The game changer for me Barry, is for you to keep making these videos of honest and unbiased opinions of gear and everything recording. I find myself thinking allot about how I am going to take my recordings to the next level. Of course, it is dependent on the budget for the best equipment you can afford. Always chasing that. The reality is the most important thing I have learned is the best performance of the source of the recording. That is the real game changer. It is magic when it happens. I want to thank you and encourage you to keep up the good work Barry. I’ll be waiting impatiently for the next video…….

The beautiful thing about the times we're living in is that very expensive equipment can now be rented "in the cloud" using services like mix analog and access analog! I was able to take a recording that was done on a Mackie mixing board and a PCIe interface that was released over 20 years ago and my new mix just sounded as professional as it's ever been.

I love watching your RU-vid videos. You’re definitely a no BS kinda guy! I must say, we think a lot alike. I too, fix everything that I use in my life. Appliances, cars, music equipment, computers et. If I use it, and it breaks, I’ll try to repair it. Much of the time now, I’ll watch a RU-vid video or two before tackling something I don’t already know how to do. It’s great so see people smarter than myself figure things out, and then, like you, share that knowledge with the rest of us. I started recording on a Yamaha four track (ping-ponging) in 1985. Then to 8 track ADAT x 2 > Ableton Live > Pro Tools (no subscriptions for me) > Studio One 6. You mentioned in your video that you’re older than the viewers who are watching your channel. I’m going to share something with you, Barry. That’s not entirely true. 😊

The real game changer is learning your craft. You can have all the gear and plugins in the world, but there’s no short cut in mixing. It take years of constant mixing to develop your ears to where you can easily hear what needs to be addressed or not addressed with the audio. Your ears are what tells you the tool or tools you need to address the issue your hearing. And you have to master using your gear and plugins. If you can’t hear what a compressor is doing or what you need to adjust to get what your looking for, then you can’t properly address the issue. Learning your craft, developing your ears and mastering your gear and plugins is the true game changer.. Love your channel😀😀😀👍👍👍

Love this. I think the last "game changer" of my generation was social media. I remember hearing about RU-vid in 2005 and saying "Holy shit, you can just post anything that everybody can watch for free?" Posted my first music video 17 years ago. RU-vid, man... where would we be? Honestly, I loved growing up without it, but it's so amazing to think that less than 20 years ago you literally had to pay thousands of dollars at a recording school, or just be somehow fortunate enough to know somebody with gear and experience who could find the time and patience to possibly teach you anything. I just had to figure out stuff for myself, from 4-track to Roland VS880's, to Logic. Now I'm back to tape.

Appreciate the video. To me there are different levels of game changers. I tried driving an electric car the other day. Man I long for the day when it’s time for me to change my car. I will definitely go electric. I’m the studio, I’m changing equipment big time. For me it’s a game changer going from Digilink to Ethernet for my audio interface due to the fact of placement of studio equipment and instruments. But most game changers come to me by learning to know new people in my life. Almost every time I get to know a new person, kind of a new exciting journey begins.

What’s considered a Game changer can be different for each person. If something can change your workflow in a positive way, it changes your particular game. Like learning how to use the warping in Ableton can be a game changer, acoustic treatment in your room definitely can be. So I think it depends. Now industry wide game changers are rare of course.

Ive never thought to use this term, but I'd say audio software subscriptions are a bit of a game changer at least for your pocketbook! How much would buying something like the entire plugin alliance catalog be 20 years ago? Slate, studio one, reason, all that stuff would be a fortune! I guess that brings me to the almost standard now $30 plugin. Price and accesability is the new gamechanger but youre right, I hate that word.

Very good video sir. The "game changers" ended around 20 years ago in the synthesizer world when Korg introduced the M1. Audio recording and mixing world would have to be Pro Tools/Emagic Logic (now Apple Logic Pro X) and the like. You want to know what the real game changer is, learn your craft. Learn how to be a better musician/mix engineer/mastering engineer. That is what will radically change your music.

Barry, this time I need to agree with your statement! Basicly, lately I have been starting to avoid some of quite active "home recording" influencers when they have started to be more like sponsored advertisers of big companies like Sweetwater or what ever. Before they use to be innovative and interesting by their own resources. The main reason for their channels seems to be nowadays just to advertise these companies and products to get some new stuff for their own studios. Their opinions have been started to be very biased and insignificant for many of their followers. Just my humble opinion. By the way, I love UAD and used them since 2004... :) 😅

Greeting Barry, I came late to your channel, and yes, initially I have had to wade through those channels who stick a suggestive pose on what they are wanting to entice you to view…pretty obvious nowadays, and ones I avoid like the plague!. I am in my 60’s and loving the digital age and how little you need to lay something down which sounds heck, half-decent (my view naturally :-) ). Keep up the great down to earth views/ information, as this is exactly what people want these days. A appreciative salute from UK 🫡

I felt too many times for that trap to buy new plugins with the idea that I would be a better audio engineer. Just a few tools changed the way I mix but most of it is truly marketing. In the past I tested out every new plugin that came out and really thought that older plugin wouldn't that great but that is just b*llsh*t. Excluse my language. Learning your plugins, finding their sweet spots is so much more important. This will save you a lot of money and makes you way more confident as an engineer cause you know your plugin or hardware very well. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I totally agree on that :)

Buddy Holly recorded great songs in mono across the street from where I sit writing this comment. The commitment to a great song and arrangement were all the difference you could make. It was state of the art equipment run by a man with an obsession for clean sound. Norman Petty. One track and a hand tiled reverb well. Endless possibilities, no. Commitment to a take, yes.
