I'm from Durango. Born and raised, 5th generation. My son's are 6th and my granddaughters are 7th. So we've been here for a wee bit of time. So I'd like to give some insight, if I may, and maybe answer some of the comments. YES! Rent is very expensive here. Its ludacris. Trust me we agree! We are a tourist town ( River rafting, hiking, mountain biking, camping, the train, and a ski resort. Just to name a few.) and a college town. I happen to work for the train for several years. So I would like to correct her when she said that the train passed by three times a day... Not entirely true. At peak season there are four trains that go up to Silverton and they return later making a total round trip at 9 hours. I'm no mathematician but I believe that's eight times that it passes by through the summer. Mind you, these are all old steam engine trains and run on a narrow gauge track. These engines are BIG, and the whistle is extremely loud. You'll hear it loud and clear because the conductor blows it probably 500 ft from where that property starts because he's crossing over a road. I'll put it this way, I grew up 12 miles out of town and on a good day you can hear that whistle blow at my house. So you can imagine what it sounds like in town. But I will say the train is very cool to see. The trip up to Silverton and back is gorgeous. Absolutely worth doing if you ever visit. I would like to also give further insight on the river. I found it amusing that she did not explain the name of it, The Animas River, which means the River of Lost Souls. There have been many fatalities on this river. Its not common to have it majorly flood but it does happen. And when we have spring runoff, that bitch rages! Its scary. If we've had a big snow year I will say not much of that little Island is above water during runoff season. Just sayin'... As for wildlife she forgot to mention several common ones. Raccoons and skunks, which love the water. Elk, and moose that are easily twice the size of deer and don't "prance". They are massive animals. And how could she forget the coyotes, bear and mountain lions... I believe those require no explanation. With that being said, I live in one of the most beautifully breathtaking and mind blowing places in the world. But beauty comes at a price. It comes down to what you're willing to spend to have good mental health and well-being? Not only for you but you're family and your children. If you've made it this far, thanks for hanging in there. I know this was a long comment. But hopefully worth a read. 😔😂

One of my questions was if that river floods, does it flood the tiny village if it can flood the island?
@shezsmith6775
@shezsmith6775 10 месяцев назад
Packed together like sardines on flat land surrounded by a massive river.....yeah...no. Not to mention up to 1000 a month, NOT including utilities! For a tiny (no pun intended) spot of land! Hate to be so blunt but living in such close proximity to others (especially musicians)....it cannot be good. Add to that....I wonder what the flood insurance is like there. This sounds more like a massive nightmare, then a tiny dream.

I saw a video on one in Florida that was right maybe a couple of feet from a lake and I remember thinking yeah that's gorgeous until the flood waters rise in your home is washed away. But this one definitely is beautiful with all those trees I haven't seen any other Villages that have trees

The rent seems quite expensive considering that it doesn't include utilities. Tiny houses aren't so cheap to build nowadays. You build them to reduce your cost of living and have a chance to own your own home, but if you don't own property or have someone who will let you live on theirs, you are still at the mercy of a landlord who can keep increasing the cost of the rental space. Plus how many years does a tiny house last that isn't on a foundation? Do they go up in value if you want to sell it?
@wigglydragon7447
@wigglydragon7447 10 месяцев назад
That did seem pretty high since it excludes utilities. Otherwise, if it's including them and based on size, it would make sense.

Amen. It's challenging to find Tiny House communities that are reasonable. More co-ops are needed. There is one Park Model co-op community in Show Low, AZ that charges $105/month and includes water, sewer, trash. There are 2 other communities where you buy the lot and the PM and they only charge $150 to $210/month, which includes W/S/T. Otherwise, I've looked elsewhere in AZ and other states to no avail. Most all charge $450 to $1025/mo lot rent. How are you saving money paying that much?
@roserocks1979
@roserocks1979 10 месяцев назад
The prices are crazy. I wouldn't pay that much just to have a place to park my house.
@Tsusday
@Tsusday 10 месяцев назад
@@roserocks1979 Yeah, it's the same price as renting an apartment here in most Canadian cities (not huge cities like MTL/Toronto tho). At this point, might as well buy some remote land somewhere, cuz in two years, you'd waste as much money as to buy an empty lot. I'm pretty sure these guys still have municipal taxes to pay on top of the plot renting fees... This tiny village is actually the anti-thesis of what tiny houses stand for as far as communities go, we build tiny houses to avoid the burden of hyper-capitalism, foreign residential actors, to live a more balanced and free/independent capitalism.
@sincerelyfelicity2273
@sincerelyfelicity2273 10 месяцев назад
It’s pretty on point for this area. I live 30 minutes away from this and the millionaires moved it and forced the majority of the locals out due to increasing rent prices. It’s turned into an absolute tourist town and a lot of people who work there can’t actually afford to live there. They end up living in Aztec, NM or Farmington, NM. I definitely wouldn’t pay that much for a tiny lot. It was more than my mortgage on an acre of land 30 minutes away

I was going to say the same thing, I want a tiny home for affordability but with paying over a grand a month I can pay rent somewhere. I want my own tiny home on wheels so I can go somewhere to stay or take it around. I get the community spent though, some people want a community but just to live tiny and cost isn’t an issue for them.

@BoondockSaintRyan
@BoondockSaintRyan 10 месяцев назад
Beautiful community with beautiful people and homes. But one has to ask.....when will lot fees come down to Earth!? One of the main reasons people are going tiny is for cost of living. $675-975 for a lot!?!? AND NO UTILITIES!?!? There's no way, in any city, province or state, that the landowners' costs require them to charge $975/month. There needs to be a better, more cost effective model. I want my mortgage payment to be less than that. People need to band together to split the cost of land, and pay their share, depending on the lot sizes.
@lindathompson4770

Sounds nice and a good location. The train three times a day might be annoying. But those lot rentals doesn't make it affordable and will probably encourage other villages to raise their prices. Even tiny living will not be affordable.

I don't see the point. A tiny home village looks like an expensive trailer park to me. Throw in the added storage lockers and you have to ask why is this different than a house ? To me the embodiment of a tiny home is in an urban environment and its done to scale down your footprint and de-clutter. I lived in a 250 sq foot apartment for a couple years and it was great.
@CharlesNelson303
@CharlesNelson303 3 месяца назад
@@wadeeb That's what it is, a more expensive trailer park. Trailer parks don't get a bad name because they are small structures close together. Its because of the types of people who typically live in them and how poorly they are constructed/maintained.

I like the idea but would only do something like this if it was affordable. Never owned a home but at a minimum I would be looking for a long term lease of the land and a very clear understanding of the fees for water, sewage and other. The only people that would do this would be looking to stay within budget and sacrifice by reducing their footprint on the planet. Real Estate generally isn't about being a good humanitarian. Its mostly about making big money. Big money gets more big money. How does this really help us?

Hi Jenna, I’ve been told of a house, called the cheese wedge. It looks like a pie shaped house in Seattle proper. It’s historic because the couple split the lot, in which, their original home was after a divorce. So a tiny home was built on end of their corner lot. Do you think it’s possible to do a video on those homes? I love your videos. The tree houses and odd/unique homes are a favorite ❤️

Beware of that pickup artist ^. For some reason there a number of them who address women with pretty photos. This one has a fancier line than most, but note that he has also pasted the same comment to several others. I suspect there's a con or scam involved somewhere. Take care!
