You're right about it being a constant battle. Especially, when you're standing in a bed in the grass with no above ground mound and you're covered up to your knees in the demons and didn't know it until they all get the signal to bite at once. 😡 A nurse taught me to keep a can of hairspray close by to cool the sting. There's something about the propellent that works... sometimes.😁 Have a blessed week! Tell Kimnem I said hello!✌️💖🙏🇺🇲🤜
The best ant poison I found, and I've tried all to store boughts, is Bifen L/P. Local co-op sells 25 lb .bag for $26. Granules. Doesn't take much. Use as directed. It will eliminate every type of ant in 12-24 hrs. Had tens of thousands of carpenters in a patch last year. Sprinkle, soak, gone. 18 hrs. I have a huge garden and about 1-1/2 acres of yard to maintain. Only takes once.
Good tip! When I lived in Florida I stepped in a mound, they about killed me, I hated Florida for that reason, too many dang bugs. lol. I can't believe you stomped them, I envisioned them up to my knees, lol. God bless!
30 years ago in north Alabama we had no fire ants or armadillos. That is no longer true. Our local CO-OP sold me The Anderson’s Duocide that knocked out the Ants. For the armadillos the sprays with castor oil worked for me. None of the cayenne pepper or moth balls remedies worked for me.
For what it is worth, I would use a granular bait if the ant mounds were directly on my vines and drench the mounds if they are near my vines. I'm assuming the bag of ant killer needs to be watered in to activate? Probably bifenthrin? Another option is to buy liquid bifenthrin and drench the mounds with a gallon of water and a 1/2 - 1 oz. mixture. You will save even more $$$$. Buy generic brand like bifen it. Shop around and you will find it dirt cheap.
Hey Shane, GREAT PODCAST!!! The only episodes I skip are the huntin' & killin' topics. Like you I've had issues with my last four attempts with bareroot scups. I just amended the heck outta my clay spot and now have some live plants from Bottom's Nursury in there. Maybe my luck will change. QUESTION...do you sprinkle your fertilizer on top of the weed barrier? Thanks from Huntsville...
Amdro is bait, not killer. The workers carry it back to the mound and feed it to the queen. Once she dies, the mound dies. The last container of Amdro I bought from Amazon didn't work at all. For $20+ i was a little bit irritated. I have mounds that are 2 feet tall in my pastures. We broadcast the ant killer around the yard 2x each year, and it seems to keep them under control. I cant afford to do that on the whole farm.
I put over and out granules twice a year in my yard and never have any mounds come up. I only have half an acre so not sure if it’s economical on a large area
I live in Tennessee. I planted 4 muscadine vines last year and did everything I was supposed to do to my vines. They made it up to the top wire and down the wire about 6 feet on both sides and looked really healthy. Then this year the vines look dead on top but all 4 have lots of green growth at the bottom of the vine. Do you have any idea what happened to them? I'm so bummed about it! Thanks for any advice you could give me.
