A Unique Furniture Flip Featuring A Raised Stencil Effect - Will You Like It?
This video is a step by step tutorial of a tallboy makeover. I wanted to do something a little bit different for this piece. Below is a list of the products I used for this flip:-

I used a stencil to create a raised stencil design and then cut a box frame using some detailed timber.
I painted the body of the piece of furniture green and then used a black timber stain on top.
To finish off the look I added some new hardware and some black wax.
It turned out really well but it's not going to go down in history as one of my favourite furniture flips. I love the green but think the black timber doesn't go as well as a lighter colour would have.
But... that is why I love refinished furniture. We each have our own unique and distinctive style and what I love you might not and what you love I might not. Refinished furniture enables us to express our style through our home and furniture.

I would have liked dark wax on the whole chest. It looks unfinished. Fantastic idea.

Thank you, yes I’ve had that suggestion a few times now. I just thought it would then just be really dark if I did it all over but I might consider it 😀

I just wanna make a suggestion you should really clean before you sand because you’re sanding all that dirt, grime, and oils into your wood. The dresser turned out beautiful. Great job. I love it

Use a steam iron on top of a wet towel over that stain in it might help raise the grain in remove the stain.

Thanks Janice, I will give this a try next time. I went the dark stain because the mark I was initially covering was a burn mark so I don’t think it would have lifted out.

Curious why you didn’t put black wax on all the drawers. Was it a design choice? Or a matter of it taking too much time (like the framing)? It seems a little unfinished/disjointed to me with the wax not being carried through on all the raised stencils. I kept waiting for you to explain your thought process on that, but you never did.

It was just a design choice, the black wax didn’t take very long to apply and I could have easily applied to all of the drawers however I found with the dark stain on top the piece felt quite dark overall and I though it might have been too dark if I did all the drawers with the black wax. But you could easily do it 😀

You should have used the black wax on all the drawers. It gives it depth and blends it better with the dark stain as well

I probably would have just stained the top but not the drawers. It looks ok though. Good Job!

I love the green and the dark together so much that I’m buying them as I type lol. I don’t think I love the top drawers alone I think maybe all or nothing. But it feels like a. Mossy old tree and I LOVE that color vibe.

I agree. Stop painting solid wood. There’s enough fibre board, plywood and plastic furniture you can paint!

You tubers put their videos out there for comments and to get others opinions. I restore furniture but I don’t do it for others appraisal. We are t all attention seekers. I'm not trying to be rude... However, the stain looks a bit blotchy. And I would have followed thru with highlighting all of the reised parts. I do love the idea and thank you for sharing.
