Part two of this series. All clips taken in Caledon. This video is mainly concentrated on the locomotive, startup procedure, and engine sound. Special thanks to the wonderful crew, responsible security that walked with all the way WITH a positive vibe, offering reflector-jackets and safety boots. Enjoy!

Real cool video! Brings back memories... Did my trade on them. 34 600, 35 200, 33 400, 37 000, 36 200. My favourite is the 33 400. Sadly the 33s were all sold. You can only see them in Nam and Zim now. The rest are in South America. Real power sound, those! Closest we still have is the 34 000. They still run PE-George and PE-Bloemfontein.

Thanks for commenting. I've seen a few youtube videos of class 33 GE's working metros in PE... but that is all I know of.

There’s one class 33 left. 33-487 is based at East London and owned by metrorail

Really cool video. I've never seen an engine start up before, but safety is a big deal in Canada

Same here Man. They don't allow anyone in the railway yard easily. I needed safety boots, a reflector jacket and special permission to go film My SA railways Branch line series...but hey, it worked and the crew...well they're just awesome!

Kan regtig nie onthou nie Oom, maar skat nie meer as 25 waens nie, want die Sir Louwry's Pass is bietjie baie steil en vol skerp draaie!

Hey Bernard. :) The engines in the video were built in the States, they are GE-type. Some are EMD (General Motors Company's Div.). The only diesels we built ranges from class 43-000 to 45-000 (the latter being a combination of Canadian, US, Chinese and SA technology). And a new Trans-Africa Locomotive or class TAL-2000, but I got no info about mass-manufacturing yet. Thank you for your comment.
