A Very Cheap Shave & A Warning 

You inspired me to get out some of the "cheap stuff" this morning: Arko shaving soap stick ($2) Astra SP blade ($.09) Maggard DE MR18c razor (got this on sale for $17) RazoRock Plissoft brush ($9) Pinaud Clubman aftershave (?, but cheap) Very nice shave. Thanks for reminding us that it doesn't take a lot of money to have a good time shaving. (I am afraid that this lesson is lost to most of us!)

The hardest part for me in wet shaving is getting the water vs soap perfect. I’m still trying to get my lathers like some in these videos.I still need to master this! Great vid!

Not fibbing, picked up a brush on eBay or Amazon when I first started wet shaving few years aback. It was around 1.50. I still use and it's amazing lathers up lovely, no loss of hair, and retained its shape. True bargain. 😁

My razor collection is primarily REAL (ie: vintage) razors, including a bunch'a Gillette Techs, Old Types, New Types, Super Speeds, and various adjustables. They all shave great. On a dare, I got a 'cheap' razor nearly identical to yours, but better finished - same handle, and same stainless steel bottom plate - all for under $2. Often cheap is as cheap does, however, in this instance, these little razors are virtually identical copies of the Gillette Tech - the parts will even interchange. It was a sucker bet, since the 3 pass PERFECT shave was identical to that of a real Tech. For me, the Palmolive stick is an import and cost me over $3 - hardly cheap, but it is plenty slick and dense lathering. Now, my ancestors arrived in America over 350 years ago. Legend has it the Finns taught the Scots how to be 'thrifty'. If you seek a truly cheap shave, get one of the little wooden handled badger brushes from a Chinese E-Bay seller. I have bigger and 'better' brushes, but the $4 Chinese brush is my weekday favorite. Cheap brushes, cheap razors, and no-nonsense soaps can provide an excellent shave - but never settle on a cheap blade!

When we all start out in DE shaving. It's because they say it's cheaper then multi blade cartridge razors But we soon are spending hundreds if not thousands on gold razors and 50 dollar soaps..and hundreds on aftershave's and face creams....it never ends...lol....Riley hiding again...He's a bonus for your shave's ...lol We will never see that razor again....lol

The razor appears to be identical to a 3 piece I picked up at the dollar store. "Assured" for men, is the brand. The threads are identical to my old gillette 3 piece razors, but the good handles bottom out in threads before its tight to the cheapo head. im going to make more of a shavette handle for one (i grabbed a few) and then it can be either, and still compact and cheap for travel. break it or lose it and no biggie. Just figured Id try a safety version of a shavette for travel, and it can just take whole blades without breaking them or storing halves seperately.

Man, I don't understand why some people feel that need to insist that you do this or that. I got into wet shaving about a year ago and quickly fell down the rabbit hole. That being said, I explored the different have hardware and software on my own and through other fellow wet shavers found a variety of products across the price spectrum of wet shaving. I've used soap as cost-effective as ARKO, Palmolive, Boots among other less expensive soaps and other more expensive soaps. To each his own, I've never viewed anyone of you guys that make videos that haven't made a video now and then that does a "budget" shave to show that it can be done, and sometimes when traveling etc. If the "shave counsel" funny how their acronym seems suitable to what they truly are, wants to show budget shaves, they should start a channel to do so and let you guys do what you do without the hassle. Great shave. A shave doesn't have to be luxurious. I don't care if a shaving product is high-end or low-end because product quality is what really matters the most. I'm trying to be a cheap person as I can, so whenever possible I can have the best shave on a moderate budget

Heck of a shave, I love these "budget shaves", just goes to show that you don't HAVE to pay a premium to get a good shave, and that good shaving technique and knowing some products that perform well for their low price point is way more important than simply having the latest and greatest products. I see that Wayne Kerr has announced on Facebook that he is launching a council compliant RU-vid channel in a few days' time. I messaged him saying, 'See you next Tuesday?' But he hasn't replied, he's probably trying to get everything ready and online before attention is taken away from him by 'The Whiskers and Tonsorial Services' channel that the high end shavers are setting up. Although the shave was an "El Cheapo", the results were "Top Shelf" shall we say😉 Looked like the Palmolive was the star of this shave, it's not stocked in stores around my area here in the US, so I have to get from Amazon Etc. I’d really couldn’t see spending more than $40 on any razor. My Merkur was about $40 USD Shipped an I know it was an inflated price at the time. I’ve been from starter products to high end soaps, aftershaves, feather blades and what not, then back again but was able to stave off razor acquisition disorder(sort of..I’ve bought three Merkurs) I think I will try a tech clone for a light travel razor. Nice vid dude.

Good Sunday to you Kevy! Yes, that letter...cheeky...C.U.N.T.S. I heard they have this Directorate of Shaving Relations lead by Peter Gozinya and John Thomas...both are said to have penetrating personalities. Best to stay clear! Poor Kevy...forced to use these barely serviceable products. Meantime, back at the mansion in Kansas, the Rex Ambassador arrived. I got a nice discount, plus purchased with my rewards points from the credit card, so I was able to included the nice custom case. Everything is very well made. For something this special, I went into my grab bag from a recent shave meet-up and pulled out the Truefitt & Hill 1805 shaving cream sample and whip up a nice lather with the PAA Atomic Rocket brush. I load the Ambassador with a Brazilian made Gillette Platinum Plus blade (9th use). I got a great BBS using setting 3.5. using the traditional 3 pass shave. Finished with Thayer's AF SF skin toner and the Truefitt & Hill 1805 AS balm. Luxurious. Take care Kevy!

That razor is EXACTLY the same model as: models formerly sold by Boot's The Chemist and currently sold by Rapira and at least one more company whose name escapes me at the moment. Equally, I recall reading that it is in Fact a Literal Gillette Tech Clone as the razor is manufactured in Russia using molds from old Gillette manufacturing machines. I personally own the Rapira branded model. Just passing this along... ;-)

I still used what my Dad & Grandad used Wilkinson sword shaving soap and Erasmic soap for about £2 , I still have double edge blades which are cheap and you get a good shave , doesn't have to be five blades even though my son has bought me them for a present , shaving brush can be £2.49 Wilkinson or Erasmic brand . But the cheapest way to save money is grow a beard 😂👍

I have about 5 razors all around $50 to $80 dollars US. My favorite is a feather razor kit that I bought on Amazon for about $25 dollars US. It is a plastic handle butterfly style razor, 1 pack feather blades and a tube of shave cream. That razor with feather blades is the best I have in my opinion.

Goodness! What a close call. I am relieved you only received an emailed cease and desist from the Council of the United Nations Traditional Shavers. Consider yourself lucky you weren't issued a citation and fined by the Commoner Luxury Indecency Tribunal. I understand they become quite engorged if more friction causing gear is employed. I'm now concerned about who alerted the council. There is a loose tongue about. I would advise that future episodes have at least one budget piece of kit. You don't need an unwanted summons from the larger governing bodies. Especially the Prudent Union of Sensible Shaving Youth. Or much worse, the Traditional World Associates Triumvirate. They can be real sticky to deal with on such improper application of fingers on your grip. I'm confident the snitch will be revealed by process of elimination. Once removed, that used tampon will no longer cause any unpleasantness with these highly regarded bureaucracies. Enjoy your dinner, and weekend. I imagine that deluxe razor will be part of the impending 6000 subscriber giveaway. It proved itself, so I don't think anyone would mind. It's always a blast to get a decent shave with a dollar razor! Almost impossible to get razor burn. I think they can do nicely for travel. I actually prefer using shave sticks like Palmolive, Arko and Speick because they provide terrific coverage and are also travel-friendly.

I already have one of those razors on the way! Its actually branded Gillette Super Blue ($4.27 Canadian with some blades). Can't wait to try it. Great shave as always Kevy.👍

I got that razor from dollar tree and I love it. The thin head is easier for me to use since I’m new to safety razors. The Wilkinson sword blade with that razor is great. 😊

This Palmolive stick real price is not 49p. Definitely outperforms more expensive soaps! This synthetic throws lather in every part in the bathroom EXCEPT my damn face!! AAArgh!

Btw, I'm getting my first real shaver tomorrow, a DE Wilkinson sword classic. I've always had Bic disposable 3 blade ect. Do you have any videos that will help me know how to use this?

The Omega-S Brush is nice, great backbone and acts like a boar brush very well. Like you say, it has scritch to it The scent of that aftershave sounds very refreshing. Impressive shave.

I think the moral of the story is high end razors are simply luxury items!

Technique trumps tools all the time! I don't care what products you use, if you have the right technique you can pickup any razor and get a good shave.

I actually use exactly the same razor, they call it a lion safety razor over here in South Africa

I also started using my cheaper shave stuff instead of buying more high end products in search of the perfect shave, so this video came at a good time. Thanks also for reminding me that the Omega S-Brush -- which I've owned for years -- has good backbone. It's hard to find a synthetic with backbone, and aside from the S-Brush and its imitators they don't come cheap. My issue with the S-Brush is that it starts out very springy. But once it fills up with dense lather, it behaves more like a broken-in boar brush. (I suppose it was designed more for bowl than face lathering, for that very reason.) Now I'll keep my S-Brush within reach and spare myself the expense of a quest for a vertebral synthetic. So thanks, Kevy, for making this video. And thanks, too, to Scotland, for making Kevy!

I have a early 1950's tech razor upon which I assume this razor is based. Its so mild and great for early morning shaves.

Hey Kevy, I too am a Scot but came to Australia in 1965. I am a Gillette refugee who threw Gillette in the rubbish when they turned on the white male. I looked around the net to find myself an alternative in safety razors and RU-vid gave me an array of wet shaving personalities like yourself. My wife is one of them Englanders and she is the tight assed one of us two (financially speaking). Unfortunately for my Mrs. I like my toys and whilst looking for, and certainly seeing, some nice top end shaving gear I made it look good for her when I bought a Rockwell 6C which didn't cost the earth, however, then I saw the Merkur Futur so I bought the Chinese knockoff, then........I saw the Merkur Futur Chrome which I didn't buy but instead turned it into the Merkur Futur Gold the Dovo Sloingen Shavette and when she cools down I might consider the Leaf. Oh! Help me Kevy, where does it all end?

Super cheap shave and super results too!!! You said under 15 Pounds, but it is for much, MUCH less than that. 15 Pounds included all these items that you can use again and again. Also, I believe that the price should not be compared to high end wet shave products, but to cartrige razors and ready-to-use gels and foams. Lastly, compare the result too, not just the price. A shave well done. I think you will not be bothered again by the C.U.N.T.S. (aaahahaaaha) Chairman for a long time. Thank God for that!!! Aaaaahahahaaahahahaa!!! I have the exact same razor but is a Gillette 7 o’clock one, I use it mostly for my head shaves. How would you compare the Superdrug aftershave with the ones you can get from Boots quality wise? Really interesting video. I bought the same razor some time ago when I was first looking at DE shaving (I think I also made an offer of £3 which was accepted), but bought the Edwin Jagger DE89 at the same time and haven't dared use the cheap one! I haven't considered Superdrug for aftershave, but that one sounds really pleasant, so I'll have a look in there this week. I use the Superdrug vitamin E body moisturiser (I think it's £2 for a big tub, and I bought it in the 'buy two, get one half price' offer) after shaving and love it.

Great shave Kev - 'The Council' will be pleased 😜. I bought a razor that looks similar to that and it was a Gillette 7'oclock. Nothing flash but gave up a pretty comfortable BBS shave. Pretty good for a pot metal and plastic device. Think I paid $5 Australian (roughly 3 quid) . The head looks like a Tech with corner blade locators in the cap - it didn't seem to have any particularly rough edges though. The price in India for that razor is like 80 Rupee ($1.50 AUD) .
