I have a theory that caterpillars use fuzz as a form of aposematism. Things normally use colors, but in the case of caterpillars, the fuzzy ones are the only ones I know of that can hurt you. So when people see one, they normally feel wary of it until they identify it's a harmless species. I'm guessing the same applies to animals. They try to eat a fuzzy caterpillar, get stung, and never eat one again- even if it's actually harmless. I know that I never handle fuzzy ones until I know what kind it is, whereas with smooth ones I know I can handle them. So, by turning into not just a fuzzy caterpillar but a brightly colored one, this bird is actually protecting itself from any animal that has tried to eat a stinging, fuzzy caterpillar.

Thats a Trionychidae, also known as Softshell Turtle. Technically they are a different class of turtle to what we normally see. They are much more aggressive than a turtle and I cant count how many times i got bit feeding them when i was young keeping them as pets
