Man, just when I thought I talked myself out of living in my old RAV4 for a year or two, you post this inspiring video. I love watching your adventures--keep on being you!

A good gear item for vehicle if you don't already have one is a portable battery pack to self jump your battery if (when?) it gets accidentally drained. For years now, these packs also have a USB port, in addition to the round 12v DC port. Being a bigger battery than any pocket powerpack, you get much more longevity for tablets and other devices. Two other items is a tire repair kit - the kind with a T-handle, punch/eyelet and gummy rubber strips that look like black licorice. Some kind of tire pump also. If you take your vehicle out on bad roads a lot, one thing I see among off-roaders is a heavy duty jack. The small one that comes with your vehicle is really only made to work on a nice level, fairly smooth, and solid surface.

Great idea about the screens. I’ll order some tomorrow. You don’t have enough stuff in your car though:) But then in my small SUV I do have 3 cats, much more clothes, more tents, tools, art supplies and stuff for when I do a 13 week nursing contract. What are you doing to charge things? I have a Camp Chef Ranier 2 burner stove that includes a grill and pancake tray that is awesome as a small stove confines what you can cook. It’s a great life as a Nomad. I also go to NF/ BLM lands where I am far from civilization. Remember, AAA will not come to help you when you’re out there so have everything you need. Way to go, Corey!

Did a little bit of time in a Dodge Caravan. I dig the vagabond lifestyle and think it may be my full time gig in a few years.... Thanks for sharing your setup.

Very nice!! I was just in my Prius for a few months this year trying it out before heading to my parent's house to wrap some personal things up. I strongly recommend getting a hybrid as a vehicle because of the gas savings and being able to run the climate control system over night effortlessly. Made a huge huge difference. I was miserable in my 1st gen CRV and I can never give that up.

Going to do a build on my Outback so I can live in it full time. I'm 6'3" so I'm taking out the back seat and passenger seat to build a sleeping platform and storage.

Awsome Second Chance. I absolutely love the minimal life style myself. Thank you for inviting us to your home. I myself am living in my teardrop trailer. It's a process of refining what you need and don't need. Live free my friend. Scott (Baja Gringo)

My ex built a teardrop with his father. His father eventually ended up with it and junked it up pretty badly (maybe John will get it back, though ;) It was a real conversation-starter. Most any time we took it camping, it got quite a bit of attention. For two introverts, that was something to tolerate ;) But always nice talking with people. Yes, on needs. One thing I've always loved about camping is thinking about what I could do next time to be more efficient. There's discipline in that, that I like. I take it you are tall in stature, since your nickname indicates otherwise ;) That's very cool you have a teardrop.

Check out the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming. So much free camping it's crazy. (Check out the Elgin area by Buffalo). Did a modify of my daughter's Cherokee. Install a wooden platform under the bed; lots of storage for the kitchen area, and you can do a slide-out for a stove burner that allows you to be under the back hatch in bad weather. Black Nessy behind you! ... Sorry, false alarm, it's just a cow.... or is it?🤔

Nice! I went to Florida last January in my SUV - packed a tent and camping gear and slept in my SUV mostly. It was still cold in Northern Florida so I kept going south. Ended up in the Everglades and stayed in Florida for 3 months. I found that you can stay at the Florida Water Management Dept free, up to 2 weeks annually... . I really wanted to contact you and have lunch or something but didn't really know how to get ahold of you. Just thought it would be fun. Just love your video's!

After trashing my ankle and the whole hiking thing went out the door I sold my Nissan Rogue and bought a Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. Hopefully, I can hit the road by winter and head to AZ. It's been a really tough year here in Missouri. I wish I could be out there with you where it's quiet and green but my van would never make it through that creek and I don't think Triple AAA would come out either, Ha Ha. Keep having fun!!!

That car needs a bath! 😉 My Aunt used to drive around for months living in her Toyota Yaris! Now she has a Hyundai something or other. She's a very small person tho, less than 5ft tall and I think maybe 90lbs or something. She can squish into those wee cars! She has 't done any nomading tho since the pandemic. She has a house in Florida. You are blessed to have, and to be able to take, this opportunity! 😊

At least it's a nicer car, and it's the type that is supposed to get dirty/muddy except for places like Southern California. Stillna good idea to wash it before parking overnight within some town city limits. A vehicle that looks neglected is a bit more likely to draw the attention of law enforcement or people who like to call cops on others. Even though most police are good guys, there are some individuals and even some towns where they actively look to harass nomads.

Thank you, Cory! Just seeing that makes me feel refreshed, almost like I've been out there :) Worked in the yard a little today, and that helps, too. Never doubt for one second whether you are making a difference. I can never tell you enough what a difference you make for me. Like the person who posted just under this where I'm typing, my car is also a RAV4 (hand me down from my mom, a few years ago, when my 18 year old Corolla was in the 205K range :) It helps keep my spirits up, knowing that is shelter if needed :) Cows like that in southwest Virginia, on land held by the National Forest Service, I think. They aren't shy! Would post a picture if I could, from a camping trip there. Hope to see you again, this weekend! Yes -- watering down juice (jugo de manzanas :) Definitely. I can't drink anything like that full strenght anymore. It can be good to have a few calories in water, though.

I know ramen isn't healthy, but did you know that you can get hot ramen by taking your sealed hard plastic container (PB jar/talenti ?), putting water in it, then setting it on your dashboard when it's sunny? If you use a sunshade it works even better when you put it between the windshield and the shade. 🍜 Of course there are healthiers foods to go with the hot water, but I'm no dietician; I'm just good at improvising.

Got any tips for hiking to Stehekin from the Wenachee side? I was a 2019 PCT hiker. Also, last November I spent many frozen 24h days hiking (when I wasn't hunkering or doing the survival water thing) thru the enchantments with a water filter that failed on me. I was very dry and very cold. I walked out on my own to the suprise of some folks. Scrambling over ice-covered rocks is not my idea of hiking, but I kinda had to go after Oct 31st because Semper Gumby does not do well with fixed tourist schedules - not my style.

Semper Gumby is glad you are sleeping horizontal. Warning to others using car for shelter: Avoid sleeping upright in a seat as much as possible. Too many nights upright is asking for peripheral oedema* especially for anyone not young and fit. * Swelling of feet/ankles

I don't buy the neat/messy vehicle thing... When I do my 2-3+ month bicycle trips, and when I lived in my van, everything had a place and everything was in it's place. I could lay my hands on anything easily as it was always in the same place--it also allowed me to cram a lot more stuff into the small space. I also kept everything as clean as possible as early experiences with sand in my soup, wet dirty clothes contaminating all my clothes and sleeping bag, and having food on gear and clothing became unacceptable real quick! I've met many others who use the same philosophy while on the road... I see the neat/messy notion as a specious one!

Shelter and water are way more important. Videos are behind about a week or so so I got rid of my Jeep now and hiked on an animal trail deeper into the wilderness. I did take a stove with me because the fire ban. Trying to live off the land now.
