Hi, I have a small vineyard here in Sicily. The way you have pruned your grapes is totally different than they do here. They cut everything way back and only leave 1 or 2 short branches. And they have alot more plants per row. I'm very new to this. I'll be checking your past videos for some ideas. Thanks.
Thanks for the heads up! This is where garden journals really help. I note these type of things throughout the year with a date and description of problem/remedy. A bad Ambrosia beetle infestation several years ago is what made me keep one. We all have a lot going on (you especially) you simply can’t remember all the things you note in your garden throughout the year.
Thanks for sharing this. I am still a newbie to growing Muscadines. I'm always concerned about deer munching on the leaves. Didn't even think about worms or Japanese beetles.
Shane, I saw exactly the same worm on my muscadines this morning. I started spraying the vines with BT which is what I use to treat caterpillar and worms on peaches, nectarines and tomatoes. It’s considered “bee safe” and has proven to destroy tomato horn worms and everything else that is a worm or caterpillar.
Hey Shane ,I apologize if I've missed you ,I've been so sick 😝. No damn way😳! Will the spray kill these jokers? That's devastating the Fkn damage they did,( I'm a Chef) Haha I think we talk like truckers 🤭. I say a prayer for your grapes my dude👍 JO JO IN VT 💞
Sorry about your flea beetle problem. I already had to spray for aphids which is very early for my area. My bigger problem is I planted 6 bare root muscadines from Ison's and only two are growing. Two other vines produced a few leaves but the leaves dies off. The last two vines form Isons never produces a bud. I cannot afford to ship 6 and only have 2 live.
Yep Shane we get so busy we don't notice what's in front of us. You probably caught it in time. Hey I got a Pomegranate bush from Isons, such pretty leaves and blooms!
Hopefully after you spray, that will take care of them and the plants will bounce back. It's always something with the pests My blueberry bushes were being stripped of their leaves, and I didn't notice until two of them had nothing left but 2 or 3 leaves left. Now I have 2 bushes full of berries and no leaves, so I'm not sure if the blueberries will continue to grow normally or not. I found out they were infested with leaf-footed bugs. I can't seem to get rid of them. I've sprayed neem oil and spinosad, and the leaf-footed bugs come right back, and they don't seem to be any less than before. So heartbreaking.
I have 4 little muscadines that I just planted. I put them around my little garden so I spray them when I treat the little garden. I use 7 dust too. Good little product and a lot safer. I also use bt
Yep, it’s frustrating isn’t it? Happened to me too but my problem is army worms. This was the first year that my two grape plants produced blooms. Army worms stripped the whole vine, leaves and blooms. I heard BT was good for them but I didn’t think about it at time so I used Dr. Jacks powder. It’s spinosad Oh yeah, they got my blackberry vines too. 😡
I had those little tiny worms eating on my pear and apple trees. The brand new apple trees I got from Ison's!!!! Never had that issue before on any of my trees. It almost looked like we'd had a frost and it burnt the very tips of the branches/leaves on the top ends. I sprayed with Bt. seems to have got them. I also sprayed my entire garden with Bt. Now it's rained over night. As soon as things are dry, I will spray again.
Flea beetles are really annoying with baby greens and stuff. Maybe planting trap crops of radish or something will deter them/put them in one spot where you can really hit them back.
I don’t see any of these worms now, but I’m off to go grab some liquid Sevin tomorrow just in case. My year 2 vines are looking so good right now, and I don’t want to risk any damage. Thanks for the heads up
