A very authentic reflection of airline travel in the 21st century! And as for personal space, there's no other place outside of a plane where we'd sit that intimately close with a complete stranger for so long! And I think they'll just keep squeezing more people in until we're basically just cattle. I see you got the cattle feed anyway so we're half way there already. Cheers for this, reminds me why I tend not to fly long haul anymore.

The last time i returned from the USA to the UK was with American Airlines. It was an evening flight, no food or drinks were served. Never again !

The most shocking thing about this video was the amount of ignorant people with their bags on the seats when you boarded that train.

Why oh why do people applaud when the aircraft lands? I read an article about cabin crew recently and they said they find it really insulting. Still, if it’s a Boeing these days, maybe it’s just sheer relief nothing’s dropped off mid flight…

A couple things about American (AA): 1) They’re a lot better on long haul flights than on shorter ones. On those, the seating is spartan and cramped. 2) You didn’t experience the patented AA Rolling Delay. That’s something they do where your boarding time comes and goes without notice and they quietly push your departure time back by 30 minutes. That time comes and goes without notice and they repeat the process. Over and over again, telling you as little as possible while you’re held hostage at the gate. This ends 2 ways…either you’re hours late or they cancel your flight at a time when it’s too late to make alternate plans. This is why I quit flying them (I used to be platinum) and am now happily with United. They aren’t perfect but are way way better and usually pretty good.

Talking about planes, trains and automobiles, my last journey back from Florida was a car from the hotel to the airport, a flight from Orlando to Atlanta, another from Atlanta to Manchester, a train from Manchester to Deansgate, then finally a coach from Deansgate to Bolton! 🤣

We flew American last year and the flight was the best we’ve been on. We flew Heathrow to jfk seats were amazing, food was great, cabin crew absolutely fantastic and would fly them again. Think you must’ve had a bad experience that’s all.

what was with the clapping? must be a thanks to Boeing for not having something fall off the plane... I've travelled once in a Dreamliner, most uncomfortable journey ever and will never fly with the airline involved again.

The 777 was originally 9 across in economy but now they are 10 across to sell the extra seat.

I flew with American on my US trip, but didn’t really have any problems apart from the seats being cramped & the American food they give you. Pretzels make me wretch. One thing I love about the 777 is the sound from the GE90 engines. The largest & most powerful on any passenger aircraft, I’ve heard.

Regarding trains, last time I flew in to Heathrow was April 1st 2020:on the last BA flight from Sydney (not allowed to get off in Singapore whilst cleaning/restocking plane and was on it for 24 hours, horrible but I digress) and because the holiday was cut short for obvious reasons, meant we had to try and book a train at short notice from Euston to Birmingham and Avanti wanted over £300 each for two of us. My father in law in the end drove down to collect us on the very empty and quiet roads. Doing a trip to Toronto and New York in September flying back from Newark (staying in NJ near the Holland Tunnel) and driving down and parking at Hounslow to avoid mucking about with trains again. Great video as per usual.

24.5 year old Boeing 777. Shocking to have such old aircraft on long distance flights.

I fast forwarded as I had watched the premier last night got to when you were checking out what train to get back. Overall a great review, the first time we flew to NYC we went with AA and they were very good and another time went with BA and they were awful, then with Virgin Atlantic loads better. The latest NYC series you did was very good 👍

I flew on AA from Heathrow to JFK in May last year and then back in June. Honestly, the service was quite good. The flights were on time, and we arrived at JFK an hour early and at Heathrow 30 minutes early. On both flights, the food was good, and throughout the flight, the attendants offered drinks, etc. Also, if you book the main cabin, you can choose a window seat for free; I have tried it myself.

You showed about 100 reasons why I don't fly economy anymore, I swapped to business class as I don't fly so often so use the saved cash for comfort. My route Saigon to London or Birmingham is best served by Qatar or Emirates, have tried Vietnam but they advertised a direct flight but on boarding found that direct only means the flight number. Did a one way on Air France and they lost my luggage. My company sent me to Canada on Canadian back in 1994 they were great, but the local bus flight on Air Canada was a no thank you. Pam Am was good even in economy back in the 1970s on a 747. I've now settled for Emirates as they have a limo service for the to, from airport runs. But the main reason is the A380 Dubai to UK it's fantastic, though I do have to put up with the B777 Saigon to Dubai. The Qatar lounge is the best but hey the A380 out ranks that.

It’s all a con less staff but no more discount. What amazed me they even reduced the quality of the boarding pass and sticky labels for the baggage. Much quicker and more pleasurable to arrive at the desk and be greeted by trained staff to help you

This reminds me of why I like coach holidays in Britain. I did the airport Spain / Tenerife when I was younger and I didn't like the queueing. And the cost of the passport and all the other things, what goes with it? Booking , airport taxis & paying for them , things like that. Where as a coach holiday It's cheaper / and you just get on a go..🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Thanks for another enjoyable vlog, Lee. Airlines have been squeezing more seats into long-haul economy class (Y). Boeing designed its 777s to have 9-across seating but *most* airlines today have increased this to 10-across. Similar with the 787 (Dreamliner) Boeing intended airlines to install 8-across but almost all 787 airlines went for 9-across (including Qantas). As for comparing the A380 withe the 787 ... the former is universally praised by travellers whereas the 787 gets mixed reviews.

Like many people, this country has its problems and maybe some of these have been deliberately manufactured, but the Green landscape of Britain in the summer takes some beating and you have commented on this on quite a few occasions. 👍

I have done that trip so many times (including the follow on to Nottingham). I don’t judge them like you did anymore. I look at the safe departure transit and landing. Your flight was incredibly efficient and professional. You’re safely back and you even met up with your bag.

Lee I can remember when going to the Airport and checking in was a pleasant experience, not any more it is a nightmare. The only way is First class, even then its like cattle class at the Airport. The only way is the Private Jet, from Teterboro to Farnborough. P.S. On east bound flights the food is guaranteed to be worse than awful, you should have got a Pizza. Looks like everyone was glad to get off, they were clapping

Lee Great Vlog!! Seriously though, You get what you pay for. I fly this same flight 3 times a year- and would never dream of booking a window seat all the way back in row 37. I would have grabbed an aisle at the first opportunity- Ah! but that would have deprived us of the video of the take-off and the picturesque shots of London on the right side of the plane as you land. (The sacrifices you go through just to bring us such fun footage)! The window seat back in row 37 is just as tight on BA, Delta and United. - Jet Blue is better. Next time spend a little money- or try to use some of those miles to at least get a premium seat -up in row 20, or 21 or 22. You will be glad you did- but of course it would not be as half as entertaining as watching you be squashed like a mashed potato. Also No-one really eats breakfasts anymore-even if you are lucky enough to be flying premium economy- its cold unripe inedible fruit -along with the perfunctory Yogurt-and cardboard bread- and again that is what you will get on competing carriers. Still it would get boring if you loved everything about your travel experiences I suppose. Its so much more entertaining for things not to be quite right!

From Heathrow you should off got off at terminal 3 or 4 got on the Elizabeth line bigger batter trains better journey to Farringdon road then circle line 1 stop to kings x

OMG Lee, I remember going to JFK by BA return and 5 nights in New Yorker for £900 for 2 people 20 years ago. Plus it was almost 2 dollars to the pound. How times have changed. My late partner used to fly to New York regularly on business and said Delta and AA were awful. Great video by the way x.

I agree, the 380 Airbus, is more roomy than the Dreamliner. I flew from Doho to Oslo, on the Dreamliner, very cramped. Did not enjoy this flight from Doho to Oslo on the 787. I will Hopefully avoid the Dreamliner on my next trip…😂

3 4 3 is standard seating in economy on a 777 for most airlines nowadays. Being 6 feet 6 tall I always have an aisle seat so that I can spread out length wise and width wise....

Hi Lee, We flew American to New York several years ago as a British airways code share and found it just ok except the cabin staff seemed very mature shall we say, and boy were they rude, asked a female staff member for new earphones as mine were bust and she just said "if I get a minute I'll get back to you"🤷then later on in the flight I asked a male cabin steward for a Bud Light and his reply was "you'll be lucky buddy". Always try and fly to America with BA although I fancy trying Virgin Atlantic next time! Nice one Lee!👍👏👏👏♥️

I always think it very weird when people applaud after a flight. Only a recent thing and doesn’t happen on more commercial flights like emirates . My husband and I always make a face to each other when it happens 😊😊😊

Do you put your carry-on in the overhead bin above your seat or in the one across the isle that you can see from your seat? There is a reported massive increase in on-board thefts from overhead bins, so a recent recommendation is to place luggage in a location that you can actually see *into* from your seat and to watch if someone opens it during the flight.

American Airlines are famously awful. I told myself 25 years ago I would never use them again and I've stuck to it. Use British Airways.

I flew JFK to Heathrow in Sept of ‘22. The seat was so narrow I had black and blue bruises on my hips from squishing into the seat. It was horrible. Then the Queen passed and all my tours were cancelled. It was impossible to get around the city because of the Que. Even the black cabs couldn’t get me near things because of roads blocked off. On the way back I upgraded my seat just to survive. I’m afraid to go back to London in case Charles dies.

We are looking at American for our return trip from NYC next year. Seems we may reconsider but not alot of choice when looking at a decent ££. Looked at Jetblue and £600 more than AA and BA. That seat did look small and breakfast (always idea to bring food with u) we do when we fly from Orlando. Great vlogs MM

I fly from Chicago to the UK frequently with BA. I refuse to opt for an AA aircraft. They tried that trick with my next flight in a couple of weeks and I changed (slightly) my departure time to avoid it.

American Airlines is like the Amtrak of the skies. Horrible.

When I use to work in Boston use to go out of my way to fly British Airways back to the UK, even the Americans I worked with refused to fly AA it must be bad.

Have flown with American Airlines twice on my last two visits to NYC. The first time was a hastily booked flight when British Airways (who we'd booked with) cancelled our return flight in December 2022 due to weather, but we got an extra day/night in New York which BA refunded us for (Bonus). That flight however, was a nightmare. A problem with the planes A/C system meant returning to the gate after taxi-ing, and sitting onboard the plane whilst they waited to fix it, then had to refuel, all which took just over 3 hours!!! Second flight was in March this year, going out from Heathrow to JFK, and in fairness, that flight was better than the previous, no delays and all on time, and pretty comparative to a BA flight service (in my experience). So I've had both sides of American Airlines, good and bad, but I always tend to book and fly BA anyway, as their Flights + Hotel package always works out the best price/convenience option for me, as it includes connecting flights from/to Newcastle-Heathrow. Onwards my friend, and welcome back to Blighty!

I've only flown on American Airlines once but that was in the mid 90s from Heathrow to Miami. I must say though, that compared to your flight, ours was excellent, nice comfortable seats, plenty of room and compared to both of your flights, much wider aisles on the plane, they do seem very narrow today. On our flight too, there was a decent food menu with nice choices and I don't recall any unfriendly trolley dollies. It seems to me that standards have got worse in general on planes from what I can see from those you take and from what I remember. I'm glad I'm going nowhere else anytime soon.

AA is garbage for sure.

We flew AA from LA to Dallas and in fairness it was fine. The only problem was our tickets were for Chicago.

I never expect coach food to be good. I eat before flights and bring my own food. I equate coach class seats with commuter train seats.
