A Visual Journey Through the Dark Subconscious (A Zdzisław Beksiński Tribute)

Zdzislaw Beksinski still amazes me to this day and is easily my favorite artist. His unrivaled skill to be able to visualize and paint his darkest subconscious thoughts, nightmares, and visions is unlike anything this world has ever seen. I felt the need to share his amazing art combined with the incredible music of Bell Witch, which go perfectly together in my opinion.
Music:
Mirror Reaper by Bell Witch
"Zdzisław Beksiński; (24 February 1929 - 21 February 2005) was a Polish painter, photographer and sculptor, specializing in the field of dystopian surrealism. Beksiński made his paintings and drawings in what he called either a 'Baroque' or a 'Gothic' manner. His creations were made mainly in two periods. The first period of work is generally considered to contain expressionistic color, with a strong style of "utopian realism" and surreal architecture, like a doomsday scenario. The second period contained more abstract style, with the main features of formalism." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zdzis%C...
Be sure to check out and support Beksinski's Facebook page for more art and info on his life: / zdzislawbeksinski

It has been a little over a year since uploading this, and I would just like to express just how appreciative I am of everyone's support. I am so glad to see Beksinski's work has made such an impact on others as he has for me... His work has inspired me, as well as many others, to express our vision, no matter how dark or calamitous it may be. It is important, to me, and many others, that we remain aware of the dark side of our subconscious, as for it may provide clues to our lives and afterlives. Stay woke my friends! 🤘🏻

I still remember the day that they were reporting his death in news, i was 6 at the time and it was first time i saw his art. Like any other kid at this age i was terrified seeing those paintings, but at the same time they were fascinating, and this fascination lasts to this day. PS Monolith music from 2001 Space Odyssey works perfectly with Beksinski's art.

I wish there were horror games set in worlds like Beksinski's. So tired of seeing the same familiar abandoned school or factory or warehouse. There's nothing more scary or surreal than an unfamiliar and unknown place.

The dark side of the subconscious is so much more intriguing because it's so rarely portrayed correctly, as it is in the surrealist works of Beksiński, Gammell, and Seminov. It seems to represent the madness that lurks deep within us all that must be suppressed to comply with society. The morbid fascination with the macabre. Looking at these paintings is like seeing a train derail. It's horrifying but also fascinating and certainly something that will implant itself into the memory of the spectator. The hellscapes and dream logic displayed in Beksiński's work really feel as though we're glimpsing into hell just looking at them.

I can see through his work that Beksinskis memories of growing up in Poland during the Second World War influenced his art greatly, especially when his human forms are all images of starvation and deprivation..Poland during WW2 was certainly a hellscape for a young boy . His colors represent the fires, smoke and gloom of that era. To me, Beksinski's works are an attempt to exorcise the demons of that time in his life, to purge the terrors he must have witnessed and to come to grips with humanity's cruelty. Truly magnificent works here. Love the Death Metal score accompanying this...so appropriate.

@@dianablackman4528 The paintings don't hold a true meaning that Beksinski meant to put in. He has said so before. I do see the elements of decay and corruption in the paintings, but it's what makes them so beautiful in the first place. His paintings seem to be more of an expression of spiritual anguish, rather than the inevitable doom of the flesh. There's a strange sadness and mourning quality laced throughout his works. There's a compulsion to step into them and travel through. Explore the dark world he found within himself, all while avoiding the eerie gaze of the monolithic figures looming over you throughout.
