model is difficult to keep in a straight line. I have also heard that the non-electric start model is nearly impossible to turn over by pulling. Can you speak to the quality and durability of the electric start module? Lastly, how often do you experience clogging while using this? I have lots of leaf fall, dead fall, and rain in my area. This would help me get them up before it rains, but if I were to run into a wet pile or some accidental sticks, would it immediately clog? Thank you and happy Thanksgiving!

Hello. I have no experience with the model that is not self-propelled, so I can't speak to that concern about it being hard to keep in a straight line. But I don't know why that would have anything to do with the alignment. I think that should related directly to the attachment of the wheels. But I can see how this could be more likely on the non-selfpropelled models perhaps if one were trying to make turns without lifting the front end enough to keep the front wheels from dragging over the ground. That could mis-align the wheels. But that could also happen with the self-propelled model. So I think this is simply a matter of how you execute the turns more than the model of the machine. Again, because I don't have the non-electric model, I don't know how hard it is to start manually. But I will say that the electric starting model still requires a fairly strong pull to start. But I have observed that when you do start it manuallly, it nearly always starts on the first pull. The electric start works well once the battery is fully charged. I noticed on mine when I first got it, I had to use the manual start after about 3 electric starts. But this issue seems to have resolved itself and now the electric start is working consistently. This is why I think it was related to the charging of the battery being less than full when it was brand new. Regarding clogging, I have rarely encountered this. I think this is more prone to happen when the layer is too think, too wet, or too many sticks that end up blocking the intake area. The key is setting the snout at just the right level above the leaves and operating it when the leaves are dry. I don't ever recall any clogs when this was the case. But, if I tried to be too aggressive and suck up a big pile of leaves that had a few sticks, I found that I would just have to pull back the machine and make a quick hight adjustment to the snout, or pull out a stick. But that was always an easy fix. One other thing to consider; on the front of the snout is a round cap. It is there so that you can remove it to insert a vacuum hose if you did want to suck up leaves by the pile or in your beds for example. But, it has a tendency to dislodge. And if so, you won't have the sucking you need because of the cap is off the snout. I advise taping across this with some duct tape to ensure it doesn't accidently come off. I had read about this in reviews, and the cap did come off on mine as well during operation. I didn't realize it when it happened and I haven't been able to find it since. So now, I've covered the opening with duct tape and that does the trick as a work around. It's just not as clean a solution. By the way, I bought the reusable bag since I don't dispose of my leaves but instead, use the ground leaves for mulch and compost. So I do love the design and durability of the reusable bag. Hope that helps but let me know if you have any other questions.

Not reliably I don’t think. I didn’t test it over acorns so it might be good to see if anyone else out there has tried it for that.

I have a question about a company’s product that I see on your website, ect. It’s Milorganite that is made from sewage in Milwaukee, WI. Recently I read an article that the University of WI Steven’s Point tested many private wells in WI and found PFAs and it comes from various sources including sewage. Do you know if there has been a third party that has tested this product for PFAs? The reason I ask this is it reminds me of around 2017 when I seen Jumping Worms for sale and now we find that they are eating our forest floors at a high rate of speed. They were sold with the promotion of turning over compost at a high rate. A nearby gardener also has an issue with them in his garden and he has done videos on how he’s trying to eradicate them. So it’s important that we figure the PFAs issue out early before we spread it even further as it is called a forever chemical that is not easily broken down in nature. They are finding PFAs in wildlife and aquatic life in ME, FL, MI and WI from the last article I read on that subject.
@joegardenerTV
@joegardenerTV 8 месяцев назад
Unfortunately, PFAs are omnipresent these days, showing up in many products and household consumables, including our drinking water. It's a huge issue and very widespread. There are many studies being done to identify where they are and aren't, but the products that contain PFAs are used frequently in the manufacturing of various products, from clothing to cookware; you and I likely have PFAs in our bodies now.
