A new Traditional and classic Christmas Home Tour 2020. Come take a peek inside our 1836 Colonial home all dressed up for our Traditional New England Christmas Home tour for the 2020 season. I'm sharing several of our unique, yet classic, Christmas trees decorated to complement each room.
We have a dried fruit, cinnamon ornaments, and copper cookie cutters on our kitchen Christmas tree, foxes, hounds, horses and mice adorn our hunt theme tree, which is in our New England style sitting room, the Christmas tree in our historic maritime room was decorated to blend well with an oil painting, and the Christmas tree in our family room is decorated with vintage and sentimental family ornaments.
I have more Christmas trees in the home, but I think that's enough to share, at least for now. I hope you will feel like you are seeing one of those beautiful homes you might see in a home and lifestyle magazine.

Most of the rooms I have simplified my Christmas decorating from the past and used a lot more natural decor such as dried fruits, fresh evergreens, ivy, and rose hips from the yard on our on our trees and garlands.
Crimson, Cranberry, and Red are the Traditional Christmas color I used a lot of in this Christmas Home Tour.

This may be one of my all time favorite Christmas decor videos of all times. Heartfelt, nostalgic for you, you use lots of natural things collected from outdoors, and use things you’ve used for years, not just went out and dropped hundreds on at Hobby Lobby. Your Christmas decor is thoughtful, curated, interesting and tells YOUR uniquely personal Christmas story. I was lucky enough to have a career in teaching for 45 years...and I can tell you your teacher loved you dearly and appreciated your happy manner, but wasn't fooled by how hard dyslexia impacted you. I so love all your tree themes. What I wish to share from my heart is that I teared up when you explained the history of your nativity. When someone believes in us, understands who we are at our very depths and expresses that to us, it becomes a part of our souls. When that happens with a relative, it is exceptional but it is something I have never experienced. The chance to do a project with your Father, especially when he recognized the special gift from a unique teacher, is a memory I’m sure you have always treasured. My son is also dyslexic and ironically, his third grade teacher once told me that "Daniel's gifts would not be recognized until he was older," much as your teacher told you. I loved the teacher who gave you the nativity pieces. It also sounds like she also gave you encouragement, love, hope and protection seeing in you, a young child, that you would be strong enough to find your own way and meet your life's challenges. There are several members in my family and amid friends who have dyslexia and ADHD. They struggled in school because their challenges were not recognized. But all of them are smart, kind, good and strong adults with loving, caring and fun personalities! I love your humor and creative personality and you are very smart and great personality too!

Linda I wanted to cry along with you telling your story about your teacher and the nativity. My son is also dyslexic, also class clown, very personable, very athletic, but struggled to read , write and spell, and was teased about it. I know exactly how you felt, he also had a couple special teachers that let him know he had special talents which to this day we both talk about them and how they made a difference. Today he has a very successful business in Manhattan and has told me his dyslexia and ADD was his gift because when you have always had to figure out a different way to learn you naturally are an outside of the box thinker. That nativity set is a god send in more ways than one. ❤️

I truly enjoyed your video; thank you for sharing your beautiful home and decorating. One year I decorated my tree with peacock feathers and copper ribbon with wine/grape colored accents. Your dining room theme made me think of it and that it would be a possible addition sometime to that room. I also find that using green grape leaf or ivy garlands added to a tree make a nice accent and filler for a tree, and it is an inexpensive way to change it up a bit. I used to do open house tours and used many different themes and ideas. I once used a garland of soft pink roses on a small tree for my Victorian table top size tree that I put up in the dining room. I just thought I would share some of these as they are good memories of past tours that I enjoyed doing. Thank you again, and Merry Christmas. P.S. I love the reindeer and the glitz in the kitchen and I am glad that you kept it there!!

Your comments about your teacher hit home with me. Thank you. Here I was, a fun-loving girl, probably with ADHD and very right-brained and immature to top it off. A very few of my teachers inspired me, and those who did mean everything to me. Everything. I am now a retired teacher myself. I looked out for the left handed kids, for so many of us are different learners. I tried to discover the hidden qualities of my students. My favorite “regime” in teaching was called DIFFERENT WAYS OF KNOWING. For that is truly what it is all about. Thank you for your effort in these videos. I so appreciate them. Jan in Kentucky

I am new to your channel, Linda your home is absolutely beautiful I love everything about it. My husband is a master carpenter who also makes Windsor chairs, he took a few classes in Portsmouth, NH with Michael Dunbar. We built a reproduction Williamsburg home, I wish I had decorated more colonial instead of what I did even though I love it. I would have enjoyed your style keeping it more simple and colonial. You really did a outstanding job with how you chose to decorate. I enjoyed looking at your different collections. Beautiful tour, grazie I have learned I had dyslexia at 50 when my daughter was in University and was tested for this. The specialist called me for me to explain how she was when she was little. I thought it was normal! Ok learning right and left (and understanding the concept) at 29 years old is late. We have developed ways of working it out differently than others. Thank you for welcoming me into your home , I had a lovely time ! Instead of making pot puree , why not get out your electric slow cook/crock pot and add fruit , spices , water and/or orange juice , cranberry juice , apple juice . Switch on to ' slow cook ' and wait for the magic to happen ! The result smells wonderful , tastes delicious and you have no worries about it boiling dry and ruining your pan . There's always a fruity , spicy 'hot toddy ' ready to relax with once the decorating's done or to offer to those friends who pop around unexpectedly in the run up to Christmas .

Thanks for sharing your beautiful home. You had a very caring teacher you were blessed. My granddaughter is dyslexic and her teacher said she was just lazy because she was so smart. As a teacher at the time I told my son that she needed to tested for dyslexia. She did amazing with a teacher who specialize in dyslexia. She is now grown married and has an amazing job and at 19 was the youngest manager of a prestigious jewelry store.

Reminds me of how I used to decorate, in the 80's And I have gone back to that Traditional Colonial Americana- I simply love your choices!! Our Home is an old Farm house built in 1879 originally, although it has been updated quite a bit I still have a lot of original wood work, and I still love all things old world and vintage Thank you for showing us your lovely simplistic Christmas decor- makes me want to sit back and enjoy the sounds, scents and scenes of Christmas pasts

When we lived in RI during a corporate move our friends had a home originally started in the 17th century, added on in the 18th century and after made livable for the 20 century a 17th century keeping room without electricity but a large baking fireplace was added on. At Christmas they hosted a Christmas party in the keeping room with only candles! The attire was sweaters, lovely skirts and men in warm slacks. No sweat shirts or sneakers. The menu reflected the 17th century. It was amazing. Your home brings back the simplicity of their home and the love of New England! It is beautiful and loved. The decorations are reflective of much thought. You brought me back to my friends…Rhode Islander and a time I will always cherish. Thank you. I look forward to more videos. Merry Christmas to all!
