Some games are updated in a way that makes them crappier over time. Admit it folks... Admit that you were not always down with changes made in a update... Admit it folks. Why would you blindly go along with whatever changes the devs make in a update? You're a tool if that's the case... Elden ring, Tears of the kingdom, breath of the wild, witcher 3, hell divers 2, pal world etc etc... Have done updates that pissed off many a player. Or maybe they get fixed up but they are STILL broken af in many ways like destiny, diablo 2 remake, or master chief collection. Or how about when devs take perfectly fine remasters of gta 3/vice city/san andreas for 10 bucks each, remove them from the market place, and replace them with a FULL EDITION that costs wayyy more and has broken af versions of the games...... Where some chars don't even look anything like they did back on the ps2....... If you don't have orig copies or the versions that didn't suck before they took them off the market place, you are screwed lol. Ever play dark souls 1 on xbox 360 back in the day? The servers were a joke. You could try to match up with others for over a hour and have no luck. You had to get lucky that the servers would pick you and then it would work normally for 24 hours until the servers reset or whatever. It made playing online 100 times crappier than it should have been and did they ever fix it on 360? Psh no... The most important thing to fix in a update was never even considered lololol. So often in gaming, updating is done poorly af... They even did this kind of crap in gaming nearly 20 years ago with games like halo 2. They updated that game in some lame ways. Made the magnum go from a 8 shot kill to a 13 shot kill which made the magnum far less useful : ( I guess noobs got tired of me John Wooing their azzes into oblivion lololol. In the halo reach beta test the plasma repeater was suuuch a amazing gun. Took skill to hit targets at a distance but if you could do it, it was better than the AR, it's human counter part. Then the game comes out and they nerfed it to hell. Gun is basically useless lol. The way the invasion playlist worked was great too. Only parties of 2 could search. This helped prevent big gank squads from dominated randoms all of the time. Now players had a more level chance of winning. But then the game came out and gank squads were allowed to control who wins 90 something percent of the time. Lame... Nothing more lame than joining a match that you're already pretty sure you're going to lose... Game didn't care about proper fairness. Take a peak at diablo 4. It's latest updates have made the player base largely rage, demanding they deserve better. Take a peak at how over watch 2 basically made over watch 1 unplayable and part 2 is worse in many ways. Especially when it launched unfinished af. Take a peak at collection games like rare replay and see how broken many of those games are, wayyy better idea to play the originals on orig hardware. Just making a point about how devs change the way your games are played without your permission due to online parts of the game... It's not always a good thing that they update the game lol. Destiny for example updates mainly just for the sake of updating. This month pistols are the best, next month it's auto rifles. Change for the sake of change instead of actually making the game better. That being said. A lot of the time updates are for the better. Cyber punk for one lolz. No mans sky? Pretty sure the version of Arkham Knight on PC doesn't crash every 5 minutes anymore lololol. Ever play this bad rpg game called two worlds? The coop mode was so that you could hurt each other lol. Right when the match starts you could endless harass your team mates, steal their weapons, and even put land mines on the spawn area so every time they respawned they would insta die it was hilarious but super broken. They patched the game and now we can't hurt each other anymore in coop mode. Trolls were sad but most players were happy lololol. The way they handled halo 3 back in the day was pretty good I don't remember raging about some change they made... And a indie game I love recently called sea of stars is being updated with some kind of form of coop mode, that reminds me of secret of mana. So yeah, updates can be great! I'm just saying that sadly they are often, NOT GREAT....... You still make a great point though. Buying full price at launch? That's becoming less and less of a good idea all of the time lol. I still remember getting the best version of Skyrim for my Xbox 360. It came with one of the best artbooks I've ever seen for a video game but that was about ten years ago :).

So glad I killed the 100% completion compulsion. It was wavering post college when I had to work 3 jobs. Then I had children. Now it's, "did I beat the game? Great. Moving on." There's a few games I love that I'll keep coming back to (Monster Hunter, LOZ, Pokemon) but for most games now, it's hit the credits and start the next game. Thankfully my kids are also playing the games now, so I still feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

That's something that can be good to break. You have to Steel yourself, to REMIND yourself, "As much as I WANT this New Shiny, I know it'll mostly just collect dust. I will barely get any use out of this." An you have to create your own meaning for what it means to "Complete" a Game, and if that enjoyment is truly worth it in the Long Term. For me I used to love getting Fan Art and other Merchandise, along with Humble Bundle Deals...but then I came to realization that I wasnt really getting much enjoyment out of them. Mostly they were just collecting dust and it was a complete waste of money. Now when I get tempted, I just remind myself of that, which isn't always easy but it's necessary.

_This_ is what's diabolical. Companies promote this culture of compulsive completion and achievement mindset. I think people with compulsive disorders are prone to this.

Remember farming armor in old RPGs?

This happened to me twice in the span of ten days, one person my age, the other older. And the latter, we were talking about a tv show that is unavailable on any of the streaming services, so I proposed to lend my dvd copy to them.

It's wild to me that ppl have no longer a DVD player or DVD drive. I borrow CDs and DVDs from the library all the time, and buy what I really like.

I think it's far less to do with refusal and more to do with DVD/Blu-ray players outside of consoles being pretty much impossible to find. Even for PC the vast majority of cases don't have space for a DVD/Blu-ray drive and laptops are also omitting them in the quest for thinness.

Oh man, I make sure to own physical copies of my very favorite movies and TV shows, because I live in fear of the streaming gods removing them (or going out of business or something) and simply being unable to watch them once they do so. That said, as someone else pointed out, DVD players are becoming less ubiquitous. I have several DVD playing options in the form of laptops and game consoles that I hook up to the TV, but lots of people are moving away from game consoles these days, and many laptops don't come with disc drives anymore (which drives me crazy--they don't take up that much space!).

Especially if you consider that OW2 only exists because 'free to play' with exorbitant prices for 'just cosmetics' is actually more lucrative.

My man, we have been arguing against "just cosmetics" before it ever became a meme and it just got worse and worse. It's already a lost cause. Forget people questioning just cosmetic horse armor dlcs, they now effing worship games with multiple tiered editions, microtransactions, battlepasses and season passes.

Not to mention the market that has sprung from Counter Strike. Now you can buy fictional weapon skins for over a thousand bucks. Cosmetics obviously play a role in games.

Digital Deluxe you get it in game. Physical Deluxe you get ir for real.

The worst thing about the Dead Space 2 situation is that, like with the Digital Deluxe version of Deathloop as Steph pointed out, the special guns and armor actually made the game worse because survival horror games tend to be much less engaging when you have the most powerful weapons in the game falling out of your ass at the very start. I was like you, I didn't realize the items were special and I was wondering why the game felt so easy and it definitely put a damper on my first playthrough of a game I otherwise love.

@@JimDeFran Yeah, when I saw all those colorful icons and all that random crap sitting at the store for 0 credits, I realized it was DLC shenanigans... So I did my best to ignore it and only use stuff that I unlocked through actual gameplay. The bummer about it is that it spoiled the new armors and weapons I would be getting in the future (as they already show up there lol).

recently played dead space 2 and i felt like the DLC stuff kind of messed up the ammo drops as well. watching other people's hard core runs, the consistency of ammo drops to weapons they owned was far more on point (when they didn't have the free stuff). Course, could just be bias on my part. But jarring indeed to see all the items and then carefully navigating the menu to not accidentally buy them

I felt the same with Sniper Elite 3, where deluxe edition unlocks all guns for you from the beginning, so you can pick whatever guns and mods you like instead of gradually improving your arsenal

I won't buy P3R because it doesn't have Girl MC and thus is an incomplete game at full price which had The Answer ready to go but withheld it to sell for 35 dollars later on; making the ALMOST complete Persona 3 worth 105 dollars.

Cutting MC and placing her there instead, like literally three or four scenes that could change for flair and easy fixes post. Also since now we have cutscenes with the main cast, in fact it's *less* Arcana dialogue for her, thanks to some of her links being the party. Cutting MC and putting her instead in The Answer scenes. Stellar Blade confuses me: is the oversexualisation of the main character actually ever referenced in-game, or does it solely exist for the player to look at? If that were the case, even Ilithid Dating Simulator, aka Baldur's Gate 3 contains more sex than this. Maybe it is meant ax aparody of the USA, the prudest country with the biggest port industry on the planet?

I still have my collection! It also included little cardboard standees of some of the main cast, a Making Of behind the scenes type of CD, and a little cloth map. The instruction manual even tripled as an art book and a player guide for the first hour or so of the game. I think this nostalgia trip calls for another Lunar 2 replay.

i think you're right on the money because i realized i had a problem when i was buying dlc for payday 2 or cosmetics in world of warcraft. i would get this high from buying things, i spent $200 on a spectral tiger cub PET in wow and i don't even like the pet game!!!! it's literally just worse pokemon. i've now tried to curb my problem by browsing rom sites for gba, ds, ps2, etc. and also browsing torrents for games. i don't get the same high as spending but downloading the games and running them for the first time helps. it's awful bc i don't even really play any of the games i download, which is the Same problem of buying pointless cosmetics and dlcs that you don't even engage with. idk we need to end capitalism

My ass buys collectors editions well after a game has come out because they take up shelf space and retail stores don't want to put them out. I think the disgaea 7 collectors edition was like $40 and that one came with plushies which alone made the purchase worth it.

​@@devforfun5618So I'll chime in as someone who beat it. Combat is Sekiro's parry system with sprinklings of combo based action. Very forgiving compared to its peers it took influence from. Primary weapon is a sword, an assortment of ranged weapons and grenades, lots of really creative mutated monstrosities to fight, the bosses in particular look so cool. Also just a great looking PS5 game, actually hits 60fps with good image quality in its "Balanced" preset. The general art design of its world really elevates it as well if that's your thing. The music is varied and well done in my opinion. It gets dragged down by some things. It borrows a lot from typical AAA game design tropes, a lot of "busywork" to make the game longer than it probably should be. The story also kind of sucks unfortunately. So if you like what I said about it and enjoy shamelessly sexy characters and exotic outfits to collect, give it a go. I wouldn't say drop £70/$70 though, definitely when it's on sale if anything about it intrigues you.

I know exactly what you're talking about and it literally was THE most powerful weapon in the game for the main character and it was just sitting in your inventory from the get go. I had the PC version so I wasn't even given the option not to have it. It also requires you play the game in a very specific way since it's only OP if you spam warp strikes over and over and over. Just overall made the game both easier and more boring to play.
