WARNING: This video may cause drowsiness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery while watching! In the spring I talked about insulating my Trillium Outback fiberglass camper for winter use. By November, I'm still talking about it! I hope to make progress by the next video, but I at least added surf music to keep you from going comatose. Enjoy (or not)!

Yup, some kind of sheet foam that you can put in the trailer while moving and just put up when you set up in new locations. New construction sites often have scraps in the trash pile as they have to orient and tape the seems on houses, but you just need a light weight wind block. Free is good.

Slim, the sound and visual effects were great! And it's not a boring vid at all. One tip from someone who lives in an RV, you can rig the reflectix-type material so that it can be removed. Cut it to shape, run some duct tape around the edges, and you can either install grommets, or simply use velcro tabs to mount it to cover the window. W=Put it up at night, and in the day, take it down from whatever windows you don't want covered during the day. And, you resorted to the one thing everyone who deals with living in a camper in the cold, you put a carpet down on the bare floor. Most effective way to keep from losing heat through the floor. Great video again! Cheers!

Use the plastic window kits with the double sided tape and then you blow dry it and it shrinks works well , I’ve lived in many old houses and it makes a world of difference and you still have your windows, just make sure you attach the tape outside the metal frame

I use the 3M Indoor Window Insulator Kits in my house for years until i got my windows replaced. These work excellent. They work best if you can put the tape around a corner on a piece if trim. But if you can not do that flat on trim of the window. I have even used them on the outside, but not sure how well that will work on a camper when on the road. I quickly learned not to use a hair dryer to shrink the plastic, but to put it on carefully top down keeping it straight and just pulling it snug.

This suggestion might be a little late but carpet pad under the carpet would give you a big increase in heat retention. In my camper I used Velcro strips instead of snaps which worked out really well. The plastic on your window should help a lot. Great video. This will make your camper a lot more comfortable in winter.

I live in my RV year round and I can tell you it’s better and easier to insulate the inside rather than the outside. A trick I use is to separate at night when it’s the coldest, parts of the trailer your not using. In your place at night I would curtain off the windows at your table. What I mean by that is have a curtain that separates that part of your RV with where you sleep and not waste heat where you are not using. Once the sun comes out in the morning depending on weather and how you park those windows can help the place warmup.

In terms of comfort, I would consider having the underside of the trailer covered with closed cell foam. If your feet are warm, you will be comfortable. Short of that, take thin rigid foam and glue indoor carpet to it to form a thermal barrier under the table where your feet rest. As to the windows, I would fashion storm windows buy cutting a wooden frame out of plywood and covering it with 3M shrink window plastic. After applying, it is heated with a hair dryer and shrinks taunt. This will allow light in, but dramatically increase your comfort while sitting with your back to the windows.

CAN TIRE used to sell a shrinkage plastic that was made to insulate windows. The kit came with double sided tape that you put around the window on the wall. Attach the plastic film, use a hair dryer to heat shrink the film. It works pretty well but left tape residue on the wall.

@KG-cl9gv
@KG-cl9gv 3 года назад
So funny- I was glazing over... thanks for the add ins here, it was entertaining that way.😄. The thicker clear vinyl is better than the shrink stuff, but overlap any aluminum window framing, . You will be glad you did. Reflectix on the window, but they say it needs a gap to work better. Then make a window curtain made of fleece material from those $3.00 throws from Walmart . And a curtain of it up to your door, they are so cheap that you can get enough to have them all match, it really helps keep the cold on the other side of them ! really helped the propane efficiency. But that front door, aluminum and glass really was like an icebox until we put up the reflectix and fleece blanket. And all the heat didn’t immediately go out the door whenever-it was opened, the blanket helps ... and keep the cabinets open while getting the place heated, close up after that. My lessons learned. These are cheap and in your place it s one of the “funner “ things to get done, . On the floor I used that connecting mat, it’s spongy, about an inch thick and comes in colors, even wood look. Then carpet over it. It’s quick, not permanent and does give real good insulation from the cold floor

Good video and....not boring at all! Another thought for the windows.... There is a clear plastic product that is designed to be an insulator in cold weather. You shrink wrap it to the window with a hair dryer. I used this year's ago in a house that has very thin window panes and air gaps around the frame. Worked really well! Regarding the carpet, I bought inexpensive area rugs that come in various sizes for $10 at a local dollar general. These work great, especially since I have dogs and I can, when soiled, just hang them outside and hose them and clean them, or put them in a bathtub and wash them. Or, they are inexpensive enough to just replace if need be. I immediately noticed the insulation factor in having these down! I live in a 21' toy hauler trailer.
