A Visit to Cary Towne Center (Feat. Belk) 

Sad all started with the downfall of Sears. I hope Sears and the malls make a comeback before I die in my lifetime

While this makes me sad (my mom worked here for a while at Hecht's aka Macy's aka closed anchor the 2nd), I appreciate that you captured this mall. I had my first coffee at Gloria Jean's (where Jet's now resides) with my family. While Ikea is popular, I still fear Cary Towne's corridor's will be torn down. It was a beautiful mall up until Sears left. That remaining piece of Macy's was an entrance to Hect's that Macy's closed off to prevent theft. About Ivey's.... If you know where that was, I'd love to see it- I only have personal memories from 93 and later!

Update: The mall is set to be demolished after the 2020 holiday shopping season.

This is one of my local malls. Cary is the West Palm Beach of NC and this is a dead mall. Depressing.

Apparently they're planning on totally revamping the mall, and I can't say i'm surprised. The mall just doesn't get the amount of visitors it used to. Many of the new stores don't last long, and many of the old stores have already closed their doors. There was a time where we would see the spaces occupy a new store every few months. Apparently they may eventually turn it into a eastern gateway type thing with all kinds of different types of things. It will be sad to see some of my more frequented stores close, but hopefully these plans may bring new life to what right now isn't getting the population.

Almost looks like an underground parking area inside with no cars in it. Ugly design for a mall these days.

In the early 90s I worked at Cobbler's Express which was at the entrance you came and left through. Those were busy times. I really liked the job. Us fellow mall stiffs, the employees of Glamour Shots, Gingiss Formal wear, Sears, Forever 21, and few other stores at the Un-Cool end of the mall, all formed this weird family full of drama and laughter. I do miss though times. Sad to see this, like most malls across the country go the way of the telegraph.

I worked there at Belk.But it was really busy then and full of shoppers and people enjoying the mall. No ways like this.

IKEA should revive what’s left of that mall

after the stranger things vid malls are going to be busy

They said they will demolish the whole building except Belk and Dilliard's, it will become a mixed-use development along with IKEA there.

I actually got to go into the old Sears today helping with the Salvation Army. Very damaged and sad. Hard to believe it used to be a department store, it has water damage, roof tiled missing, holes in the walls, and junk strewn everywhere. The loading docks are the only thing in good condition still.

so... Ikea pulled out of the deal so don’t be surprised if Cary Towne Center closes in a year or two.
