do you have to decompress for a long time when you live down there (and come back up)? wouldnt breathing that pressurized air be similar to scuba diving with nitrogen absorption etc?

They probably built the entire base on land (including installing all the bolted-down equipment like life support, beds etc), put a bunch of other useful stuff in crates inside the base, and only then chucked the entire thing in the ocean. Then they could take food, microscopes (stuff that isn't bolted down), take it out of the crates, and arrange it as you see here. That's how I'd do it, at least.

This is so cool! I've always been obsessed with the ocean and wanted to be a diver since I was little. I have really bad breathing issues, though, and am probably unable to dive. If I got so far down and my airways closed, I'd be in a bind. So, I've never gotten to dive. Still, I get to live through your videos. Thanks for sharing! I love your show. ♥

If the preessure is the same on the inside as it is on the outside, does that mean that the walls don't have to be thick?

There is still a lot of buoyancy, so you need strength for that, but generally you are correct...you don't need super thick walls like on a deep diving sub.

You should do a show on Jules undersea lodge. It’s beautiful, clean, organized. Like a hotel room underwater lagoon. It’s in key largo too. First and only underwater lodge in the US.
