Ball Control 10/10, Tactical Awareness 10/10, Passing 10/10, Pressuring opposition and retrieving the ball 10/10, Heart 12/10. Easily one of the greatest female soccer players I've ever watched. It's just... I was just... Like... Oh God. I was just starting to like really enjoy her you know. She is my kind of player. Football is played at it's very best when you have a player like Lauren connecting defense and the midfield. Am gonna miss her. The woman's game needs a player like her, a truly world class midfield master. So sad.

When this tribute was put together, we already thought Lauren was courageous for what she did on the field. Little did we know what she would soon face, fight and survive. What a person she is. She continues to be an inspiration.

I think I've said this before already... My agenda USWNT Roster list is changing and it saddens me tremendously. Your corner kick and Free kicks were like bullets and you helped the team so much with scoring and making a goal in the FWWC final made me soo happy knowing that you are leaving with your name in a book called History. We will miss you Cheney! #ThanksLauren .

It's a shame that Jill hasn't been able to find midfielders like holiday or Lloyd since 2015. Ertz is getting there but our team would be different had Holiday stayed.

+Randy Dubin I don't know the exact link, but she wants to support her husband and start a family... I think she believes it would have been too difficult to do that with such a busy schedule with the USWNT

Christina Wadlinger WOW. The only other WNT player that retired in her prime that I can think of right off the top of my head was backup GK Jillian "Jill" Leyden, but that was due to circumstances beyond her control. (Her sister was shot and killed by her husband in a domestic dispute, and Jill retired to raise her nieces that she left behind.) This is definitely not the case here. I hope that she can come back someday, as she was a versatile player who could play almost any position on the field. I wish her well in her 'retirement'.
